Merry Christmas Kindling!

Book Cover Merry Christmas! Want a Kindle?

Since I did a straight week-plus of giveaways for Hanukkah, I figured I should have a present for you for Christmas. How about a chance to win a generation 3 Kindle? All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me your favorite gift received or given this year, and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday 26 December. Contest runs until 4am 26 December 2010 EST.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway, and I don’t secretly belong to Amazon, though if I did, I would SO be prime-able. I’d be Optimus Prime-able. Socks are recommended. If you keep making that face your face will freeze like that. I have no desire for figgy pudding, thank you.

Good luck, happy reading, and merry, merry Christmas to those celebrating today!

Once again I have already racked up three really nice gifts this year…a digital camera, a new desk, but my favorite gift so far is the 5 pair of fuzzy wazzy socks. Soft and warm I love them because they are not an expensive present, but one that equates to a warm snuggle every time I put them on! (I see you also are a Sock-aholic, so far we don’t have a support group but our number is growing…by leaps and bounds)

  2. Lyssa says:

…oh and the favorite gift I gave this year? The complete set of Julia Spencer-Flemings Miller’s Kill books to my mom…She listened to the first one with me on a long trip, and now she is addicted so I got her the complete set, (and the latest Father Tim book by Jan Karon)

  3. Diane says:

    Favorite gift given –
For years, I had promised my husband a new set of golf clubs.  One Saturday before Christmas, my kids asked if we could stop at a side-of-the-road beanie baby stand.  On a whim (OK, I used to be a beanie addict, but who wasn’t?) we stopped.  As my kids were checking out the beanies, I noticed another stand where they were selling golf clubs.  I wandered over and asked the vendor if he had any left-handed clubs.  He promptly put a nice set in my hands and quoted a ridiculously low price, which I paid.  Husband loves his clubs and loves telling people where I bought them.

  4. Michelle W says:

    tickets to go see WICKED!

  5. Kathy says:

The older gentleman next door to us is by himself (except 2 giant mixed breed dogs).  My son thought it a good idea to give him a small hand raise chicken and 2 squirrels he had hunted.  So, he put the frozen chicken and squirrels in a Christmas gift bag and toodled next door.  The gentleman was very touched.

  6. Sandy says:

My daughter moved across country and is having her first Xmas with her fiancee. I bought them knitted stockings for their mantel. It’s a tradition she grew up with and after searching through all the red velvet stockings everywhere she could not find any knitted. She was so happy!!

  7. Emma_I says:

Received: two silver rings from my mum for my birthday last week.
Given: the bag I made for one of my housemates, as it was hard to make without her guessing what it was but she was so pleased when she received it.

  8. Kim Mears says:

My favorite gift this year is one that I am giving.  I made superhero capes for my boys (and my nephew and niece).  I am so excited for them to open them!  They came out so neat!  They will love them.  I can’t imagine anything I could get that would top superhero capes.

  9. Ana says:

In Spain we don’t get our presents until January 6th, so I’ll go with my favorite gift from the ones I’ve bought: for my brother I got a Tshirt that’s gor a piece of velcro across the chest, and then a box full of velcro letters, so you can attach whatever message you want. Mine: ¡Feliz Navidad, mybrother’s name!

  10. Sori says:

My favorite gift I’m giving is an ipod touch that I won in an online contest.  It’s going to my 12 year old daughter who will be thrilled to pieces.

  11. Stacey P. says:

My husband is IMPOSSIBLE to surprise, so this year I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m not getting him anything on account of the fact that we’re watching what we spend. I don’t know if it’ll work, but I put in a last minute order for a bunch of finance books he’s been wanting for pick up at Barnes and Noble this afternoon—I just have to sneak them into the house and get them wrapped while he’s not looking (an interesting feat, since he’s working from home today).

    Last minute shopping FTW, *lol*

  12. Sonja says:

We got my three year old a guitar, so he can “play music with Daddy”.  I also got myhusband books, because that’s my favorite gift to give .

  13. Natasha R says:

My favorite gift given this year is a jewelery storage/hanger thing.

I loved it on first sight! It was the perfect choice for a bunch of friends. I love finding “perfect” gifts 🙂

  18. Lori L says:

My son is in Vet School in St. Kitt’s.  His best friend from college was getting married in Texas, so we bought him a plane ticket for a weekend getaway so he could attend.  My favorite is that he is home for 3 weeks for Christmas!

  19. Anne says:

My favorite gift that I’m going to give is a free night of babysitting for my friend and her husband.  They could really use a night out.

  20. I’m giving my 17-year-old niece a homemade gift certificate redeemable for a Girlie Day (shopping, lunch, nails) with Auntie Tamara – which, diabolically, is also a gift for me!

