Hanukkah oh Hanukkah, you’re early as what the hell now this year! Which means… it’s fun and games time here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery!
Tonight begins the festival of Hanukkah, wherein Jewish folks light the menorah, consume fried things, and celebrate for eight nights. And since the Jewish folks are known as The People of the Book, I figured, let’s celebrate reading, eh? I’ve been saving up items all year for the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital. Are you ready to rumble? I hope so!
These contests are super easy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.
Standard disclaimers: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Despite popular wisdom, Jewish folks don’t traditionally dance the hora on Hanukkah. Your mileage may vary. Slippery when wet. Bon Jovi was not harmed in the making of this giveaway. Hanukkah candles never fit in the menorahs, no matter what you do. A latke a day is probably not good for your cardiovascular health.
Ahoy! Contest the first!
On the First Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A brand spanking new Sony!
From the fine people at Sony, I have here a PRS-650, better known as the new Sony Touch. It’s red. It’s very sexy. And it can be yours as part of the Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival.
Just leave a comment below, and tell me what book you’d buy or borrow first, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have lost my ever lovin’ mind.
Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

The Iron Duke
Probably the Hunger Games trilogy. So many books, so little time (and shelf space).
I adore Laurie R. King’s Holmes-Russell series, and she’s got a new one out I haven’t read yet!
What a shiny giveaway. The first book I would download would be married with zombies. I took the quiz the other day to find out if my relationship would survive the Zombie hordes. Unfortunately it won’t, but an E-reader would:)
I’d get the “Girl Who” series, as it has been on my “I want to read it list” for a while now. Got great reviews from friends who read it.
Great giveaway! I’d get Call Me Mrs. Miracle.
I’ve been just finished the first book in Moning’s Fever Series so the first book I will buy is the second in the series.
I’m currently reading Marry Me by Jo Goodman. Love, love it so far. That will be the first book on it. I already own a Kindle (love, love it). I would love to give it as a gift for someone.
I would probably buy the first 4 books of Karen Marie Moning’s Fever Series so I could be ready for Shadowfever!!! Sexy reader – sexy stories!!!
Wow, it looks beatiful!
I’ve never read a book in digital format, but with this pretty reader I’d be all over this newfangled e-books business!
My first pick’d have to be “Scandal” by Amanda Quick – I hadn’t heard of it before, but it sounded really tempting in yesterday’s description.
Happy Hanukkah!
I would buy one of Linda Howard’s or Julie Garwood’s so I can
get more room for other must keep books.
I also would pick Scandal by Amanda Quick—haven’t read her in years and she was one of the first authors I read in the romance genre.
Awesome way to celebrate!
If I won, the first book I’d get is Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan and then I’d give it to my teenage daughter.
Happy Hanukkah!
The first book I would buy is Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
You mean I have to pick just 1 book? Ok, it’d be Zoe Archer’s Warrior. I love the sound of this series – adventure, romance, history, yay!
Happy Hanukkah SB Sarah! I’m super glad that Jon Bon Jovi will not be harmed in this contest…whew. Thanks for all you do!
I’d finally check out my library’s e-Book collection, which is a good thing, b/c they’ve gotten rid of the mass-market paperbacks collection!
Happy Hanukkah to all!
Decisions, decisions…just one…this is like potato chips! You can’t eat just one!
I just glommed on to Joanna Ross’ High Risk Novels, so I do believe I’d get the second one in series: Crossfire.
No
Yes
Yes. I am committed. That is my final answer
No Place to Run by Maya Banks…waiting anxiously for it to release next week!
My first book would be Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs. I don’t like hardcover so I was going to wait for paperback to get it. But digital works just as well 🙂
I’ll buy Sarah Mayberry’s entire backlist. I want them all in e-book format! Thanks, you are the best!
Sarah Maclean’s Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord! I read the first book in this series and loved it … reading the second on a Sony Touch would be icing on the cake. 🙂
Gone with the Wind – isn’t that one of the original romances? Definitely would be on the list!
Happy Hannukah!
The first book would definitely be Julie Garwood’s Ransom.
Awesome giveaway!! I would buy City of Veils by Zoe Ferraris….her first book was great…Thanks
Hmm…probably would finish off Jane Feather’s Cavenish Square trilogy.
Ooo, presents! Fun 🙂
I’d buy River Marked by Patty Briggs 🙂
I would buy Dangerous Liaisons by Choderlos del Laclos. Happy Hanukkah!
Wonderful contest!
Hard to choose just the first one! I decided on Death Notice by Todd Ritter
Hmmm I’d probably buy a zombie anthology. I don’t know, just in that kind of mood. Either that or Something Wonderful, which I’ve never read but have heard wonderful things about as of late – perfect end of finals reading from the sounds of it!
Kathryn Caskie’s “A Duke’s Night of Sin”.
Ooh! I’d either get the Mark Twain autobiography or the A Song of Ice and Fire series to re-read before the tv series starts.
I’m not entirely certain which book I’d get first, but I can tell you it would be one of those really big tomes, like Outlander or Atlas Shrugged… something I would never read before because the book was too huge for me to hold in my hand! LOL
I would love to get the Hunger Games trilogy. I absolutely love that story and could read it over and over. My other option would be Last Night’s Scandal, because I, like much of the Bicthery, love Loretta Chase.
I’d buy Scandal so I could finally get my shit together and join in the book club fun.
HAPPY HANUKKAH to you, Sarah and to any other tribe members here.
Cleopatra – Stacy Schiff – she’s brilliant, sexy, definitely focused, and ok, maybe an asp makes her less than a role model, but still, what a trip!
I would probably get Angel’s Pawn by Nalini Singh. It would motivate me to get and read some of the ebook-only stories by authors I love!
My younger brother has been reading one of the books in The Hunger Games trilogy (I forget which, but it’s probably the first) for his English class. He’s really enjoying it and he has good taste in books, so I think that’d be the first thing I would borrow/buy. (:
I think I would buy the new Lynsay Sands, Hungry For You. I can’t get enough of those Argeneaus.
Happy Hanukkah! The first book I’d buy would be Jennifer Crusie’s Bet Me. I have it in hard cover and paperback. Might as well complete the trifecta. Love that book too much!
