Sony Reader: Eat, Read, Sleep

imageSony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!

imageI know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.

All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.

Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.  Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

So many choices, so little space…  Gail Carriger’s “Blameless”.

spamword: length54. Oh, again, so many snarky remarks, so little space.

  2. Quill says:

Whatever Lois McMaster Bujold book I can lay hands on first…or possibly Diane Duane!

  3. Ruth (CO) says:

The first book would be Patricia Briggs for my sister-in-law (MB) as I would want this as a gift for her.  I have managed to get her hooked on Patricia Briggs.  MB is a teacher and so e-readers have not been in her budget but if she was given one, she would be one happy camper.

  4. Sarah W says:

I would probably download the new Kresley Cole book due out next week, if I could wait that long!

  5. Olivia says:

The first book I’d download would be Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.  I know I’m late to that book, but it’s one I keep meaning to read.  I wrote my undergraduate thesis on romance novels and Jane Austen years ago and just can’t stop myself from anything Austen related.

  6. Llanally says:

Kresley Cole – Demon from the Dark.
Then I would probably get all the Laurell K Hamilton’s so I can get rid of all my hardcovers and have that ever elusive bookshelf space.

  7. Kristin says:

If I was lucky enough to win this ereader (please, oh please) , the first book I would put on there besides Ms. Gilbert’s books would be The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth SteinThe Art of Racing in the Rain is one of the most amazing books I have ever read.  It has a kick ass title and a truly unique story. And, like almost all my favorite books, there is a love story involved.

  8. Kismet says:

Well, the first download would be a tough one. I have a huge To be Bought list. I want the whole Austen collection, to start with. Then there’s Anna Campbell’s new book, and Claudia Dain’s new book, and Sabrina Jeffries is coming out shortly, and I still have to try Loretta Chase (gasp, horrors, I know… I’m a Chase virgin). AND I still have to try Heyer (crying, wailing, gnashing of teeth, Yes, I’m also a Heyer virgin)…

See my “I need to buy” list is way too long for my budget 🙁

  9. Jordan says:

Right now, it would have to be Demon From the Dark by Kresley Cole.

  10. Erin Bradmon says:

Blushing, the YA book Mocking Jay the third book after Hunger Games – (I know really stretching my reading level) I might be planning on being one of those screaming fans who waits in line until the midnight release, in a wig and long trench coat, with my teenage niece, of coarse.  (Hey, my name doesn’t print at the top of the post does it?)

  11. SamG says:

My first download (if it is even available) would be Julie Garwood’s Ransom.  Just because it is one of my ‘go-to-re-reads’.  I would think it may be the book I’ve read most often, and I would have an easy ‘do I like it as well this way’ comparison.

Then I would have a wonderful christmas of new e-books 😉

  12. KTG says:

So hard to pick one book! Probably The Crimson Petal and the White because it is about to be made into a miniseries and I need to reread it before I watch it.

  13. Chase says:

My first would have to be Pride and Prejudice; I’ve never tried an e-reader before, so I’d want the first book I read to be one I know I’ll like.

And you can never have too many copies of Pride and Prejudice, right?

  14. Lori S. says:

The very first would be Welcome To Temptation by Jennifer Crusie, which is so battered it’s barely readable.  Then I’d pre-order her new release, Maybe Next Time.

  15. Tili S. says:

The first book I’d get would probably be a fantasy novel. I haven’t read a good sweep-you-up, make-you-think-you-live-in-its-world fantasy in too long!

  16. Tan says:

Evil to make me pick JUST one 🙁 But I guess it’d have to be The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.. love the book.. reread it a couple of times and each time I have a new perspective

  17. mlsky says:

I think I’d load the Suzanne Collins series and finally read them. My friends won’t stop raving. 😀

  18. Castiron says:

Depending on how easy it is to sideload, I’d break down and buy the eARC of Bujold’s CRYOBURN.