  21. Cognac says:

My favorite gift is a new Iphone. Woo-hoo!

  22. I always tell my husband, “I’m easy.  You can give me book gift cards or expensive jewelry.”

Last year I got the bling, this year I got book cards, which made me very happy.

I gave him a new leather Bomber portfolio from Levenger’s to coordinate with the (It’s not a purse, dammit!) small messenger bag I got him from Levenger’s last year.

  23. Sarah, not Sarah says:

I’m ridiculously pleased with this lace scarf I knit my aunt out of my handspun. I’m hoping she really likes it. 🙂

  26. freshechelle says:

Best gift so far: A red leather Smythson notebook with “ME ME ME” stenciled on the cover.  So perfect in every way!

  27. Natasha A. says:

*cough* I should clarify why I am trying to win one then huh? I have a friend who would absolutely DIE to get one…so I’m trying to win on her behalf 😉

  28. Hezabelle says:

I knitted hats for everyone! To keep their ears warm from the Canadian winter! I had a lot of fun making them and everyone loved them!

  29. Lisa J says:

My incredibly difficult to get a gift for Mom actually told me she would like me to knit her a couple more hats (I made her one two years ago).  I knit two hats with matching scarves for her and I’m thrilled she actually told me what she wanted.

    Merry Christmas to all!

  30. My favorite gift I am giving—is from “Santa” to my oldest son Jake. He is getting a guitar and I can’t wait to see his face when he gets it—hmm might need to get me and hubby some ear plugs for the first couple of months ; )

Haven’t opened any gifts yet—but I’m hoping I get me some jammies and I have hinted that I would love a copy of Dr Horrible’s Sing along blog

    Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!!

  31. Tina C. says:

I’ve been broke broke broke this year and it was looking lean on the gift-giving side of things.  Then I won one of the 12 Days of Christmas cash give-aways at work.  Now I actually have some money to get a few things!  So I guess that was my best “gift” this year.

  32. Ashley L. says:

I’m giving my niece _Sabriel_ by Garth Nix and my nephew _The Summer Tree_ by Guy Gavriel Kay, in hopes they’ll love them like I do—a new author is always a thrill for me, I hope they feel the same!

  33. AngP says:

Found a white fire opal necklace for a friend. I’d never seen her wear opals so I was a little hesitant.  When she opened the package she almost began to cry.  Her father used to bring her back a piece of opal jewelry whenever he would go on travel.  Best gift I’ve ever given.

  34. Sandy says:

My favorite “gift” was to have lunch with my mother this week.  She had a stroke in April, and I now cherish the time I get to spend with her.  She’s doing better, and to be able to get her to go out of the house and walk under her own power into the restaurant was the best gift I could ever receive.

  35. Gorgeous Nerd says:

I’m giving one of my sisters a Snuggie (she asked for it).  Seeing her put it on will be the highlight of my year, I think.

  36. Patrice says:

My favorite gift given this year was a special weekend away for my DH’s birthday. We went to Disney World and I called ahead and made sure they knew it was a special bday! I can tell you the Disney folks will bend over backward to acknowledge it’s your birthday, no matter your age! 🙂 He didn’t think he’d like it but we both had a great time, capped with dinner at the Contemporary hotel while the fireworks flashed all around. The best was his smile and how he relaxed. Super special!

  37. Carolyn says:

My favorite present given is a Sony reader for my dad.  He’s been wanting an e-reader for years, but hasn’t been able to bring himself to pull the trigger on buying one.  I know he’s going to love it, and seeing his face tomorrow morning when he opens it is probably going to be the highlight of the day.

  38. Laurie says:

I knitted a lace shawl for a co-worker who’s had a rough year. Just something frivolous and pretty to help lift her spirits, ‘cus seriously, don’t we all need silly and frivolous in our lives??!

  39. Susan Laura says:

My favorite gift this year is to my husband: new clothes! He has lost a lot of weight over the past year (40+ lbs) and I am thrilled that he has taken charge of his health and is feeling so much better and younger. But since he hates to spend money on himself he is still wearing dress shirts and sweaters that nearly swallow him they are so large. I know he will look and feel great in his new duds.

  40. Erin says:

My favourite gift given this year is actually a kindle – to my sister who has CP and is quadraplegic.  She has a hard time with paper-based books because she is really rough with the pages and usually tears them as she tries to turn them.  With the kindles’ text-to-speech function, she can listen to a passage if she’s unable to work the buttons (her spasticity comes and goes), or increase the font size, plus a host of other cool things.  I am SUPER EXCITED to see her open it.  🙂  🙂  🙂
