Sony Reader: Eat, Read, Sleep

imageSony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!

imageI know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.

All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.

Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.  Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

It is hard to pick just one… but I’m really looking forward to Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole (only one more week!) so that would probably be first!

  2. teshara says:

    Harry Potter 😀

  3. K.C. says:

The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. I fell in love with the movie and it was my first “big girl” read. =)

    Yeah, take that baby-sitter’s club.

  4. Nikki P says:

I don’t think I could pick just one! A small hoard would be more likely, and then I would try and transfer them all on as fast as possible. But Lord of Scoundrels would probably make it on first, followed by Marjorie Liu’s Dirk and Steel series, Lynn Flewelling’s Luck in the Shadows, and Sara Creasy’s Song of Scarabaeus. I loved those books.

  5. Virg says:

Oh wow, I think I’d download first Last Night’s Scandal by Loretta Chase since I liked your review on that one and then followed by Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy (After finishing the 3rd book – with the persuasion of your review of course – I was hooked!).

  6. Kimi Mc G says:

Oh, that one’s easy: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
“In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

Then it would all be followed up by Gena Showalters’s Lords of the Underworld series. ^.^ I’m an addict.

  7. Natalie Decker says:

Ah! This is so great! In honor of Romance, I would imediately download a Julia Quinn book and read it all in one day. I think Brighter than The Sun maybe. Yay!!!!

  8. brit says:

Besides transferring my seriously large collection of ebooks that I have only read on my computer, I have a ridiculous amount of books on my wishlist. (My sony wishlist has McCarthy’s Hot Finish, Frost’s Eternal Kiss of Darkness, and James’ A Kiss at Midnight as the most recent additions.)
But I have the need to download “classics I feel guilty for not reading” Frankenstein comes to mind. I would download Frankenstein and read it and revel in the fact that it was FREE through the google books section. Could I just borrow it for free from the library? Sure, but it is not the same, I will own it and pay nothing! The idea that I could do this on a reader I got for free almost makes me burst into maniacal laughter.

  9. Teri C says:

The first book I would put on my swanky new reader would be a hot romance. One of those that where the cover is so risque I feel embarrassed to read it at the park while I am surrounded by moms while I watch 5 kids. I could read away and they might imagine I was reading something like the New York Times, but really I was secretly enjoying a bodice ripping adventure amidst my own little reading portal. OR when I go to soccer practice I could totally engross myself in its leathery covering surrounded by sweaty dads and I would not have to have flaming cheeks and hiding book spines.
    Yeah…….

  10. StacieH4 says:

The first book I’d put on the reader would be Nora’s The Search.  For Jenny Crusie fans…the Sony ebook Store has BetMe on sale for $2.99 right now as does ARe. Yay!

  11. alisonh says:

First book?  What ever the g*& &a%? geographic restrictions let me add…

  12. Mari says:

First I’d dance, sing and geanerally annoy my family with choruses of “I win, I won”.  Then I would probably have to get one of my grown kids to show my how to use the damn thing. Its hard to choose, but my first book would definitely be a romance. Hmmmm, maybe Dark Gold by Christine Feehan because its one of my favorite ‘comfort reads’ and my paperback is held together with super glued construction paper and used hair ties.  Or maybe something really smutty that I normaly wouldn’t let lie around because the book cover just raises too many questions (and eyebrows).  Hey, would I be able to transfer all those erotica pdfs I have to the reader?  Now I’ll have to keep checking back on this…its like waiting for the Lotto drawing!

  13. izzybella says:

The first book I’d put on the reader is my all-time ever favorite book, Pride & Prejudice.  I own so many copies of this book already, not to mention the mash-ups, sequels, and other permutation I can find.  A digital copy would be like yummy, yummy buttercream icing.

  14. Melissandre says:

So many books, so many tough decisions.  The first book I would buy for the reader would probably be Lover MIne by J.R Ward.  That way, I could justify buying it before it comes out in paperback.

  15. Lindy says:

First book I would add is Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris.  The 10th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series.  Followed closely by the first 9 books in that series.

  16. Karen H says:

Too many choices!  Basically, I’d go with whichever of the following new books were available and hadn’t arrived in the library yet (in no particular order):
    Christine Feehan
    Jayne Castle
    Eloisa James
    Lisa Kleypas
    Kresley Cole
    Sherrilyn Kenyon
If they all were available but not in the library yet, I’d probably pick Kresley Cole (though it’s a TOUGH choice!).

  17. Faye says:

Oh boy! So much Green Gables love! That would be my choice as well, or perhaps the first book in the Nora Roberts Brides quartet. Then I would take it outside to read on my lunch breaks, and forget to come back to my desk.

  18. BEck says:

The count of Monte cristo b/c it’s thick ( har) and I don’t want to carry it in my bag. And I would finish it for realsies this time too

  19. Kristy says:

I’d probably go with Men in Kilts by Katie MacAlister, although my first fave romance Bride Finder by Susan Carroll is one I’d love to be able to read and read again.

