A Touch of Scandal: Spend Avon’s Money And Help Rescue Kitties

Book CoverHello. Ah am Gracie. Ah am one of Sarah’s cats. Ah am one of two girls in this house. Everyone else is a boy.

That is the disgusting.

Here is me. Am Ah not pretty? Ah am pretty. You can send me the tributes. Ah like the Pounce.

Sarah asked me to write the entry today because Ah have not ever done so, despite sitting on many, if not all, of Sarah’s romance novels. Mah Gawd, they are everywhere. Piles of them. Ah like to drape my

hairy backside

– ahem – beautiful puffulous posterior across as many as possible, especially if they are in the sun. The books make mah furs glitter, and Ah hear that is very desirable.

Let us go back a minute. Aren’t Ah pretty? Yes, thank you. Admire Mah

Booty

Beauty.

Anyway, this is my brother, Oliver. Sarah calls him The Diggus. Ah call him The Stupid. He is the very dumb. Oliver and Ah were born in Brooklyn. We are rescue kitties adopted from North Shore Animal League. Sarah adopted us because it was the easiest way she knew of to make sure she and Mah Man didn’t break up when they moved in together. See? Ah am pretty, and Ah am the relationship guarantee, in one pretty furry package.

Then came The Spawn, and his late brother, The Foo. They are rescue kitties, too, from… oh, Ah do not care where they are from, but I wish Spawn would go back there. He is annoying.  There are more boys, too: DOG Boys. Can you imagine the indignity? First, there was Toto, and Logan, who both came from the Petfinder.org. And now there are the TWO boy dogs – this is unacceptable but no one is listening to me, here. Buzz and Zeb are from a kill shelter in Arkansas, and Ah will tell you between us that Ah am glad they are here, but Ah wish they would stop trying to sniff Mah Butt. Indignity, Ah tell you.

Anyways. Sarah asked me to write this to tell you that the people at the Avon Books have lost their ever loving’ minds. First they wanted to make a book trailer, but when they said Ah could not be The Star, I said, No. Spend your money somewhere else. Like on me. Then they said no. So then we had the idea. Their author, Liz Carlyle, has rescue cats (clearly, she is the woman of the excellent taste) and to celebrate her new book, One Touch of Scandal, Avon is doing A Touch Of the Crazypants Fund Raising.

For every comment left here, and at a collection of other blogs about the romance, AvonBooks will be donating $1 to Cat Angels, a rescue organization chosen by the Ms. Carlyle. She has the good taste, yes.

The donation will be capped at $3000.00 US, with one comment per person, though you can comment at the other sites including Avon Romance, DearAuthor, Romantic Times Blog, Borders TrueRomance, Fresh Fiction among others (links to come! – SBS). Comments will remain open until we hit $3000.00, or 3000 comments across all the different sites. How long do you think that crazy will take?

If you have the time for that kind of thing. Ah personally am due for Mah Nap.

So go leave the comments here and elsewhere. Feel free to compose odes to the awesome of animal rescue, or to Mah Beauty, or both, and help rescue kitties, like me. $3000, 3000 comments, all for the kitty rescue. Leave the comment, spend the dollar. Is easy.

Because rescue kitties like me, we are the Awesome. And so pretty, did you not notice? Yes, Ah know. So pretty.

Diggus, Spawn, Gracie, and Zeb have a message for you:

    Must help da kittehs!

And yes, Gracie, you are most bootiful.

  2. Liz Carlyle says:

I say Gracie deserves that $750 and then some for all her hard work these last couple of days.  Like one of those rap videos with the half naked girl in a pile of money.  I could just see her and her pufalicious posterior wallowing . . .

  3. pamelia says:

    Yay for kitty rescue!  Yay!

  4. Tara Engle says:

Now thats what I call taking care of the Kitty! lol 😉

Three cheers for Avon and Smart Bitches for doing such an incredible fundraiser for such a great cause!  Sorry to be late, but the Spam Munchkins have been walling out all my comments.  They thought I was trying to SELL something, I guess.  (!!!)  And they were right.  I’d love to sell you a book, but I’d be MUCH happier to sell you an idea—the idea of advocating, in ways both large and small, for animal welfare in your daily life.  One of the best ways of starting is simply to ASK your state and local representatives what their positions are on animal welfare, and let them know YOUR VOTE depends on THEIRS.  Here in North Carolina we fight a hard, daily battle to get spay neuter laws on the books, to increase the statutory limits permitting us to put animal abusers in JAIL and to shut down mass breeding operations.  So consider googling to get the email addresses of your government officials, and shooting them the occasional email.  Let ‘em know you’re watching.  Make ‘em sweat.

Thank you all who turned out for this.  I am gobsmacked by your enthusiasm.

    ~Liz

  6. Noite says:

Yay for Avon!  And yay for Gracie and Sarah!

  7. EMB says:

Yay rescues! They are the best kind of pets.

  8. Santa says:

So glad we’re still posting to Save the Kitties! Love your books Liz and this is really a great cause.

I have a cousin who found a cat and her kittens in her garage in Queens. Unfortunately, she is highly allergic and cannot keep them but has been hard pressed to find any organization to come and take them. She would like to see them get adopted. She’s loved them from afar and has even named one Lola. Yes, she’s smitten.

Does anyone have any information they can share here? I’d greatly appreciate it.

