Hanukkah oh Hanukkah, you’re early as what the hell now this year! Which means… it’s fun and games time here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery!
Tonight begins the festival of Hanukkah, wherein Jewish folks light the menorah, consume fried things, and celebrate for eight nights. And since the Jewish folks are known as The People of the Book, I figured, let’s celebrate reading, eh? I’ve been saving up items all year for the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital. Are you ready to rumble? I hope so!
These contests are super easy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Despite popular wisdom, Jewish folks don’t traditionally dance the hora on Hanukkah. Your mileage may vary. Slippery when wet. Bon Jovi was not harmed in the making of this giveaway. Hanukkah candles never fit in the menorahs, no matter what you do. A latke a day is probably not good for your cardiovascular health.
Ahoy! Contest the first!
On the First Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A brand spanking new Sony!
From the fine people at Sony, I have here a PRS-650, better known as the new Sony Touch. It’s red. It’s very sexy. And it can be yours as part of the Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival.
Just leave a comment below, and tell me what book you’d buy or borrow first, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have lost my ever lovin’ mind.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

The first thing I would load on this scarlet reader would be the complete Vorkosigan saga from the wonderful cd included with Bujold’s latest, Cryoburn. And thank you, thank you, Ms. Sarah for the opportunity to win some … junk.
My beloved Sony PRS-505 seems to be in self-destruct mode so I would dearly love to replace it with the new model. My tired 505 suddenly won’t let me load more than 9 books, and that makes me feel very itchy!
If I won, the first book I would add to the new reader is the Winter Wishes anthology coming out from Carina Press on 12/7, because I love me some holiday romances and holiday + paranormal = win.
Georgette Heyer’s The Grand Sophy, my introduction to Regencies. The beginning of a love affair which will never end.
I can’t decide between River Marked by Patricia Briggs, The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen, and Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning. I’d take whichever one I could get my hands on first… Oh shoot, I forgot about Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh. Talented authors really make things difficult at times. =sigh=
Happy Hanukkah, Smart Bitches!
Wish book: the new Laura Kinsale, which doesn’t exist yet…
Actual book: The Hunger Games, because I end up giving away every copy I buy.
Memory book: Archangel by Sharon Shinn.
Aww, I could go on forever ….
I’d get the new Maya Banks that is coming out next week, ” No Place to Run”.
Yay! PICK ME, PLEASE!!!! You are the most awesome of awesome!!! I would actually pick something for my son first-yep, as much as I love to read (I earned a degree in English lit because I like to read) I would sacrifice my first choice for my son. I’d get him the rest of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books because he loved the first one,and we had so much fun reading it together. Plus, since he is a computer kid, he’d so get a kick out of reading with me on the Sony.
Thank you!
I would borrow out the second Jasper Fforde novel in the “Thursday Next” series – turns out my library keeps running out of physical copies but not digital ones!
First book is a tough one, especially since I just bought myself an early Christmas present in the form of three books! I’d have to wait til February though, and get Elizabeth Hoyt’s Notorious Pleasures!
I would have to go with the January joy list that I made and get A Hard Day’s Knight by Simon R Green and Mercy Blade by Faith Hunter… the recession keeps me to the list whether eBook or not! 🙂
will39 – it takes will power to keep to this dang list!
SIDE JOBS by Jim Butcher! Collection of short stories that’s checked out EVERYWHERE, and I can’t GET my hands on a paper copy, even though my local library is literally nine stories and an entire city block. They don’t have a SINGLE COPY. ITS VERY FRUSTRATING.
Son63: I would sell my first 63 first-born sons to win this giveaway.
The first book I’d put on there? Now that’s a hard question, because there are so many books that would eventually go on, but the first would probably be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I was dying to go see the movie but then was like, “No, wait! I can’t do that! I haven’t read the book yet!”
Hey, what a cool contest! Thanks, Sarah!
Ummm… Wow, I have no idea what I’d buy first! Maybe Songs of Love and Death. I first heard of it when you offered it here as a giveaway, and the copy I looked at in a bookstore made me even more intrigued.
