Sony Reader: Eat, Read, Sleep

imageSony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!

imageI know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.

All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.

Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.  Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

The third Steig Larsson book:  I NEED it!

  2. Kim says:

Definitely Gone With The Wind.  Gotta love Scarlett and her take-no-shit attitude!

  3. Dine says:

I’m pretty sure the first title I’d add is the most recent Donna Andrews’ mystery, Swan for the Money

  4. MD says:

I would go for Lois McMaster Bujold “A Civil Campaign”. It has so many re-readable moments! And Miles and Ekaterin saying “good bye” temporarily for sake of Nicky is my my top most romantic scene of all fiction, even though it does not come from a romance novel.

  5. Nicole says:

I’d have to go with an old-standby, Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey.  Comfort reading with me at all times!

  6. CarrieNation says:

The first thing I would put on it would be The Fire by Katherine Neville. I love The Eight, but haven’t read the sequel yet.

Second would be Cordelia’s Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold. My friend loved it and has been dying for me to read it so he’ll have someone to discuss it with. Or maybe Lace by Shirley Conran if I’m in the mood for something campy (and I usually am).

  7. Pria says:

First book I download will be Mary Stewart’s Wildfire at Midnight, which was (and has been) a comfort read for me over the years. Actually I don’t even know if Mary Stewart books exist in digital formats—will have to check!

  8. Mel R says:

If I won the e-reader, I’d have to download a couple of Nora Roberts titles I’ve been waiting to get—The Search and Black Hills.
If possible, I’d get the entire backlist of the Anita Blake novels.  That would be awesome!

    my capcha is:  straight69
really?  we’re going there?  on a second post?  how forward!

  9. Emily says:

Tea with the Black Dragon by R.A. MacAvoy.  Followed then by anything by Patrica Briggs and Ilona Andrews.

  10. I’d probably go with Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings.  It’s a fantasy, and he’s an amazing author.

  11. Patrice says:

I would say it will be Patricia Brigg’s new one but I know I couldn’t wait that long! So the first book would be Jeaniene Frost’s Eternal Kiss of Darkness.

I have mixed thoughts about the EPL book but the movie looks entertaining. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  12. Steph says:

The first book…not sure! Maybe MOCKINGJAY or one of the endless list of suggestions I have from my blogger friends.

    Steph

  13. Sherri says:

First book… that’s like asking me to pick a favourite child. Ack! All I can say is it will definitely be a romance.  One drawback to digital reading is you can’t close your eyes and stick your hand in the TBR pile to pick a random read… when will ereaders come with a ‘random’ button?

  14. Katherine C. says:

Jennifer Crusie is always a good choice, but if I could get it early, I’d go with Patricia Briggs’ re-release of Masques. That was one of my favorite books in high school (can’t tell you how many times I checked it out of the library, which no longer has it, probably because someone stole it). I’ve been waiting on it for years, and now it’s finally almost here!!!!!:):):) And it seems to me learning to love a new way to read would be helped along mightily by reading an old favorite.

  15. Mia O says:

Definitely Wildthorne by Jane Eagland.  I’ve been all intrigued since you mentioned it the other day; I love me some YA. 🙂

  16. AndiLeigh says:

Since grad school is starting again *sigh* I would download a book that is quick and makes me laugh! Not any romances (*tears*) because they pull me in and then I do the ‘oh I’m only going to read one more chapter’ dance.  So I would download “Sh*t My Dad Says”!  Seriously how good is this quote,
“I don’t get it; I sweat, I smell fine. You sweat, you smell like mule sh*t…Relax, she’s on the treadmill next to you, she knows.”??

  17. Shaine K. says:

The 1st book I would get would be Sin Undone by Larissa Ione then The Hunger Games trilogy since I have heard such great things about it.

  18. Kate says:

The first book I would put on the reader is Foreigner by CJ Cherry. That series by far is my favourite, and I would love to be able to cart around the whole series and dip in to my favourite parts at will.

  19. dana bowie says:

The first thing I would put on a Sony Reader if I won would be all the e-books I’ve collected over the past few months that are just sitting on my computer. They are ALL Romance, because that’s pretty much all I read. Sure, some of it is smuttier than others, but it’s all romance at heart.

One definite would be the latest Nora Roberts, because I haven’t gotten around to getting it, and I love Nora.

  20. DeirdreT says:

I would probably try to get my hands on a copy of Endurance by S L Viehl as I’m missing that book to read the Stardoc series!  I have book 4 and 5 and ripped my way through books 1 & 2 over the weekend and really enjoyed them.

Failing that Laura Anne Gilman’s Hard Magic, I met her at a convention earlier this year and really would like to read it.

