Sony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!
I know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.
All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.
Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand. Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

I would have to say that Pride and Prejudice would be the first on my list! Is, was, and always will be my absolute favorite novel!
*pant, pant*
Did I make it in time?
The first book I would download is Hunting Eichmann by Neil Bascomb. I saw it in Kramerbooks in DC yesterday, and was debating buying the papercopy, when I more-or-less suddenly realized that I needed to leave *right now* in order to make it home to meet my parents who were bringing back my kiddo from a grandparent visit.
Not incidentally, I did buy two other books because—well, bookstore! And also to support independent bookstores. But as soon as I got home I realized the one I really wanted to read was the one about hunting down the Nazi war criminal.
I would put on Plucking Cupid’s Bow by Adam Griffith (you haven’t heard of it because it hasn’t been published yet, but it’s incredibly good. Oops, forgot to mention that he and my daughter aren’t married, and yet they’re joined at the hip, but in a nice, non-surgical way. Ok, I’m prejudiced because he’s nice and he’ll probably be my son-in-law as soon as both of them finish their degrees).
Besides, it starts with someone doing a swan dive from the top of the Washington Monument, and surviving it.
Anyway, that’s one cute Sony Reader!
I’d put Brushback by Jamie Scofield on first, because I need to see how our ebook files display on yet another reader. *vbg* (There are only so many I can get my hands on at a time! *g*)
The first ebook I would download would be Blameless by Gail Carriger; the cliffhanger at the end of the 2nd book made me glad I read it only a few weeks before the 3rd one is due.
Ooh… this is a toughie. I think the first book I downloaded would be Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I LOVE that book.
Or it’d be a Lovecraft book.
If they’re available, I would download The Black Jewels books. Next would be Linda Howards’s Mackenzie’s Mountain.
last year i bought a winter coats for 50 dollars. how? because i
saw it on the self in the middle of summer in 99degree heat! i was sure glad i had
2010 winter coats to keep me warm this past winter in the biggest snow storm
I would buy Thud by Terry Pratchett.
The scene where Vimes is busting through the dark tunnels, lost and doing everything in his power to get home on time to read young Sam his bedtime story.
Melts my heart every time. I want to be that kind of parent.
The first book I would download would be The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, been putting off reading it.
Is this open to non-US residents?
If so, I would buy Georgette Heyer’s These Old Shades, as this is my favourite of her books, and they haven’t been available on ebook that I could find!
This would be So. Awesomesauce.

I’m rereading it right now on my Kindle. I also have Devil’s Cub, and Infamous Army, The Black Moth and more to come.
those74 – those first 74 books come very quickly, the next 74 just as fast, and the next 774 take a little longer, but not much, once you find out how many free classics are available for the ereaders.

I think I would have to put a romance on, because those are my favorite pleasure reads. Maybe a classic by Julia Quinn, because I adore those books (srsly, who hasn’t read ‘The Duke and I’ multiple times?).
The first book would be the third and last book in the “Hunger Games” series. I really love this series and can’t wait ‘til the new book is released. As I live far from good book stores it will be quite a while before I can read it 🙁
But e-book would be fast and good way to explore the events in this book 😉
I’d pick These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer. Classic!
