Congrats to JMC for correctly guessing today’s Guess that Lonely Heart. The answer was the purplest book I’ve ever read, Blaze Wyndham by Beatrice Small. This book was such a trip I can still remember the names of Blaze and her sisters (Mary Blaze, Mary Blythe, Mary Bliss, Mary Delight, etc.) and I wish I could replace that knowledge with where I left my car keys.

It’s scary how some purple prose really sticks with you, isn’t it? I read Blaze Wyndham early in my romance-reading career, in stealth, whenever I could nab it from my grandmother’s bookshelf when I visited her house. I’ve long since forgotten the titles, authors and characters of many better books, but BW I clearly remember.
I suuuuck at remembering titles and authors, to say nothing of major plot points. I was once convinced I’d read a romance that was really the plot of a Garth Brooks song, and I couldn’t figure out who wrote it.