  9. Laura says:

This is a fabulous idea and one I whole-heartedly support.  I have a rescue cat at home and he’s the best!  I would take in a couple more if I could convince my husband…

  10. Chelsea says:

Great job Avon!  I will post to help kitties like the one that is outside my door looking for a home as we speak.  She is very loving but is nothing but skin and bones.  She keeps her vigil hoping that we will let her in.  We have no place to put her though and the shelter down the road has no more room.  So here we sit feeding a lost soul that wandered upon us.  All our animals are rescues and I have a feeling we just got ourselves an outdoor kitty.  Oh well, what is one more?  Guess I better get geared up for a trip to the vet to get our surprise addition checked out.

  11. MJ says:

The kitties of my childhood—Vicki, Tito, Lisa, Benji, Calico, and CC, who have all since passed on and have not been replaced because I married Mr. Severely Allergic—say, “Thank you for your generosity!”

  12. JenJ says:

This is one of the coolest ways I’ve seen an author get the word out for a release. There is no reason not to rescue, when so many are in need, and often the rescued animals give back so much more than they ever receive. Yay for Avon, and Ms. Carlyle!
And my caption word is ‘get26’ – in fact I

get 26 kitties from the shelter, if hubby would only let me…

  13. Gracie, you’re a gorgeous, glittering, goddess.

  14. This is so cute. I love kittens and over the years I have had many rescue animals. They make wonderful pets.

  15. Duchess in Denim says:

    Yeah, Kitty dollars!
I’m halfway through the book and LOVING it…. gotta go read now!
    Bye

  16. Liz C. says:

I expect Avon’s kitty is draining fast . . . another great day of comments!

  17. MaryK says:

My rescue cat died in 2008.  She adopted us when she was an older kitten so she was kind of stand-offish which was a good thing because I’m allergic to cats.  She was supposed to live outside but we had a hurricane power outage and she climbed into the house through a screened window and never left.  I probably won’t have any more cats because of the allergies, but I have a rescue dog now. 🙂

  18. Mimi says:

    meow, meow, say…meow!

  19. Penn says:

My cats chose me! Mama Kitty (may she RIP) got abandoned by her family when they moved out of their house in our impoverished neighborhood, so she brought her kitten (who was Baby Kitty till his dying day) to our backyard. They lounged on our back porch in their kitty house. Mama had been well socialized. Baby never did get too tame, but we wouldn’t feed him unless he let us pet him so we could keep an eye on his health. And now and then he would seem fond of us.

Colby was tossed out of a car window as I approached a red light driving into work 13 years ago. He’s still with us.

Oreo just walked into our house one night when he was a kitten like he’d been living with us for months. I gave him to some neighbors.

Little Cat (who is no longer little) was crossing the road in front of the post office. Since I could see in both directions that no others cars were coming, I slammed on my brakes, told my kids not to move from their seats, ran out, grabbed him, ran back, tossed him onto the passenger seat and kept going. Gave him to the gal who works the front desk at the Y.

I really prefer the cats who come to my house to be rescued versus the on-the-street resucues! But wish they didn’t need to be rescued in the first place!

Aww- I can’t wait to move and get my very own rescue kittehs!  So excited.

  21. Cheryl says:

    What a wonderful idea!

  22. Rebecca says:

Yes, Gracie, you truly are very beautiful.  For all the romance/cat lovers on this site, I am told that there is a live-action film of an all-cat version of Romeo and Juliet (with the voices dubbed by people, because for some reason the noises cats make in moonlit gardens serenading their loves on balconies make people throw water on them).  I have not seen it, but want to.

  23. Abra says:

This is a great idea!  Animal rescue shelters do great work.  Get your pets spayed or neutered, everyone!

  24. Abby Normal says:

    This is for Sammy.

  25. Emily says:

    Love the kittehz!!!

  26. Michael says:

Cats should be saved. Dogs should be loved. If you like historical romance it stands to reason you like history. So please check out my tweets at http://www.twitter.com/MyHistoryTweets  It’s what american hist might have been like with text messages. Lots of fu. ANd for everyone here who follows and sends me a direct message I’ll also contribute a dollar for every follower who follows MyHistoryTweets and sends me a direct message with the words Avon Cat Rescue. 27. Amanda says:

My rescue kitty is the best kitty! They really appreciate being rescued. They really do.

  28. LoriA says:

I would love to rescue a cat, but I have a slight allergy. (Finally got tested, that explained the headaches I used to get when we had our cats!) Oh, well, probably couldn’t have a cat now anyway – where would the poor thing sit, with so many books around …

This is a cause I can definitely support, even if I can’t rescue a cat myself.

And Gracie, you are definitely beautiful. As if you need to be told … Pounce!

  29. Angie says:

    Loving this! Thanks Avon!

  36. Audacity says:

As I am sitting here lurking, my cat is draped across the back of my chair, making it nearly impossible for me to do anything except sit still with absolutely perfect posture. In my weaker moments, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I decided to twirl.

  37. Sarah Ferraro says:

I’ll comment on behalf of Liz, Lynx, Lilly, Six, Baby, Boyfriend, Nermal, Orange Blossom, Lil Mama, Pretty Boy and all the other sweet kitties we are proud to take care of.  Happily not all of them feel a need to be indoor cats.  😀

  38. waroftheroses says:

    kittehs are the bestest!  >^..^<

  39. Jessica Andersen says:

Lucky Lucy, Itchy, Scratchy, Shadow and Leo (all feral rescues that are now lap kitties of some degree or another) all say MEOW to this!

  40. SB Sarah says:

Gracie, who has arrived for her morning nap in the Harper Collins box in my dining room, asks that comment spammers wishing to entice us to sell gold or import Russian brides take their business elsewhere.

“And before you do, come closer. Ah have something to tell you. Wit mah claws. Bitches.”