  19. Rush baldota says:

It’s a tough call.. would be a choice between Sense and Sensibility & Pride and Prejudice

  20. Margaret says:

My first download would probably be Megan Hart’s Naked. E-readers are perfect for reading steamy books!

  21. Layla says:

Oh, I totally agree with the Jennifer Crusie love – her newest will either be on a totally gorge Sony reader or on my Kindle for the iPhone.  Either way, I am totes magotes excited about it!

    fiscal57 – maybe I’ll be fiscally responsible when I’m 57

  22. Jessi J. says:

I’m very eclectic when it comes to books I read, So I’m going to have to say Dean Koontz’s Watchers… Such a great book, and I love how he mixes romance with danger and a little bit of conspercy therey mixed in!

  23. TriciaB says:

oooh what a great giveaway. Thank you SBSarah and Sony. I would buy the first in Cindy Gerard’s Black Ops series since I am just about to finish her Bodyguards series.

around54 – it’s around 54 pounds my doctor would like me to lose

  24. cin says:

Mockingjay, so I don’t have to battle my kids for a chance to read the book (or else read it in the wee hours after they have gone to sleep, probably losing their place(s) and thereby incurring their wrath)!

  25. Robin says:

I would buy Gail Carringer’s Changeless; have been wanting to read that for ages.  I got my friend hooked on the first book, Souless, and she is bugging me to get the second book so she can borrow that, too.

  26. Renee says:

Since I broke a personal code and saw the movie first (which was excellent), I realized that the book must be even better. So I’d read first, “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” and probably download the rest of the books in the sequence as well.

  27. Another Damn Sarah says:

I would download the Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. I find myself wanting to read these over and over and over again, and they get better each time I do. Must have my Eugenides fix!

  28. Lauren says:

I agree that Jennifer Crusie would need an immediate space on my e-reader. I can’t wait for Maybe This Time.
I also can’t wait for Mockingjay so Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games would be my second download.

  29. Annette says:

First book would be either Johannes Cabal the Detective by Jonathan Howard or some steamy romance that I don’t necessarily want my husband to know I’m reading…. LOL

  30. Rainbow Jen says:

Hmm, the first book I’d put on my new Sony Reader would Echo in the Bone, by Diana Gabaldon. I’ve loved her books forever, but I haven’t found time to read this one, since it weighs like 20 lbs. With a sleek reader, I’d be able to haul that (and all Gabaldon’s books, which are about equal to my own body weight) with me wherever I go!

  31. Patsy says:

Though I love having romances on my iphone’s kindle, I’d first download David Mitchell’s “Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet”  (itself, quite romantic), because I’m trying to get through it now, but it’s so freaking huge, I can’t carry it with me to read at lunch and on the L platform, and it’s too much for the iphone’s tiny screen.  Sony reader, save me.

  32. Laura Danger says:

Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole, because the library has yet to verify it has ordered the next Immortals After Dark book.  If I was feeling responsible, I’d download a textbook, ‘cause I just started grad school.

  33. Jessica says:

I’d download my favorite book, A Prayer for Owen Meany.

  34. Elyane says:

The first book I would download would be No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

  35. Katherine says:

The next book in Kresley Cole’s Immortals after Dark series comes out on the 24th, so it would have to be that! And then I’d go and buy the hardcopy, because that’s how I roll.

  36. Becca says:

Flowers from the storm.  Absolutely.  That’s my fave romace.  After that… the newest from Kenyon, Feehan, and Ward.

  37. M.J. says:

I can only pick one, huh? Probably Victoria Dahl’s “Crazy for You.” I’ve been dying to read it, but I can’t find it in bookstores. Only online these days. Love her! 🙂

  38. Tandis says:

I have a Kindle that I just love, love, LOVE! But unfortunately, I can’t access my library’s ebooks with it. 🙁 However, the Sony Reader can! So yeah, I’d be getting library books with it 😀

  39. Kristina says:

Entering for my daughter so the first download would be Mockingjay. She’s been all aquiver with anticipation.

  40. Susannah says:

Definitely something trashy. I love the ability to be surreptitious!
