A Touch of Scandal: Spend Avon’s Money And Help Rescue Kitties

Book CoverHello. Ah am Gracie. Ah am one of Sarah’s cats. Ah am one of two girls in this house. Everyone else is a boy.

That is the disgusting.

Here is me. Am Ah not pretty? Ah am pretty. You can send me the tributes. Ah like the Pounce.

Sarah asked me to write the entry today because Ah have not ever done so, despite sitting on many, if not all, of Sarah’s romance novels. Mah Gawd, they are everywhere. Piles of them. Ah like to drape my

hairy backside

– ahem – beautiful puffulous posterior across as many as possible, especially if they are in the sun. The books make mah furs glitter, and Ah hear that is very desirable.

Let us go back a minute. Aren’t Ah pretty? Yes, thank you. Admire Mah

Booty

Beauty.

Anyway, this is my brother, Oliver. Sarah calls him The Diggus. Ah call him The Stupid. He is the very dumb. Oliver and Ah were born in Brooklyn. We are rescue kitties adopted from North Shore Animal League. Sarah adopted us because it was the easiest way she knew of to make sure she and Mah Man didn’t break up when they moved in together. See? Ah am pretty, and Ah am the relationship guarantee, in one pretty furry package.

Then came The Spawn, and his late brother, The Foo. They are rescue kitties, too, from… oh, Ah do not care where they are from, but I wish Spawn would go back there. He is annoying.  There are more boys, too: DOG Boys. Can you imagine the indignity? First, there was Toto, and Logan, who both came from the Petfinder.org. And now there are the TWO boy dogs – this is unacceptable but no one is listening to me, here. Buzz and Zeb are from a kill shelter in Arkansas, and Ah will tell you between us that Ah am glad they are here, but Ah wish they would stop trying to sniff Mah Butt. Indignity, Ah tell you.

Anyways. Sarah asked me to write this to tell you that the people at the Avon Books have lost their ever loving’ minds. First they wanted to make a book trailer, but when they said Ah could not be The Star, I said, No. Spend your money somewhere else. Like on me. Then they said no. So then we had the idea. Their author, Liz Carlyle, has rescue cats (clearly, she is the woman of the excellent taste) and to celebrate her new book, One Touch of Scandal, Avon is doing A Touch Of the Crazypants Fund Raising.

For every comment left here, and at a collection of other blogs about the romance, AvonBooks will be donating $1 to Cat Angels, a rescue organization chosen by the Ms. Carlyle. She has the good taste, yes.

The donation will be capped at $3000.00 US, with one comment per person, though you can comment at the other sites including Avon Romance, DearAuthor, Romantic Times Blog, Borders TrueRomance, Fresh Fiction among others (links to come! – SBS). Comments will remain open until we hit $3000.00, or 3000 comments across all the different sites. How long do you think that crazy will take?

If you have the time for that kind of thing. Ah personally am due for Mah Nap.

So go leave the comments here and elsewhere. Feel free to compose odes to the awesome of animal rescue, or to Mah Beauty, or both, and help rescue kitties, like me. $3000, 3000 comments, all for the kitty rescue. Leave the comment, spend the dollar. Is easy.

Because rescue kitties like me, we are the Awesome. And so pretty, did you not notice? Yes, Ah know. So pretty.

Diggus, Spawn, Gracie, and Zeb have a message for you:

Loved this write up!  Well done, Gracie!  Our own gal is a rescue kitty from this very organization!  Hooray!  I love her to bits.  She is our “baby” for now, as we are currently babyless, and she LOOOOOVES being the center of attention.

  5. KD says:

    Aw, such a face

  6. Kimberly S. says:

I have no cats, but we’ve done our share of rescuing—some years ago, my husband was working at a waste treatment facility in our city. Foolishly, the county had built an animal shelter next door, and when residents drop animals off after-hours (in the parking lot; they just dump them out), many of them wander into the plant, sometimes falling into holding pools and drowning. One Saturday, my Other Half was working, and called me to chat—somehow, he casually mentioned a kitten that had taken up residence at the treatment plant. Naturally, I insisted he do something, and by “something” I meant “you bring that kitten home with you if no one else does!”

He did. I named her Tigris, then my mother-in-law fell in love with her and renamed her Lucy. That tiny, unwanted kitten has grown into a sleek, beautiful (spayed) cat, who has since acquired a kitty-sister and doggie-sister, too.

Lucy, this comment’s for you. 😀

  12. Marcia S says:

My sister once rescued a momma cat with just born kittens from a neighbor’s front door mat. As she lived in a no pets allowed apartment with one illegal cat already, she brought them all to my parents house. I shared a bathroom with them until they were old enough to go to new homes. My family had three cats and they (the cats) were not keen on any more moving in. A lot of growling ensued.

