Merry Christmas Kindling!

Book Cover Merry Christmas! Want a Kindle?

Since I did a straight week-plus of giveaways for Hanukkah, I figured I should have a present for you for Christmas. How about a chance to win a generation 3 Kindle? All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me your favorite gift received or given this year, and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday 26 December. Contest runs until 4am 26 December 2010 EST.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway, and I don’t secretly belong to Amazon, though if I did, I would SO be prime-able. I’d be Optimus Prime-able. Socks are recommended. If you keep making that face your face will freeze like that. I have no desire for figgy pudding, thank you.

Good luck, happy reading, and merry, merry Christmas to those celebrating today!

This is a tough one because I’ve made some pretty cool presents for people this year but I think the one I’m most excited about giving is the one purchased on a whim—a wooden rail and train set for my son.  His grandparents gave him an early gift and before he opened it, he must’ve asked me 8 times if it was a choo-choo train.  Um, no, but…now it will be.  I think he’ll be pretty stinking excited.

  2. Yodamom says:

My best gift- a Hat my daughter made for me, knitted black with eyes. It’s so cute !

  3. Debbie says:

I got the entire series on West Wing, and I’ve spent an entire day so far watching it—it is marvelous; but I’d love a kindle 3!

  4. SheaLuna says:

I bought a silk scarf from Ireland for one of my besties.  Green background with big pink flowers.  Very 60s flower power and SOOO my friend’s style.  It just screamed “pick me!” I had to get it for her.  She loved it!

  5. StacieH4 says:

My favorite gift I gave this year was a Nintendo DSi XL to my 10 yr old son.  He was not expecting it at all and he is so happy.  I actually gave it to him for his birthday which was Dec 22.
The best thing I got this year, as far as material things go, was a new digital camera and some wonderful handmade ornaments that my kids made in school.  I love my tree all covered with things they made each year—some from when I was in elementary school have survived too.

  6. LisaA says:

Make up kits for my 14 year old daughter. Now that we allow her to wear a “natural” amount of make up (not the trashy mini-whore look) she will be thrilled to experiment at home!!

  7. Heather F. says:

The favorite gift I gave this year was a box for some soliders in Iraq. I sent a box filled with cards, summer sausages and candy canes to make their time away from home a little less burdensome. My favorite gift I recieved is from my siblings (3). I moved back in with my parents because of their disablities and the sucky economy and my siblings can’t be around to help with our parents so for christmas they all chipped in on a gift card for $100 to a bookstore since they know I love books so much. They said they did it to say thanks for doing what they are unable to do and for doing it without complaint. Sometimes siblings are so sweet!

  8. Carrie says:

My favorite gift received was the huge box of Lush bath bombs my husband gave me. He was so excited that he gave it to me as soon as it came. My favorite gift I’m giving is actually the kids Santa gift. They are all getting new bikes and I can’t wait to see their faces!

  9. Shannon says:

I’m giving my husband the sequel to the book he’s reading.  He doesn’t know it’s out yet!

  10. My favorite gift given was the book Flaherty’s Crossing, I sent autographed copies to each of my sisters.  It will be fun to have all read the same book.
Merry Christmas to all and I’d love to win a Kindle!

  11. DrgnsLdy28 says:

A Children’s pottery wheel, which I gave my nieces.  They like video games, but they rather constructive toys in which they are actually doing and creating something.

  12. job says:

I knitted hats.  I knitted hats for EVERYBODY, even the folks who live in California where it never gets cold.

The hats are pretty much universally too big.  Except for the ones that are too small.  There is an added-value lopsidedness factor to most of them.
These hats scream, ‘Handmade by a beginnner.’  They are the equivalent of Refrigerator Art, except portable.

    Next year . . . socks.

  13. Alex says:

I bought my sister an iPod Touch generation four this year. It’s funny watching her pore over them on the Internet and wishing she could go out and buy one

  14. Christine says:

I’m giving my mom a really great sweater. I’m just not sure about the color… I think my husband will like his RC helicopter, too! The kids are getting some really cool lego sets in a little while. I gave three people Jennifer Cruisie novels… Oh, and I’ve spent hours putting new music on my mom’s iPod, since she hasn’t learned how to create playlists or make them go from the computer to the device in the two years that she’s had it… I think a little Christmas tutorial might be in order…

  15. Hottie McNaughty says:

I got my husband an awesome art print of Tink glaring at Jessica Rabbit’s boobs.

  16. zvi says:

I got my mom one of those portable dumpster things. She really wants to do a major cleaning of the can house, and she doesn’t want stuff.

  17. bungluna says:

My husband got me the George Foreman grill with dishwasher friendly plates and 3 temp. setting.  I love it!

  18. Mary says:

My favorite gift this year (so far) was both wonderful and bittersweet. My oldest son was able to come home for a brief visit.

