Smart Bitch Sizzling Book Club Pick: Trust Me On This by Jennifer Crusie

Sizzling Book ClubI mentioned it in the Book Club Chat last week, but it’s time for the official announcement, with links and merriment and all kinds of shenanigans (which is my new favorite word).

Book CoverThe next Sizzling Book Club Selection is: Trust Me On This, by Jennifer Crusie. Check out the description:

Dennie Banks is an investigative reporter chasing down the biggest story of her career. Alec Prentice is a government agent working undercover to catch an elusive grifter. When they meet by accident, it’s a case of mistaken identities at first sight. What they don’t mistake is the instant attraction they have for each other, an attraction they’ll do everything in their power to resist—because Dennie thinks that Alec is running interference for her interview subject, and Alec suspects that Dennie is linked to his swindler. As the confusion grows, so do their feelings for each other, and what begins as a romantic comedy of errors may just end in the love affair of a lifetime.

As usual, if you use SBTBARE at checkout, you will get a 50% eBook Bucks Rebate at AllRomance.com, the official sponsor of the Sizzling Book Club. You can also buy a copy at Amazon.com, or Book Depository, or wherever the books in your preferred format are sold.

This book was originally released in 1997 but has been updated and re-released – and I’ve already read it, so I’m really hopping to find out what you think. If you’re a Crusie fan, or if you’re curious about Crusie, I hope you’ll give this book a try and come join us to chat about it.

The Book Club Chat will be 29 November at 9 PM EST, here at the hot pink palace of Bitchery. And yes, at 10pm, author Jennifer Crusie will join us to answer questions and talk about the book. I hope you will stop by and let us know what you thought – and if you have books to recommend for future book club picks, please, let me know! Happy reading!

Hooray!  I love Jennifer Cruise, but I’ve never read this one.  It looks great!

  2. peggy h says:

I just got this book over the weekend!

I’m not really big on plots about mistaken assumptions (smacks a bit of the usual HP trope of the hero thinking the heroine is made of evil when she is really purest of the pures) but I have faith that Crusie will rise above the material.

Still—I find myself strangely not as excited to dive into this as I have with all Crusies I’ve acquired (which is pretty much all of them since I read Candy’s Lightning reviews of Crusie books).  But this is the push that will definitely get me started on the book now.  And I hope I can keep my squeeing to a manageable level when Jenny C joins the chat!!  Thanks, Sarah!!

  3. Kelly S says:

I own and have read the original version.  I’m curious about the new version with the dog.

    It’s a fun read!

  4. Cakes says:

hmmm…I usually like her, too. But I just finished a very unsatisfying ebook bundle of her stuff. I’ll go for it, though.

But why oh why do they always have to “resist?”

  5. Manda says:

I am beyond excited that you are doing one of Jenny’s books. I’ll be there on the 29th with bells on.

  6. dreadpiraterachel says:

OMG. My fangirl squee just scared the dog! I will be here even if it costs me a letter grade on the paper that’s due the next day!

  7. I think what I loved best of all here was the dialogue. That was the main thing that kept me smiling. No one does banter like Crusie. It’s witty and funny and it makes the chemistry between Alec and Dennie just sizzle. There’s also a wonderful secondary romance here, between Harry, Alec’s boss, and Victoria, his aunt. This was a surprisingly sweet romance, considering how strong and temperamental these were.

  8. Carrie says:

Can’t.  Believe.  I have to.  Miss. It.

    *whimpering*

I have a library board meeting I can’t avoid, not even by contracting a case of fake leprosy.  Everyone squee at Jennifer for me, OK?

    *slinking away sadly*

  9. Virg says:

Yey, first time to be able to join the Club. I’ve only read about 3 Jennifer Crusie books before, but since I’m having my Friendly Reading Phase, I’ll read it as soon as I get a copy.

    Yippee!

  10. Jen says:

Wow, I read this book when I was 14, and I really enjoyed it.  However my (overseas) cousin stole it while visiting, and it’s always annoyed me that I couldn’t remember the title or author- I can’t believe I found it again after 13 years!

  11. Evelyn says:

I keep trying to purchase the book from AllRomance but there is no place to plug in the promo code 🙁 How do I fix that?! Please help, gracias.
