Sony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!
I know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.
All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.
Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand. Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

I would dowload Gone With the Wind. One of my absolute FAVOURITE BOOKS EVER, and my current copy (my second!) is held together with packing tape. It deserves to be honourably retired and replaced with something I can actually READ!
I’m going through a science fiction phase, and reading all the Honor Harrington novels by David Weber. i have them in E-books, (thanks Baen) but I’m sick of reading them on my laptop!
So yes. David Weber’s complete works.
What would be the first I would put on it? A paranormal romance! I LOVE them!
I would buy all of Lora Leigh’s breed series, starting with Elizabeth’s Wolf.
The first book I would add would be Jacqueline Carey’s Naamah’s Kiss.
Wow what a great giveaway – and the cover is quite nice as well ;).
I would pick Unbridled by Beth Williamson or Carnal Sins by Alison Brennan!
The first book I’d download would be A Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter. 🙂
Lots of beach/vacation reads! I have a mini vacation over Labor Day and since school starts that week it will be my last chance to revel for a while!
Something I can demonstrate to elderly aunts and strangers on trains: Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. After that, all bets are off.
Oh, I would immediately head over to Dreamspinner Press to get myself some hawt m/m books! I would pick up “In the Flesh” by new author Ethan Stone and then “Strawberries for Dessert” by Marie Sexton, and then….probably just keep shopping:)
Magic Bleeds by Iilona Andrews, for sure. I love the Kate Daniels series, but for some reason my local Chapters doesn’t carry any of her stuff.
This is a tad ironic b/c Friday night, I was regaling (read boring) a group of pharma editor friends about all the ereader choices out there and when asked, confessed that were I to chose one now, it would be the Sony ereader.
Romance, of course, would be my first download, my second download, hell, a whole day of downloads. I guess the very first title I would download would be “Outlander” because I have crazy love for it and it’s the first thing that came to mind. But in that first round of crazy downloads, SCOUNDREL to see all the stuff you’ve been taunting us with on Twitter, and ALL I EVER WANTED would be two top priority downloads so I can do the Summer Book Club this Friday – Whoo Hoo!
While I’m being genuine here on my choices, I gotta ask: Do I get extra points for sucking up?
spam word: addition47 because there would be an additional 47 titles plus on that ereader as fast as my plump fingers could ask for them.
I’d have to go with Naked in Death, to start. I like the idea of rereading all of JD Robb on an ereader.
I would go with Spirited Away by Cindy Miles, one of my favorite books!
I’ve been wanting to read The House on Tradd Street by Karen White……so that would be my first download and my first time using an e-reader.
In a flash I would download Outlander by Diana Gaboldon. I’ve read this series about 5 times. I feel like I’m the main character, Clair and it’s like “coming home” when ever I need to escape.
Hey, my comment from yesterday is gone!
In any case, I’d get Jennifer Crusie’s “Maybe This Time”.
The my first book purchases would be “Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins and/or “Stealing Heaven” by Elizabeth Scott. Ever since your post I have been pursuing all things YA…mysteries, romance, sci-fi. The books are amazing and helps to extended my summer for just a few more weeks.
I would have to go for my favorite comfort reads: Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught and Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
Hm, I note that Harriet the Spy is available as an e-book. I figure I’d start gentle before exposing my e-reader to adult content 🙂
I would download How to Marry a Marquis by Julia Quinn. It’s one of my favorites.
My first book would be The Scandal of the Season by Sophie Gee cause the bookstore didn’t have it today and I really wanted to get my hands on it. Second would be Anthony Bourdain’s new book cause he’s one hot hunk of older handsome. Third would be a Harlequin Spice cause it’s the end of summer and I needs me a bit of reading fun.
Putting on my Scarlett O’Hara accent: As God is my witness, I’ll never be bookless again.
Dropping the accent, I’ll add that I’ll probably be broke in a month, but it’d be a great way to go. As for the first book I’d download – I just saw a mention of an e-ARC of Scot Westerfield’s Behemoth, the sequel to Leviathan. Or – but really, the choices are endless.
southern66 – the catchpa must have noticed the GWTW reference!
First book I’d put on there would be Demon Blood by Meljean Brook. I’m in the middle of rereading the series before reading the latest one.
I had a Sony prs-505 which I loved, loved, loved. So much that it died of overuse. If I was lucky enough to get another, the first book on it would be the first book I put on the old one—Pride and Prejudice. I just like the idea of Jane going Techno. I think she would be all amusement.
This is tough. If you were to ask in an hour, my answer might change 😉 My TBR lists Gail Carriger’s Changeless, but I’m also eager to read Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Kiss.
I would probably download some old school Beverly Cleary. Everyone keeps talking about the new Ramona movie (*cough*andhowterribleitis*cough*), and it has put me in the mood for a little Ramona… probably Ramona and Her Mother, since it has the infamous toothpaste incident.
Followed immediately by some Kleypas. I moved recently and so have been separated from my books, which is enough to make any die-hard paperback lover wish for an eBook reader!
Wow, I just found this blog and I am so going to keep reading this stuff.
I would have to say that I would definitely download a hot and steamy romance. Probably something by Bertrice Small (I think she has a new one coming out soon) or Lora Leigh. One nice thing about the e-readers is that you don’t have to be embarrassed by raised eyebrows at the cover art or titles of what you are reading
Apparently it’s a total travesty that I haven’t read Cider House Rules, so I would invest in a little digital John Irving. Also, Blameless by Gail Carriger is coming out soon and I’m really excited for that, so it’d be my other choice. That reader case is SO pretty!!
Mine would probably be “Demon from the Dark” by Kresley Cole. Although so many choices……
Thanks Sony – GREAT prize!
First book would be ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen – I’ve worn out 2 copies and I’m up to my 3rd now…
I’m just dreaming of the 100’s of books to follow.
First book would be…probably either something by Elizabeth Hoyt or Christopher Moore. Depends on my mood!
Hopefully Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins and Demon from the Dark by Kresley Cole would be the first 2. If I don’t buy dead tree versions first:-)
Whew..hard choice.I am a sucker for paranormal romance, and I will admit I love me some hot sexy vampires….so…my choice would be…J.R. Ward-Lover Mine.
The first book I would put on would probably be the most recent Sookie Stackhouse book or something similarly instant-gratification-y, and then anything from my wishlist that I can get my grubby hands on (currently at 72 books and counting).
(e-books or air conditioning? I’m sure I’ll make the right decision.)
Choices, choices…My first would be Elizabeth Hoyt’s Wicked Intentions. Thanks for a great contest.
Oooh! Thanks for the chance.
I’d totally add Nalini Singh’s Slave to Sensation. I can read that series over and over again.
Suzanne Brockmann’s “GET LUCKY” its not available in print!!!!!!!!!!!! I have search used book store yet, nothing!
Probably, Megan Hart’s new release…Naked
My first romance read was Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips so I think it would be fun to have it as my first e-book as well. After that Lauren Dane’s backlist!