  20. Alpha Lyra says:

The first book I’d put on it would be one of those romance novels you’ve reviewed that was released as ebook only. I don’t remember the title or titles, but I know I keep reading reviews and thinking, “I want that book!” and then it turns out to be a e-release only, so I can’t buy it.

  21. Samantha says:

I haven’t even browsed what’s new in the paranormal arena for ages due to space issues (I fear the towering pile next to my bed) so I’d go nuts on those.  Perhaps some Lilith Saintcrow.

  22. Emily says:

Amy Lane.  I’ve been wanting to read her books after all I’ve heard about them.  But the small press books are so expensive and hard to find.  Then the question becomes which of her books?  Little Goddesses?  Keeping Promise Rock?

  23. Something Jane Austen. I need some comfort reading.

  24. sheriguy says:

The Land of Painted Caves by Jean Auel . I have been waiting forever for this book. The Earth’s Children series was the first time that I read books that combine hot sex with good plot driven writing. YAY!!!

    confirm word: black—yes; 58—no!

  25. Danie says:

His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman.  Because I’m masocistic and those books can still make me cry.  Damn, I need to reread those.

  26. Judy says:

Oh wow – what a great birthday present this would be (it’s Thursday, actually, but better late than never!!).  The first book would be Lorelei James All Jacked Up…followed by Cherise Sinclair’s The Dom’s Dungeon, Joey Hill’s Rough Canvas, and Jeaniene Frost’s Eternal Kiss of Darkenss – that should get me through the first week of e-book reader ownership!!  “could59” – ooh, I could easily come up with 59 books to put on a new e-reader w/a beautiful blue cover (and blue is my most favorite color ever!!).

  27. Erin says:

For my first book, I’m thinking something by Dickens. Something that I should read but never got around to because the book is so big and thick and unwieldy and /intimidating./

  28. Angela says:

1st book: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie.  I’ve got to be the only romance fanatic on the planet who hasn’t gotten around to reading this book.  I *loves* tortured heroes, but the purchase of this novel always gets pushed back for some PNR or military romance novel.  I’d love an excuse (like a free reader *cough*) to find out for myself why everyone’s so enamored with this book.

2nd: Winter’s Bone by Daniel Woodrell.  I saw the trailer for the movie coming out soon and instantly fell in awe.  Deep, deep awe.

  29. TheDuchess says:

Definitely Jennifer Crusie’s Bet Me. I recently reread it and it just deserves the honor.

  30. Bree .Y. says:

Perhaps a little time travel romance to indoctrinate my eReader? – Outlander by Diana Dabaldon!

  31. Liz says:

my first ebook would be Three Fates by Nora Roberts.  It is my absolute favorite book.  I’ve read the paperback about 5 times since it came out in my senior year of high school, and it never disappoints me.  I love how getting involved with the Sullivans and Cleo changes Tia from a completely neurotic hypochondriac into an almost normal person.  Plus, I think my first full-fledged literary crush was on Gideon.

The second would be Hiding in the Shadows by Kay Hooper.  That’s the one where Noah and Miranda get together, and is my favorite in the series.  This series combines three of my favorite things: law enforcement (doesn’t every crim student love law enforcement?), psychics, and romance.

  32. Christine says:

Oh, I know! I would get Linger by Maggie Stiefvater. I thought her first in the series was phenomenal.

  33. Tania says:

Lisa Kleypas’s “Love in the Afternoon.” I have to finish my Hathaway fix and haven’t have a chance to get to the bookstore recently. Kleypas’s “Stranger in my Arms” was the first romance I ever read and I’ve loved her since.

  34. HelenY says:

The Mammoth Hunters by Jean M. Auel, because Twihards can’t even begin to know the meaning of angst.

  35. Mo says:

The first thing I’d download would be Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer.  One of my favorites; I’d love to have it with me all of the time.

  36. KristenMary says:

Hmmm, my first e-book would be either Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts (my all time favorite) or Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase (my other all time favorite). Both I reread often and use as an introduction to romance novel reading for friends that don’t know where to start or are looking for a good read.

  37. Manda says:

Something by Jennifer Crusie, most likely Faking It.

  38. JenTurner says:

A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle, because it’s still my favorite book of all time. Then (even though it’s probably not available in digital format) I’d have to start the romance list with Texas Temptation by Gina Robins, because it was the very first romance novel I read, and to this day just seeing the cover makes me smile. 🙂

  39. miatta says:

Oh Lord, for book addicts, this is the worst question ever. But most likely, Daughter of the Forest, by Juliet Marillier. Or anything in the Sevenwaters series. Or anything by this woman. She writes fantasy like no ones business. And her prose is so gorgeous it makes me want to cry ( I often do, even during re reads)

  40. hollygee says:

I see others have the same idea:
First, Jennifer Crusie’s new Maybe This Time
    Second, all of Heyer’s regencies.