  19. Favorite gift given? My DD’s dream wedding.

  20. Jennifer Logan says:

I participate in a Secret Santa on Lora Leigh’s message board and I love shopping for it and then waiting for my box to come. This year I was able to get my giftee a lot of little things that I hoped she would love, some scented candles, a throw blanket, the cutest salt and pepper shakers, a picture frame , some warm gloves and chocolate. I was so nervous and then when she posted that she loved it, it just made me smile. It always feels so great to brighten someones Christmas.

    Happy Holidays!!
    Jenn

  21. Can I claim a gift of which I have significant suspicions? I *think* someone got me a copy of Tiny Book of Tiny Stories from HitRecord.org but I’m not *supposed* to know yet….But *if* I’m right, I’m gonna lurve it. 😀

  22. stacy bula says:

my parents got me a Wii for my birthday

  23. Mo says:

I made homemade infused booze (ginger-lemon and spiced apple brandy) for friends this year and sent it out with the holiday candy my partner and I always make.  I’m really proud of it and have heard good feedback so far.

The only downside is that I realized, at the last minute, that it is illegal to send alcohol through the mail.  I don’t know why I didn’t immediately think of that!  So I broke the law several times over this holiday season, but at least my friends can have their delicious booze.

  24. Caitlin says:

My cousin started teaching my how to quilt this year, so my first project was a wall hanging to give to my mom for Christmas.  I can’t wait until she opens it tomorrow morning!  Hope everyone has a Merry Chirstmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

  25. Bea says:

My favorite gift that I gave was a 3D soap train that I made for a friend’s son. I still can’t believe how awesome it turned out.

So far, the best I’ve received this year is a handmade card from the kids and parents in my preschool class that also has a quote from each child about what they like about school. Awesome, absolutely awesome.

  26. Meg P says:

I can’t wait for my 4-year-old niece to open the PINK lego set I found for her.  PINK legos!!!

  27. Melissandre says:

I haven’t really opened any of my own gifts this year, but it was amusing to see my 2-year-old niece go hauling around the little Minnie Mouse cup I bought on a whim to go with her matching sweatshirt.

  28. LSUReader says:

Favorite gift given is a “Date Night” to my son & daughter-in-law—Dining and movie certificates and a promise for babysitting their toddler.  Merry Christmas.

  29. My husband and I aren’t going to be together on Christmas day so I decided to surprise him early with a house decorated from top to bottom and a huge pile of presents, all for him—even though we haven’t exchanged gifts for years.

The look of surprise on his face was priceless. And it was the best present I could give myself.

  30. Ms. M says:

The best gift I’m giving will be a genealogy book that documents our family history from about 1620 to 1900. It’s for my cousin, who loves that stuff- but didn’t inherit the family copy. 🙂

  31. Regina says:

My best gift was getting Maximus Kiddenus from the pound.  Jessica Kitty does not like him yet, but she will come around.

  32. Apey says:

This year I tried to tailor all of my friend-gifts towards everyone’s various creative outlets to sort of guarantee they’d get use out of them. So the knitter got a box full of yarn, the film student got a film journal, the cook got “The Food Lover’s Companion”, etc.

  33. Alaina says:

gave my husband a PS3. the look on his face when he opened it made it my favorite.

  34. Best gift gotten: enough of a raise and a bonus at work that I was able to get myself a serious guitar. I got me a Taylor 210 and I am enjoying playing it immensely! Also, this raise and bonus means my partner’s best gift gotten is being able to afford having her first album professionally mastered. 😀

Best gift given so far: Won’t actually be given till my housemate gets home from visiting his folks for the holidays, but we’re hoping he’ll dig the book full of Hammer movie art we’ll be giving him!

  35. Poppy says:

A wooden castle with a large dragon marionette for my nephew. He loves puppets, but has never had a big one before.

  36. sara says:

My brother just announced that he’s making me an aunt next summer. So I guess technically that’s my favorite gift of 2011, but OMG BABIES EVERYWHERE!!!

  37. Ellowyne says:

My favorite gift received this year was a pair of pewter brontosauri (brontosauruses?) earrings, but my favorite gift given was a complete translation of Akon’s Sexy Bitch into proper English.

  38. Jen H says:

Best gift received: my Mom gave me a gorgeous doll for my collection that I just couldn’t bring myself to pay full price for, plus some $$$ to help me pay for next semester!

Best given: Keith Urban’s new cd to my Mom, his #1 fan:) She went in for double-knee replacement surgery yesterday (her best gift this year, after the recovery period is done), so Keith will be keeping her company during PT:) Big props to Mr. Urban & his label for releasing the new stuff around Christmas pretty much every year—-makes one part of my shopping list a no-brainer!

(oh yeah, we did the gifts on the 22nd in preparation for Mom’s hospital stay, so I’m pretty sure there’s no more coming, but a full & speedy recovery for her would shoot to the top of both of our lists pdq!)

  39. Rachel R says:

I’m giving my younger cousin the Criss Angel magic kit because he’s totally into magic. (and guyliner?)

  40. Janet S says:

My husband is making a special dinner tonight – being helped by our 4 year old. Best Christmas ever.