  13. Megan says:

Yay cat rescue!  I adopted both of mine as adults.

Gozer, who we adopted from a rescue group 2.5 years ago, is curled up on a box next to my feet under my desk right now.  🙂  he has very similar coloring to the third cat in the video – the one that is not the adorable Gracie or Oliver.

  16. Gwennie says:

My furbabies Simi and Nicky likes this purrrrrrfect idea of helping out rescue kitties like themselves!  Thank you Avon!!

  20. KatherineB says:

Never had to go to a shelter for a cat they just were FOUND….as mewling kittens, orphaned by roadkill mums sadly. The most unusual set of kits were found in a tree, an old willow with hollow niche. Like baby birds, just as hungry by furry. And cute.

  21. I have a Gracie too!  Rescued from the side of the road and the world’s most obnoxious cat.  The tricks she pulls.  Not the least bit grateful . . . but still we serve her.  :o)

  22. S. A. Hughes says:

I serve 3 rescue cats.  One is KJ who was rescued after Katrina, one black cat named Gracie and one beautiful soul (now 15 years old) named Felony because I stole her from beside the highway.  She was wearing a flea collar which I cut off and pushed to the bottom of the trash to hide the evidence.
    Thanks, Avon, for the donations.

  23. Moonlissa says:

I got a rescue kitty last year after trying to cure my rescue puppy’s seperation anxiety for two years.  People are always shocked a brought a cat into a dog home with little to no bloodshed!  Emma Jane is the greatest kitty, and she and Sadie Grace are the bestest of friends!  Now if only they wouldn’t have been playing together at 1am this morning!

  24. Lissanne says:

I will happily comment to support this wonderful cause. My cat Crookshanks was also a rescue cat and he’s brought so much joy into my life. Pets are just awesome.

  25. Judith says:

Gracie, you are beautiful.  I have 4 girls of my own and wish I could have more but alas my apartment is only so big.

  26. Here’s hoping my dollar goes to your speech therapy, Grace.

  27. Shannon says:

We have four formerly feral cats, Alice and Samson and Mickey and Jack. Cat fans and beyond here.

  28. Delia Antonia says:

It was really cute, and I agree with Rebeca, we should include the dog’s rescues too.
I loved the message from Sarah’s Gracie 🙂 She represents all the female cats out there, One thing I love about cats is their character, they ALL think they are King/Queen and they rule LOL
I didn’t get my Mr Murphy in a rescue but next time I get a kitty I will do it that way.
    Great cause. Blessings to all.

  29. Amanda says:

Makes me want to go out and get a cat.  Though my kid is quite afraid of them, so I probably wont.  But if I did, it would absolutely come from a shelter.

  30. Great cause. I have four kitties. Two were free after a garage sale ended and they needed to get rid of them, one came with our first house and the fourth we adopted from the Humane Society last Halloween on Adopt a Black Cat day!

  31. Jessamyn says:

Miss Gracie you are the belle of any ball i bet and any other females in your vicinity would just be unable tocompete with your glorious beauty, hope to hear from you again.

  32. Bonnie says:

    Love kitties!

  33. readinrobin says:

What a cute post and an awesome job, Avon. I’ve had cats around all my life. I’ve never adopted a cat from a shelter, most of ours were rescued off the streets, including a couple of feral cats. Developing a relationship with a feral cat is one of the most rewarding things there is!

  34. SB Sarah says:

Ah have asked Sarah to put the 750 dollars on the floor so Ah could roll arounds on it and show off mah beauty, but she laughed. Heartless cow.

Ah am, for those who have asked, not the single. For one thing, Ah have Mah Man, even though Sarah thinks she is married to him. It is all the lies. He is Mah Man.

Come to think of it, Ah have not seem him post the comment. Ahma go sit on him until he does.

  35. What a great cause!  I have two rescue kittehs myself.

    Fayey

  36. Liz Carlyle says:

I think Jennifer’s double-post poem is EASILY worth $2.  Pam S-J, kindly take note, and keep that checkbook handy.

  37. Thank you, Gracie and friends, for a most entertaining post.

Cornelia, Fang, Fergus, and Orson—your rescue- and shelter-cat cousins—send their regards and thank you for giving everyone a chance to support a great cause.

    Purr!

  38. Krissa says:

    Aw, kitty! I loves it.

  39. Alex says:

    Oh, such pretty pets!!
I only have one dog but he’s plenty of work…and my mom won’t let me get another one anyway 🙁

  40. Jo Evans says:
