Sony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!
I know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.
All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.
Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand. Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

oooh!
I’m looking to put Sharon Lee’s Carousel Tides on the ebook….
The Cryoburn arc from Baen.
So many choices. But I think I’ll go with Connie Willis’ new book, Blackout and its sequel coming out in October. But all you other ladies sure have given me a lot of other books to think about. Thanks for the giveaway!
I would put on the whole Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Romance, mystery, action – it covers all genres and is my favorite escape.
One of my go to books…Brockmann’s Over the Edge or
The first book I’d download would probably be The girl with the dragon tattoo…people keep telling me to read it and I’m beginning to think I should! Now, if it would be the first book I’d READ, that’s a totally different question 🙂
What a terrific offer! I would download some category romances or the bundle that Wendy the Super Librarian has participated in. The more the merrier!
OOooh I wants I wants I wants! I would buy the new Terry Pratchett, or maybe the new Gail Carriger, or maybe a book about potty training since we’re about to embark on that challenge…So many choices!
I’m going to say the second book in Marjorie Liu’s Maxine Kiss series. I just read the first after the interview here, and I want the second right away! I love Jennifer Crusie, too, but I want Darkness Calls now!
First book I’d download would be ‘Under Heaven’ by Guy Kay. I’ve taken it out from the library x3, but it’s too big to carry around and I can’t get much read. Of course I’d have to win the new reader first, because my own one is on the fritz and keeps freezing!
Hmm. I’d love to say some yummy romance title, but I’m dying for a re-read of Little Women and Jo’s Boys.
I would probably put something really trashy on it first, something with absolutely disgraceful cover art because I won’t have to worry about reading it in front of my kids! This is the brilliance of ebook readers!
Meanwhile, I’ve looked high and low for a cute ebook reader cover and come up with ZERO! Its sad to say that it is a determining factor in my purchase of a reader. The sony isn’t as pretty as others but it is the only one that works with my online library so its certainly a WIN purchase. If I don’t win this contest, hopefully I will be able to find a cute cover such as this when I decide to buy my ebook reader!
I will buy ANY book by Laura Kinsale because I need to have one of her books with me at ALL TIMES. She is so re-readable!
I think I’d buy one of the HaBO books, first. Which one, I can’t begin to guess—I’m becoming addicted to checking the comments and writing down titles. 😀
Choices, choices… assuming I don’t get my e-reader for a few weeks yet… I’d go with Sherrilyn Kenyon’s soon to be released book – No Mercy. Or maybe MaryJane Davidson’s new one Undead & Unfinished or maybe the new Jennifer Cruise… or maybe I need to think about that some more.
Some many choices and sooo little reading time but I would choose The Passage by Justin Cronin. A reviewer list it as a grand mash up of literary and supernatural. Whatever sounds like great fun!!!
The first book that I would download would be Mockinjay, because I have been trying to be very patient while waiting for this book. Well, its not working I need that book NOW! and the waiting is not getting any easier.
I’d go with The Other Boleyn Girl. It’s got romance and history, so you feel like you actually learned something by reading fiction.
It would have to be “Jane Eyre” which I read several times a year. When Mr. Rochester talks about the cord of communion being snapped if Jane were to cross the sea to Ireland…be still my heart.
I would have to go with something really really trashy. Something I wouldn’t want to be caught with a hard copy of in case I die before I can offload all my smut.
I’d get the new Parasol Protectorate book coming out at the end of this month, Blameless. Some instant gratification would be great after being left on a cliff hanger.
I am a “Historical Romance Junkie” which drives all of my girlfriends crazy! But that’s me. I love them and read just about everyone that comes out. I guess to finally “break my cherry” ha… ha… it would be appropo to download “Eat, Pray Love” if I were to win!
First book I would buy would probably be The Time Travelers wife because I’d gift this to my mum! She’s been reluctant to try an ereader, and yet she is always reading and has been eyeing up my reader ever since I got it.
I know it’s the cost that is putting her off owning her own, she got made redudant last year, and lost pretty much most of her pension in the huge market crash.
I told her I would send her my paperback copy of Eat Pray Love to read. Could you imagine her surprise if she gets this package instead? OH MY!
OMG that cover is drool worthy. I Die! This win would make my dd so happy as I would give her mine and get a shiny new one. Wheeeee!!!
But to pick my first download is nail biting and making me sweat, like for reals. The book that comes to mind for my first download though would be my mother’s favorite that I still have not read but have seen the movie countless times….
Gone With The Wind. Good luck to all the entrants. Ha! Entrants that sounds funny.
My first book would either be “Lover Mine”, since I haven’t gotten to read it yet, or “No Mercy” by Sherrilyn Kenyon. And yes, I <3 my crack books.
I’d propably go with Outlander as the first. But as the title “first download” is of course determined only by a matter of seconds, many many more books would be put on the reader immediately thereafter. ;D
First book(s) would be the Fast Track series by Erin McCarthy, you’ve made them sound like a must read. Thanks for the chance at an awesome giveaway!!
I would load anything by Mercedes Lackey.
Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery. Soul food!
The first book on there would probably be Gail Carriger’s Blameless, or all of the library ebooks I’ve been meaning to read.
I would buy an Ellen Hopkins book!
First book would be Crank and then Tricks by Ellen Hopkins because you’ve got me all fired up about censorship now.
Hmmm…I’ve only fairly recently learned about the awesomeness of Georgette Heyer (thanks to stumbling across this blog), so I think I would go with the next Heyer on my list, Frederica. I am reliably informed there is a hot air balloon involved. And a dog.
The first book I’d put on my reader would be one of Ellen Hopkins’ books. I have never read anything by her (as of now), but after reading the post about her censorship, I’m definitely interested in supporting her work (especially being a science and history dork and having to deal with the censorship/omissions/shame that happen thanks to similar people and policies involved with the teen lit fest). Second would be be “Promise me tomorrow” by Leigh Michaels because it sounded adorable and sweet (and who doesn’t love a man who can cook?)!
Ooohhh, zomg. That really depends! When would I get said reader? If this week, then Mockingjay. If next month, then the last Nora Roberts when it comes out. Otherwise, I still haven’t read Carly Phillips, Kiss Me if you Can. So it just DEPENDS on when I would GET this wonderful piece of awesomeness.
I would start with Jane Eyre, Austen’s library, Anne of Green Gables series, Bujold, Sayers and Heyer as well as some other classics but quickly start filling it with new releases.
If I won, I’d download…
Something old: Backlists of Georgette Heyer, Laura Kinsale, and Susan Carroll
Something new: Gail Carriger’s Blameless and Susanna Fraser’s The Sergeant’s Lady
Something borrowed: ebooks from the library
For something BLUE! (I do love that cover…)
Probably The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.
I would buy Lisa Kleypas. I love her backlist, and read one of her newer paperbacks, and am hooked!
Then I would put Julia Quinn also on auto buy.
I’d put Lord of Scoundrels on that sucker first thing. 🙂
