Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part One!

imageHanukkah oh Hanukkah, you’re early as what the hell now this year! Which means… it’s fun and games time here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery!

Tonight begins the festival of Hanukkah, wherein Jewish folks light the menorah, consume fried things, and celebrate for eight nights. And since the Jewish folks are known as The People of the Book, I figured, let’s celebrate reading, eh? I’ve been saving up items all year for the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital. Are you ready to rumble? I hope so!

These contests are super easy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Despite popular wisdom, Jewish folks don’t traditionally dance the hora on Hanukkah. Your mileage may vary. Slippery when wet. Bon Jovi was not harmed in the making of this giveaway. Hanukkah candles never fit in the menorahs, no matter what you do. A latke a day is probably not good for your cardiovascular health.

Ahoy! Contest the first!

imageOn the First Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A brand spanking new Sony!

From the fine people at Sony, I have here a PRS-650, better known as the new Sony Touch. It’s red. It’s very sexy. And it can be yours as part of the Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival.

Just leave a comment below, and tell me what book you’d buy or borrow first, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have lost my ever lovin’ mind.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

  1. Michael says:

    Ooh, pretty!

I’d put Jane Slayre on there.  I’ve read Jane Eyre so many times.  It’s one of my favorites—if not even my VERY favorite—and I’m really curious about this supernatural-ized version. :o)

  2. Kristie says:

I would get The Duke and I by Julia Quinn.  A great book by a great author!

  3. CMD says:

    Happy Hanukkah!

Since I’m a poor little graduate student with a penchant for reading, a tiny flat (which means no room to to store a gazillion physical books), and a meagre stipend on which to survive (hello cereal as a major source of sustenance), buying books is a special treat, and those bulky hardcovers from the library are my best friends. An eReader that can buy & borrow ebooks would be legend—what a fantastic giveaway! As for what I’d buy/borrow first… I’m a huge Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb fan (among other authors), but all the discussion about Jennifer Crusie’s “Trust Me on This” (and her other books) has made that jump to the top of my epic TBR list.

  4. Vanessa says:

Actually – Hornet’s Nest.  Ha!  I started to watch it on Netflix the other day, but decided I wanted to read the series first.

  5. Tavi says:

Scandal, by Amanda Quick, on the hopes that I could finally participate in the book club!  And then I’m with Milena—all the Georgette Heyer romances, so I could have a backup when my old paperbacks finally crumble into dust.  The list goes on. (and on. and on…)

  6. Megs says:

I really want to read The Kiss Test right now, so I’d probably buy that first.  Although, I’m also on a Sherlock Holmes kick.  So maybe some of that.  It would sure be easier than lugging around the gigantic Complete Works.

  7. Tara says:

Ooh pretty Sony Touch. I would download Dennis Lehane’s Moonlight Mile first. I can’t wait to catch up with Patrick and Angie again! Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  8. TheKitten says:

I’d get Julia Quinn’s Second Epilogues. I just read the whole Bridgerton series in less than a week and now i’m sleep-deprived and anxious to get my hands into some more Bridgerton… and then… all the rest of the books I havent’ read … As many as I could get into that cute little reader.

  9. Diane V says:

I’d probably buy “Naked in Death” by JD Robb and then all the other “In Death” books.

Thanks for the opportunity.  Happy Hanukkah!

  10. elianara says:

The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon

The Deed combines Sheepfarmer’s Daughter, Divided Allegiance, and Oath of Gold

One of my favorite fantasy series of all time.

  11. Carly says:

Pick one book? I thought you said this was going to be easy!! well, since I’m deep in the midst of my senior year at University, how about something light?

Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer

  12. Karenmc says:

And the Sony Reader is red!

I’m so ready for Carla Kelly’s next release.

  13. Anika says:

Since the next Troubleshooter book by Suzanne Brockmann isn’t out till March, I’ll go with the next book on my wishlist: Changeless (Book 2 of the Parasol Protectorate) by Gail Carriger. I loved the first one.

  14. Carin says:

I’d put Shannon Stacey’s novella Holiday Sparks on my reader if I won.  I want to read that one!

  15. SD says:

The new bio of Cleopatra that I read about in Sunday’s book section.  I recycled the paper before thinking to get the author’s name, but it should be fairly easy to find.  I hope.

  16. P. Awful says:

oo oo oo.  I would so totally love to have this to read on the train in the mornings!!  Now, while I’m crazy over romance novels and am tempted by the most rhecent JR Ward or Jayne Krentz, I would instead get The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker.  Which, incidentally, would also be useful knowledge for when riding the train….

    picture93: I’m picturing myself reading 🙂

  17. ks says:

Unfortunately, I’d probably have to buy a textbook first.  But if I had the time and the money to just read whatever I want, I don’t even know what I’d want first.  There’s just so much on my reading wishlist that I don’t know where to start.