I would download the new Mark Twain autobiography… been waiting awhile for this one!!!
My first choice would be a Julie Garwood historical. I’m not sure if they available in the e-world yet. I’d have to find out. Those are my comfort reads! Thanks so much for this opportunity.
ooohh, aahh and it’s even red 😉
I would totally go find an awsome book only published as an e-book and read that first thing
Songs of Love and Death anthology as well as The Girl Who series -I’ve heard nothing but good things and have been itching to get my hands on them!
What a boss prize! geez I dunno, it’s like trying to decide which movie I would buy for my itouch. ok the book I want with me at all times, at the earliest opportunity, is probably Kresley Cole’s dark desires after dusk
Well, the first book that I would load into my new red ebook would have to be my fav “A Knight in Shinning Armor” by Jude Deveraux.
What a lovely thing to do Sarah!
Hugs,
Mare
oh man! i would get karen moning’s fever series. i have kept myself from reading them but i don’t know that i can hold outtttttt
which book? wow..that’s a tough one, but I’ve been putting off reading for a little bit in favor of crafting and video games.
So I think the first book I’d borrow or buy would be Suzanne Brockmann’s last Troubleshooters book because I still haven’t read book 15! I think it came out over a year ago. I feel like I need to turn in my SB fangirl card.
I would buy The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, because I will overcome my nervousness of the second book because of the creepy advocate, even though my mother assures me it works out. The nervousness will disappear if I have a shiny new toy to read it on.
If I can only pick one book, it would have to be “Lord of Scoundrels” by Loretta Chase. I love the kiss against the lamp post… le sigh.
I would buy something from Shelly Laurenston, Big Bad Beast is coming out in May and her books crack me up.
First book:
The Book Whisperer
I’ve been meaning to buy it for ages, and this would be the perfect opportunity.
It’s about how to push the cracky goodness of books on the young and unsuspecting.
I’d buy Last Night’s Scandal by Loretta Chase, since I’ve had that on my queue since y’alls review.
the first name that popped into my head was Pygmalion because every once in a while u need to go back to the classics and that too one which covers an idea so often depicted in romance novels!
Happy Hanukkah!! I want to read “Trash Course” by Penny Drake.
I would buy my favorite book that I don’t own: The Solace of Leaving Early.
I love contests, freebies, and this site!
I’ve been waiting to get my hands on a copy of The Help, by Kathryn Stockett. My grandmother has been recommending this book to me for about a year, so I figure it’s about time I pick it up 🙂
First book would have to be Amanda Quick’s ‘Scandal’, of course, 🙂 Haven’t read any Amanda Quick yet, so I’m looking forward to the next Book Club Chat, 😀
Happy Hanukkah! Is it bad form to be thinking about Sonys while lighting the candles? Man it is freakin early this year, I just put the turkey roaster away…sigh.
So I’m torn between Scandal, the new(ish) Loretta Chase, and the Twain autobio.
Thanks for the contest!!! Do you squirrel away gifts for your family too? My favorite hiding spot is behind the sheets in the linen closet, since no one but me EVER changes the linens.
Geez these are some generous bitches! I was gonna comment if it was a contest to win a PAPERBACK BOOK.
So, I’d buy The Devil Wears Plaid and The Night Watch.
Have to download Heyer”s Arabella, since it’s my adorable grandaughter’s name.
I would download or borrow Zero History by William Gibson.
I can’t have a reading device without the complete novels of Jane Austen, so that would be the first 🙂
But the first I would buy would probably be Deborah Crombie’s Necessary as Blood.
No doubt, I’d buy all four of Zoe Archer’s Blades of the Rose series. I might even have enough time to read them next term! Then I’d buy Jennifer Crusie’s entire backlist. I seriously love me some Jenny Crusie!
spamword: thus37. Thus would I begin my collection of 37 e-books!
A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter, one of my favorite childhood books