  21. Serena says:

The first book I’d download would be Margaret Atwood’s Orxy and Crake. I’ve read almost all her books and they are all really well written.

  22. cories says:

Like so many others, I’d want Jennifer Crusie’s “Maybe This Time”.  That’ll balance out “Mockingjay” nicely.

  23. Ann says:

Tough question!  The first would be Hard and Fast by Erin McCarthy.  Great, fun book.

  24. Starry says:

First?  You mean I can’t do lots at once?

Hm…. maybe a travel book, since I’ll finally be able to take a long trip for a long time without needing to fill a suitcase with books.

If I’m going to be reading Eat, Pray, Love first, then… does Rick Steves do an Italy e-book?

  25. meardaba says:

A knitting guide, for sure!  I always need one at the most inopportune moments…otherwise, I’d start filling that baby up with all the romances I could find online.  🙂

  26. Elisha S says:

I’d lovingly download Cruisie’s Agnes & The Hitman, because it makes me so very, very happy and I’ve almost read my paper version to death.

  27. Bea says:

Ooo, that ereader cover is very pretty. I’m not sure what the first book I’d choose is but I know I would want the revised eidtion of “Masques” by Patty Briggs comign out next month, and its’ sequel, “Wolfsbane”. That way they stay safe, clean, and always available.

If I have to pick a book sooner than that, ummm, “Face Off” by Mark del Franco.

  28. Joder says:

First book I download will be Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay.  I do so love this series and am absolutely chewing at the bit to get the final installment.

  29. Mama_Yaya says:

Considering I’ve not read Eat, Pray, Love, I think that would be my first download. I’m also way behind on my Jennifer Crusie’s, so that would come a close second.

Pick me, pick me! That blue is too beautiful.

view83: I’d view at least 83 new books on my new Sony eReader.

  30. Mama_Yaya says:

Oh, I’m a dolt. It’s “aside from the two free downloads.” Sorry, long day. My first download, then, would be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson.

  31. I’ve been looking at these, and studying them, and maybe getting one for my birthday next month, (Happy Birthday to me!)
I’d put “Whisper of Steam” – erotic steampunk on it, because it’s on my computer, and the stories are so good, I’d love to have it on a platform easier to read.

  32. Sabrina D. says:

Darkest Hour by Maya Banks or if it was here before that book comes out probably Hot and Fast by Erin Mccarty

  33. Kelsey says:

I would download All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins.

  34. Angie G says:

First would definitely be a romance.  I’d love for it to be a classic Julie Garwood historical, but I’m not even sure if “e” versions of those are available. I’d have to do some research.  I’d also like anything by Lisa Kleypas or how about Joanna Bourne?  There are endless possibilities! 🙂

Thanks so much for this opportunity.

  35. Kaye says:

Oh, man, this is so hard………..how about my entire keeper shelf.  Who am I kidding, shelf?  How about shelves, or bookcases, or those under-the-bed-boxes full of books.

Ok, I’ve got it -the first romance I ever read was Julie Garwoods ‘Knight in Shining Armor.  Or my most re-read historical ‘Lord of Scoundrels’.  Or my favorite contemporary ‘Bet Me’

Or, or, or………..the list is endless and I would probably have to remortgage to afford them all!

  36. seton says:

My furst bk would be a Madeline Hunter or a HP

  37. Tullae says:

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because Douglas would have loved this whole ebook reader thing if he’d lived to see it.  In fact, that whole book is about a sort of ebook reader thing.

Strength63.  It would take the strength of 63 wild horses to keep me from this reader if I won it.

  38. Sycorax says:

    This open to non-US people?

Right now I would chose Ice Blue, by Anne Stuart because, while she is not a favourite, I am currently hooked on that series, despite – or perhaps because of – her creepy heroes.

  39. Laura Arrowood says:

The first book I’d buy would be the new Richard Castle book “Naked Heat”. Which isn’t out yet…and I don’t even know if it’s in the Sony format. But just sayin…;)

  40. Lesley Robinson says:

The Road to Bedlam by Mike Shevdon, which comes out in the UK on 1st September – it’s a sequel to the utterly fantastic Sixty-One Nails. They’re based on English folklore but are so much more than the sum of their parts. I read the first few pages of Sixty-One Nails in a local bookshop last year and had trouble putting it down long enough to pay for it. Second would be A View from the Foothills – the political diaries of Chris Mullin – my arthritis got worse just after I bought it and I can’t lift the hardback copy! (PS I’m not as old as this makes me sound…). I’m also on tenterhooks for the Jennifer Crusie.
