Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part One!

imageHanukkah oh Hanukkah, you’re early as what the hell now this year! Which means… it’s fun and games time here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery!

Tonight begins the festival of Hanukkah, wherein Jewish folks light the menorah, consume fried things, and celebrate for eight nights. And since the Jewish folks are known as The People of the Book, I figured, let’s celebrate reading, eh? I’ve been saving up items all year for the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital. Are you ready to rumble? I hope so!

These contests are super easy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Despite popular wisdom, Jewish folks don’t traditionally dance the hora on Hanukkah. Your mileage may vary. Slippery when wet. Bon Jovi was not harmed in the making of this giveaway. Hanukkah candles never fit in the menorahs, no matter what you do. A latke a day is probably not good for your cardiovascular health.

Ahoy! Contest the first!

imageOn the First Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A brand spanking new Sony!

From the fine people at Sony, I have here a PRS-650, better known as the new Sony Touch. It’s red. It’s very sexy. And it can be yours as part of the Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival.

Just leave a comment below, and tell me what book you’d buy or borrow first, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have lost my ever lovin’ mind.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

Happy Hanukkah!! Hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with love, laughter, and plenty of latkes 🙂  I know I’ll be knee deep in oil tonight, and assume you will be, too.

I’d be preordering Izzy, Izzy, Izzy!! and then I’d pick up the new Maya Banks No Place to Run in the interim.

    Thanks for another awesome contest!

  2. AndreaZ says:

So many books to choose from… I’d still probably buy one of my favorite Dick Francis mysteries for the e-reader (like To the Hilt).

I’m very glad Bon Jovi wasn’t harmed!

spamword = change51; it is quite possible I’ll change my mind 51 times before deciding on which e-book to get first

  3. Quenby says:

What a fantastic way to begin the celebration!

As for books on my wish list, I’ve heard such great things about Zoe Archer that I’m feeling the need to dig in ‘round them literary parts. 🙂

  4. Catherine says:

Great giveaway! I have such a large wishlist at the moment but if I had to choose I’d pick any one of Haruki Murakami’s books to be the first I’d buy simply because I have been meaning to buy and read them for quite a long while but still haven’t gotten round to it.

  5. Oh, now this is worth a comment. I would love a book since the English ones are not so easy to come by. You probably already know this, but just in case:  if you ship internationally using Express Mail, it is one price for as much as you can stuff in the envelope!

  6. Lana says:

Happy Hanukkah! I am celebrating is spirit as I like Chrismukkah (Thanks OC)

Anyways, in honour of the season, I would go for Lisa Kleypas Christmas Eve at Friday Harbour!

    Thanks for the contest!

  7. Bridget says:

The Camelot Caper – my favorite Elizabeth Peters book.

  8. Shannyn says:

This is a great giveaway – I would definitely get the new JD Robb and the Crusie re-issue because it’s one of the few of hers I haven’t yet read.

  9. angela says:

I would get Sacrifice by Dakota Banks, the second book in the Mortal Path series because the first was so very awesome and I’m dying to read the second one.

  10. Mandy says:

Oh! The first book I’d buy for the shiny new Sony would have to be Craken. I’ve been looking forward to that book for months now!

  11. Dana H says:

Jo Goodman’s Marry Me, or maybe Gini Koch’s Alien Tango, or Carla Kelly’s The Admiral’s Penniless Bride…there are way too many books that I want to read.

  12. Lindlee says:

As a result of Scandal being the next book club book, I’m totally on an Amanda Quick streak. So I’d probably get an Amanda Quick book.

  13. Oops, meant to say, books in English, especially romance novels, are not so easy to come by in Budapest, Hungary, where I am currently residing following the sudden loss of my husband here. And speaking of Hanukkah, Budapest has one of the most awesome synagogues on the planet. Huge and beautiful. Over 4,000 Jewish people were hidden in the nooks and crannies during the war.

  14. Elisha says:

Ooh, it’s so hard to choose! I think it would be Robin McKinley’s newest, Pegasus.

  15. K.C. says:

Wow it’s that time of year already? Happy Hanukkah!

I’d buy Falling Freestyle by Vivian Arend first. (The
except was steamy, like a sauna full blast steamy.)

    Thanks for the contest!

  16. GrowlyCub says:

I recently discovered Linnea Sinclair, so it would be the anthology with her and JoBev’s and Mary Jo’s stories in it for me on a shiny new Sony 650. 🙂

  17. Chris says:

Oooo…so many new books to choose from. I have a lot of old goodies I’d like to load to a new machine (rather than my current laptop 🙁 ). I usually re-read my comfort books during the holidays. But Robin McKinley is my #1 comfort author during the holidays so thus, her new PEGASUS would have to be on the top of my list. But I’ve also been procrastinating on reading the Stieg Larsson books (and they’re always checked out at the library) so those would be high on my reading list too.

  18. Manda says:

I would buy either Jennifer Cruisie’s Faking It or the Wallflower series from Lisa Kleypas. 🙂

  19. Kelly N. says:

I would love an e-reader!  My first book purchase would be for Lynsay Sands latest novel, Hungry For You!  Gotta love the vampires:)

  20. Kristi says:

I would be getting the Lady Most Likely! Or the new JB Robb anthology out today… OOOH!!

