Merry Christmas! Want a Kindle?
Since I did a straight week-plus of giveaways for Hanukkah, I figured I should have a present for you for Christmas. How about a chance to win a generation 3 Kindle? All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me your favorite gift received or given this year, and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday 26 December. Contest runs until 4am 26 December 2010 EST.
Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway, and I don’t secretly belong to Amazon, though if I did, I would SO be prime-able. I’d be Optimus Prime-able. Socks are recommended. If you keep making that face your face will freeze like that. I have no desire for figgy pudding, thank you.
Good luck, happy reading, and merry, merry Christmas to those celebrating today!

I think the best Christmas gift I have received is moving into a brand new apartment (on Xmas Eve!) with my wonderful boyfriend. I won’t be able to decorate it in time for Christmas this year, but I do plan on making at least a couple of batches of cookies and snuggling in front of the fireplace.
Home for the holidays indeed!
This year I’m pleased that my sister not only asked me to make her a hat but I was able to make a nice one exactly as she wanted and UPS delivered that box earlier this week.
The best present I ever got was last year when my husband bought me a kitchenaid pro stand mixer – I’d wanted one for years and we finally had enough money to buy one as a present. I love it and think about what a great present it was every time I use it, which is a lot.
Wait! I got the initials wrong…sigh. People keep talking to me while I try to have a bit of bloggy fun this morning. Aren’t there gingerbread houses that need to be made somewhere? Sheesh.
What I ought to have said, of course, was
My dad’s getting a book about the making of The Empire Strikes Back, which I think he’ll really like. He had a stroke back in October, and he’s been off work since then (luckily, the only major problem is speech, and he’s getting therapy 3x a week now). He’s really happy that me and my sister are off work/home from school, because he has to spend his days alone since Mom and I have to go to work and/or school every day. The three of us went to see Tangled yesterday, and had a good time.
I got my two friends some fantasy books that I know they’ve never read: Green Rider by Kristen Britain for one friend, and His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik for another. They’re both fantasy fans like me, and it makes me really happy to pass along really good books!
I think more than anything I love hearing about the generosity that this time of year brings out. At work we had several families among our clients adopted (one by our own office, several others by more well-meaning groups), and it’s really so great to hear how we helped them have a good holiday. The Bloggess inadvertently hosted a Christmas donations-matching fest: people asked for help who needed it, and were matched up with someone who could give something to help them. Things like this make my heart warm and fuzzy.
I got $300 worth of spa coupons from the attorney I work for! I forsee lots of spa pedicures in my future. Best gift given: I got an autographed copy of “Best Recipes for Health” for my sister-in-law(you can check out Martha Rose Shulman’s recipes at the New York Times, they’re delicious and good for you)
Would love to win a kindle. Hope all have a wonderful holiday.
Favorite gift given is the 3 month old kitten we adopted for my 9 year-old daughter. We have two 15 year old cats, but they just can’t match my daughter’s energy. The new kitten can and does. They spend hours playing with each other.
My husband has been unemployed going on 14 months now so the sheer happiness a baby animal ads to a house has been invaluable to all of us. Even my husband, who has proclaimed himself “not a cat lover” for 15 years is just a little in love with Winnie the kitten.
I bought my husband a gift certificate to our favorite fancy restaurant and wrapped it up as “from” the dog and cat. Merry Christmas to both of us!
A Kindle! That would be amazing! My fav gift to myself was buying some sessions with a personal trainer to help keep me on track and start anew after the holiday glut.
Happy holidays to you!
I got my nephews a Death Star Planetarium. It’s basically a regular planetarium, just shaped like the Death Star.
Since we’re apart this Christmas the boyfriend and I already exchanged presents. I gave him a full set of Venture Bros. toys and he squealed like a kid. He’s 43. It was awesome.
The best gift I got this year is a orange kitty that a friend rescued!
What do you get the guy who has everything? My dad has never been easy to shop for, but he usually had at least a few suggestions whenever I’d ask him what he wants. Not this year. So I gave it some thought and ended up at a mall on the 23rd (an act of foolhardiness, yes, but it’s only once a year). I walked out with a HUGE bag of cheese popcorn, which he loves more than life itself. I’m going over to his place a little later today to give it to him, because if I give it to him in front of everyone else in the family, he’d feel obliged to share.
My favorite gift is just having my entire family home together!
My favorite gift is a new laptop. I had a scare when my laptop wouldn’t work, and I needed to hand in an essay for class. I got a new one, and now I can do my college work in peace.
Honestly my best gift received this year is the agreement between husband and I that we’re just going to chill out and not take Christmas seriously. The gift I am giving myself is to focus on me and take better care of myself so that I can hit my 40s like a goddess in a few years. Actually, I guess that gift spills over on to my loved ones, too. Even my MIL seemed to mellow out about Christmas (she’s usually very needy about it, which I have trouble with), and just sent out cards detailing that she’d given to a local charity in everyone’s name for Christmas, which I thought was extra-cool. But today? Today’s gift of awesome was a new CH1 excerpt from Nalini Singh’s upcoming Kiss of Snow. GAH I can’t WAIT for Sienna/Hawke.
Captcha is ‘better46.’ life will be better at 46 than it was at 36!
