Proof of Joy and Absurd Humor in the World

From today’s Publisher’s Marketplace: a book deal for LOL Cats? But of course!

    KITTY.

My baby girl just had surgery yesterday, and is now sporting the oh-so-fashionable shaved belly look.

Poor widget. They took out a giant bladder stone, and now she has to slink around like a mangled poodle until her fur grows back.

I need to make a LOLcat for her. I CAN HAS PERCOCET?

  2. sara says:

That’s my friend Kate! OMG! We are so excited. Tonight: We can has beer?

  3. Kcfla says:

I was just over at the apple site. For any of you that have an I-Phone, you can get a LOL cat-a-day via their Web Apps.

  4. SB Sarah says:

Great. Another reason for me to lust forlornly after an iPhone.

  5. Chicklet says:

I’m only sort of ashamed to admit I want to buy that book liek woah.

  6. Michele says:

My cat has many LOL cat moments. I just haven’t had my camera in hand to capture them.

    Darn.

    >>I’m only sort of ashamed to admit I want to buy that book liek woah. <<

Ditto.  I think that’s one of the few P.M. deal reports that made me think ‘Ooh, I gotta buy that when it comes out!’

I want a LOLcat calendar, too- like an actual printed month-by-month one.  Is there such a thing already does anyone know?

  8. SonomaLass says:

Yay for LOLcats!  Some days that’s the only thing my teenager and I can agree on.

  9. Stewie says:

Love the website.  Want an i-phone.  There’s a daily calendar called Bad Cat which is hilarious, and another funny website, called mycathatesyou.com.  Too funny!

  10. I’m getting my LOLcat fix in a daily download, but this book may be a “must have”.

I still haven’t figured out what it is about LOLcats that I love, but I do loves me some.

  11. Kaz Augustin says:

Is a printed book really the best medium for LOLCats? I mean, I love ‘em, but it’s such a communal experience that, at best, a book can only give a small snapshot at an historical point in time. (Roughly two years ago, right?)

Is this anything more than sheer money-grubbing merchandising? Which is why there’s a tiny ‘ick’ factor for me upon reading the news. Then again, if those Blue Day, etc., adult picture books sell, then I suppose this one will too. And we all know that that is the bottom line.

  12. charity says:

I’m with Kaz.  I see up thread that there are a few of you that can’t wait to spend your money on this book and that’s awesome and I’m sure the bloggers are thrilled.

    But…

lolcats are most fun when they are a surprise or when it’s the Caturday thread at fark.com.  People post un-captioned pictures of their cats (and other animals) and other people caption them.  It’s interactive fun and most importantly, it’s free.  Why would I want to pay for something that’s already free?

I know you guys got a book deal. Are you only going to fill it up with your blog posts?  The answer’s no, right?  Because you recognize that your biggest potential buyers HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT.

Maybe the lolcats book will have pictures that I haven’t seen but I doubt the book will be mostly pictures I haven’t seen (or pictures I couldn’t see if I went to their website).

My opinion, the book will be a waste of money.