  21. Danny says:

I guess I’d buy Captured and Crowned by Janette Kenny, since I was thinking about buying it last night but haven’t done it yet. x)

  22. Mary Jo says:

    Happy Hannukah!
I’ll have to say Lynsay Sands “Hungry for You” since it has just come out and I was just reading about it before reading your post for this great contest. Also it centers around a vampire pretending to be a chef and so much of the holidays and my life right now center around Food food FOOD….lol

  23. Desiree says:

    Yay for contests.

I would absolutely read either Outlander by Diana Gabaldon or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo!

    🙂

    Happy Holidays!

  24. Kiersten says:

It would TOTALLY be Zoe Archer’s Warrior and Rebel followed very closely by STRANGER. I adored SCOUNDREL and can’t wait to read more.

This exact Sony eReader has been at the top of Christmas list for since it hit the stores and you did that great review of its promo party (I quickly updated my 6 mos. wish list from the Sony 600). Sadly, I’ve had to accept that it wasn’t going to happen this year cost wise. I’m refusing to succumb to the attractively priced Kindle on the grounds of not rewarding Amazon for limiting who I can buy/borrow/lend my books from/to – and I really want a Sony. Needless to say, it would be fantastic to win it (hint, hint, nudge, nudge)! Like Pregnesia fantastic. It’s even the right color!

Happy, happy Festival of Lights to you and your family!

spamword: figures 72 – figures you’d have what I want when I was born in ‘72

  25. Katherine says:

    Happy Hannukah, Sarah!
What a great contest. The first book I would buy is the next Cat/Red Reaper book by Jeaniene Frost. “This Side of the Grave”. I love this series and can’t wait for this next book.

  26. Maria says:

    Happy Hanukkah

Id pick J Cruise’s newest one. OR the whole darn series of Dr. Who.  Im sure theres a ton more. Im so behind on my reading.

specific79.. yeah theres no way I can be specific about 79 things.

  27. Snarfcat says:

I’d get Amanda Quick’s Scandal for the Sizzling book club!

  28. Christine says:

I would buy Jennifer Crusie’s latest, or else Agnes and the Hitman, which is my favorite. Plus, I would have to buy some sort of holiday-themed anthology, I think, just because the Sony is so nice and red and cozy. Hanukkah is seriously underrepresented in the holiday romance category, isn’t it? We’re trying to bring back celebrating “Yule” in our family this year. I ripped off the 8 nights thing from Hanukkah (only I think we’re only doing 6 nights), and the kids are getting one gift each per night starting on the solstice and going to the 26th.

needed67: well, it was more of a want, to be honest.

  29. jody says:

    Ooooh—RED!
The Iron Duke, without a doubt.  May have to just go ahead and buy it dead tree.

  30. Nicole says:

So many good books, its hard to choose which ONE would be first, I think I’ll go with The Bid by Jaquelyn Frank – I’ve been meaning to get it, but just haven’t placed the order.

  31. Sarah says:

It’s so shiny!!!  The first book I would buy is Mockingbirds by Daisy Whitney.  But the first romance would be…probably A Little Bit Wild by Victoria Dahl.

  32. RachieG says:

Hmm…the first book I’d put on that super hot Sony E-reader would be “Call Me Irresistible” by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Can’t wait for that January release! 🙂

  33. Beth says:

    Happy Hanukkah, bitches!!

If I were to win this great e-reader, my first purchase would be Christina Dodd’s Chains of Ice, followed quickly by the Navy Seals books I haven’t read yet from Lora Leigh’s sexy series! I need to complete these sexy series-es!  LOL!

  34. Mer says:

Wow! What a great giveaway!  I can’t wait until the end of the semester when I can finally read for fun again, and the top two on my list are “The Distant Hours” by Kate Morton and “Moonlight Mile” by Dennis Lehane.

  35. Krissy says:

What an amazing idea! Happy Holidays to all of you.

I would get the Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson books. I can reread those over and over again. Which I have. 🙂

  36. Teri C says:

    ohh…  my precious…..
One of those sony beauties would look great by my beside.
Happy Holidays all you wonderful bitches out there, and merry reading to all and to all a good read.

  37. Marina says:

Not to be nitpicky, but it’s a hanukiyah, not just any regular ol’ menorah =)

  38. Kaya H says:

The first book I would put up on here would be Pegasus from Robin McKinley…. Ohh she is wonderful.
    Seasons Greetings ladies.

  39. Jennifer says:

The first book I would buy would most likely be something by John Ringo since (if I were to win) this would be a gift for my 16 year old son in the hopes that it would halt the plague-like spread of paper books consuming his floor!

  40. KellyM says:

    Oooh!  Oooh!  Pick me!!!
I’d buy Amanda Quick’s Scandal if Madame Sony got to me before the December Book Club chat.  Or Ravished because I’ve never read that one either and everyone’s comments have convinced me that life is not complete without having read it.  🙂