My favourite gift I’m giving this year is probably going to be the handmade slippers for my mum. I hope they’ll fit!
My favorite gift received was my brother home from Iraq.
My favorite gift is an insane Klein bottle hat I knitted for my boyfriend. This unique gift combined requiring me to learn about math and knitting really fast.
I will get a bunch of dollar store oraments from the little nieces as I always do. 🙂 Its been the tradition for many years. The adults just buy for spouses and children. As the “maiden aunt LOL ” I get little treasures from the kids.
My favorite gift to give this year is the gift of time to both my wonderful hubs and my father-in-law. My FIL is an 80 year old widow living on his own with all of his kids spread far and wide. This year instead of gifts to each other, I took the gift money we had saved in the change jar and bought a plane ticket for hubs with a little left over for some spending money. His gift to me will be all the pictures and memories he brings back to share with me.
The best gift I’ve given this year was a metric ton of nail polish to my best friend for her birthday. She’s obsessed with it, so I raided the drugstore looking for the most unusual and unique colors I could find, in hopes that she didn’t have them already.
My favorite gift was giving my husband Apple TV!
I’m so excited for my kids to wake up tomorrow! My 3 year olds wanted “a jumpy” for Christmas and I found a Little Tikes Trampoline that can be indoor or outdoor. It has netting all around the sides so they can jump without getting hurt. They are going to love it so much!
Merry Christmas!
I’m giving my daughter a Nook Color, which she specifically requested.
It’s the favorite gift I’m giving this year because my girl has always considered herself a “slow” reader, and a poor one—a misconception I’ve tried mightily to combat. Also, at thirteen, she has lately been less interested in books and more interested in boys. That she asked for an eReader warms the cockles of my black little heart…even if it’s the priciest model she could find.
The favorite gift I’ll be receiving is my father’s nigh miraculous recovery from a double knee replacement just ten days ago. He’s up and walking without his walker this morning, which is kind of astounding.
God bless us, everyone. 🙂
Do my amazing semester results count? Although I’ve worked my butt off since September, my final grade sheet looks like a divine blessing. Now I get to have my scholarship increased! Truly a gift the whole family (read: my father) can enjoy!
My favorite gift this year so far is our Christmas tree. I’ve never had a real tree, and this year my husband suggested we get one. It’s so beautiful and it’s decorated with stuff from our travels. I love it. My favorite gift I’ve given this year is the box of goodies I baked and shipped to various friends.
My favorite gift I recieved this years was getting a great new job in a field I actually wanted to be in.
My favorite gift given this year is a school-age e-reader for my 5 year old who just learned how to read a few months ago & who loves books and reading.
Captcha having96 – I hope everyone is having 96 wonderful things happen this holiday! Merry Christmas to everyone.
I got an OOP bk that my bro has been wanting to read for yrs.
My favorite present this year was the MasterChef cookbook. I love Gordan Ramsey and many of the dishes from the show looked so yummy. I can’t wait to start trying them out myself. And I would totally love a Kindle.
My favorite gifts are the cards that I wrote to my family expressing all my gratitude and love to them. Words are my specialty and too often thoughts go unexpressed.
My favorite is the UtiliKilt that I got my father!
The best gift I got this year was my daughter!
To be honest, I don’t have a favorite gift given or received yet this year. But every year my favorite part of the holidays is how everyone finds time in their busy lives to come together and share with each other whether it’s just their time or a home cooked meal. It’s the best feeling!
Happy Holidays to you and everyone here! 🙂
The best gift I gave and received are the same thing. Plane tickets so my 4 year old grandaughter, son, and DIL could come to NH and spend Christmas week with us. I can’t wait for tomorrow morning when the little one sees what Santa brought to Grandam and Grandpa’s house for her.
The best gift I’ve given this year is a GPS with Lifetime Maps/Traffic to my sister, 50. She’s lived with my mom for most of her life hardly leaving the area except for work, exclusively for the last 25 years and when Mom passed away in Aug of Cancer instead of curling up and becoming a hermit. She blossomed…She went out met new people, started traveling and in her words “exploring” Maryland, Pennesylvaina and Virginia. With her new independence and love of “checking thing out” – I thought I a GPS was a perfect gift – so at least she can always find her way home.
This year, I’m surprising my sister-in-law with a personalized snapfish family calendar. I was able to take pictures of almost all 16 adults and 12 kids in my family, and of 16 adults and 20 kids in her family over the past year, and it was a truly momentous day when I received it!
Got my 4 year old horse obsessed daughter a stuffed horse that’s as big as a real life small pony. It’s in a laying position and has a soft saddle and leather bridal so she can “ride” it . I can’t wait to see her face when she sees it!
My fave gifts are the ones I made for my family & friends: brass & silver belt buckle for my brother, washi-patterned copper earrings, hammered silver & copper earrings, 2 wine cork wreaths, tons of crocheted berets & 1 crocheted baby blanket. It’s been a productive year with a hammer, blowtorch, glue gun & crochet hook.
ideas75 – I get 75 ideas a day for stuff to make, but there’s never enough time!
My favorite gift so far is the HDTV my parents gave me for Christmas. My favorite gift I’ve given is the hand carved walking cane for my father.
