Romance for Toddlers?

I was looking around on Amazon.com at sales rankings for Michelle Styles, and found this – Historical Romance – Board book?! Like the kind I read to SB Freebird so he can chew the book and get a well-rounded multi-sense reading experience? Romance board books?!

Dude. That’s awesome. I’m sure it’s a goof but still, I’m so amused, I’ll giggle for the next hour.

  1. I dunno, exposure to too much mantitty at an early age could warp little Freebird for life.  Or confuse him if he’s nursing.

When you think about it what’s the difference in the basic plot of your romance novels and a Disney movie? It’s only been a matter of time until they finally came together.

  3. Maybe it’s for ladies who get so into the story, they want to literally sink their teeth into the hero.

  4. Would you like to know what the Romance Board book really is? It isn’t a toddler book!

Mills & Boon, the UK branch of Harlequin, releases its books in this board book/hardback format, primarily for the library market in the UK. They also release a large print version in a board book, which is generally available online for the North American market. The board book binding is something you would recognize when you saw it—years ago, my son had a series of abridged Classics bound this way. It is an inexpensive way to produce a hardback book, but sturdier than a paperback would be.

So this is actually a good thing, for both the readers and the authors.

Your example, Michelle Styles books (and mine – I write as Diane Gaston for Mills & Boon Historicals) are each released in three different ways.

    Cheers!
    Diane

Another brilliant marketing ploy to ensure a strong demographic………..

  6. —Mommy, what’s this word?

    —Never mind, dear.

  7. DS says:

Ah, a pictoral cover?  Does it have the laminate that I so used to like to peel off as I read Black Beauty?

  8. Perhaps, DS. It does have a picture on the cover and it is shiny.