  18. Emma says:

The first book I would get would be a ‘A Conspiracy of Kings’  by Megan Whalen Turner.  I know its not a romance novel, but I LOVE that series and I haven’t read the last installment yet!

  19. Kristi says:

My list of books to read is kind of long, and getting longer as some of my favorite authors are e-pubbing their backlists too. One new book that I’d like to read is Angie Fox’s The Last of the Demon Slayers that she just released as an e-book after her publisher debaucle. That series is a lot of fun, it will be sad to see it end.

  20. Hannah says:

I would choose The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. It was just released digitally today (at least in the Kindle store).

@ SD are you thinking of Stacy Schiff? I have a copy of the new bio of Cleopatra and I think it will be very good reading. I really enjoyed her bio of Vera Nabokova.

  21. Chantal Haber says:

Ohhhh shiny pretty things are my favourite gifts! Let’s see, the first book I would get for that would probably be the entire Gail Carriger Parasol Protectorate series. I have them in paper book form but they’re so good I need to carry them with me everywhere! At least one lives in my purse at all times. With the e-Reader they could ALL live in my purse!

  22. Andi says:

I would get the Amanda Quick book, Scandal so I could participate in the next book club chat!

  23. Sascha says:

The complete Harry Potter collection. Happy Hanukkah to everyone!

  24. ReganB says:

That’s easy:  Amanda Quick’s Scandal!  I’ll pick it up in hard copy if I can’t get it on a digital reader (hint hint), but if I do win this, it will be my first ebook!

  25. Lisa says:

Thank you for the contest! I would get the 3rd and 4th Sirantha Jax novels by Ann Aguirre because my library does not have them.
    Happy Hanukkah!

  26. Jaime says:

    The Zoe Archer series!

  27. Kathy Ivan says:

I’d love a new Sony Touch.  I’ve been looking forward to lots of books but want to read Insatiable by Morgan Hawke, releasing today from Aphrodesia (Kensington).

  28. Erin says:

The first book I would buy is ‘scandal’, so I can join in this next round of the book club!

  29. Julie B. says:

It’s so hard to pick just one book, but I’d probably go with “The Thief” by Megan Whalen Turner.  Of course, then I’d have to immediately get the rest of this fabulous series….

  30. amber says:

I’d have to go with Grave Secret, the latest in the Harper Connelly Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. I’ve been putting off buying it for long enough.

  31. LEW says:

    Fantastico!

I’m reading “Band of Brothers” right now (LOVING IT), so I’d buy some smut first off to balance out the WWII history.  I’d probably go peruse the Bitchery’s book review section until I saw something that looked good!

  32. CindyK says:

Patricia Briggs re-release of Wolfsbane, which will prompt me to re-read all her other books.

David Weber’s latest in the Honor Harrington series, which will prompt me to re-read all of the series and shorts that he’s put out over the years.

Add a few romances (okay a lot) and I really don’t have time to work…But I have to so I can buy the books.  Life is a vicious circle.

  33. Danielle (no, not that one, the other one) says:

Happy Hanukkah, Sarah, and thanks for this contest.

It’s nice to see several commenters saying they’d download something from the library – yay for loanable ebooks! I’d try out one of the manga titles my library just added to our ebook collection, probably Dramacon. Recommended if you like YA romance – it’s a sweet, funny little story.

  34. Michelle in Texas says:

Ooooh! Pretty! I would get the Pink Carnation series, or the Outlander series, or the Mary Russell series…

    Happy Hanukkah!

    spamword-how 53. How can I get 53 ebooks?

  35. Kelly says:

I would buy Charlie All Night or Your Scandalous Ways or Nightcap.  Or something holiday-themed.  Or, if I got a free Sony, then I would treat myself to all of those books in celebration!

  36. Alyssa says:

    I love Smart Bitch Giveaways!!!

I would buy No Place to Run by Maya Banks.  It’s the next book on my tbr list!

    Thanks!

    ~Alyssa

  37. Ashley says:

_Carpe Diem_ by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, I’ve just started their Liadon Universe and I’m caught up in it.  Probably a few others in the series too.  Then on down the wishlist. . .

    Thanks for the giveaways!

  38. Oh, I want one of these! Thanks for the giveaway. 🙂

I’d buy so many.. looking forward to reading Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews. Already bought the ebook but I’m on my laptop so much with writing, I haven’t read it yet. So first up, I’d transfer that one. Then I’d buy The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. Have heard good things about it.

  39. Oh! PICK ME!

The first book I would buy is Most Eagerly Yours followed probably by Most Outrageously Yours.  I like historicals and spies!

  40. Happy Hanukkah, Sarah. I’d fill in my JD Robb gaps—I’m missing some of the anthologies. No time now to look up specific titles; have to polish the menorah!
