Gift Guide 2019: Happy Shopping, Everybody!

It’s time, it’s time! Yes, Halloween isn’t until tomorrow, but I typically post the Gift Guides on Wednesdays, so we’re starting a day early this year. Hooray! In each Smart Bitches Gift Guide, I post links to different items that we love, or find useful, or give as gifts, or, really, just think you might like either as an item for your wish list or for your holiday shopping. Some of the links are affiliate coded, so if you use them, we may earn a commission – and if you don’t use them, that’s totally cool!

Important! If you have ideas for the gift guide, I want to hear from you! Email me your ideas at sarah@smartbitchestrashybooks.com. I love shopping with you each year. It’s so fun.

Let’s get started! I’ve been collecting ideas for a few months now, so here’s our first collection!

Superwoman Floating Bookshelf: $27

A black metal cutout of a superhero woman with a cape flying while appearing to hold a stack of books aloft

I could put two or three of these in my office. There’s also a sideways one for existing shelves, also $27:

And of course there’s a Superhero one, too!

❤❤❤

This was one of our favorite finds when we had younger children, and I’ve given a few to friends who have toddlers and young people: Kaboost Chair Booster, $40

Green plastic Kaboost hugs legs of a chair and lifts it 4 off the ground so smaller people can sit at the table

Instead of strapping a booster seat to a chair, this lifts the chair itself either 3.75 or 4.5″ up. It’s very sturdy, it doesn’t slip, and it worked perfectly for our children until they got to be all taller than me and no, I don’t resent that at all, not really.

❤❤❤

Now that everyone’s at the table, wanna make smores?

Chicago Smores Maker, $50

White ceramic smores maker with forks, a small sterno oven and trays for supplies

There are a few smores makers available in different places, some that plug in but get negative reviews because they don’t get hot enough. I liked this one because it could accommodate any 2.5 oz. chafing fuel, and because it’s small, neat, and adorable. And now I want to eat smores for lunch.

But if that option doesn’t work for you, there’s also a Sterno-branded one that is $24:

❤❤❤

Perhaps you need some reading glasses, or some wine to go with your smores, or both?

Kindly Go Away I’m Reading Wineglass, $16

A stemless wine glass that says Kindly go away I'm reading

I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie Wineglass, $16

A stemless wineglass etched with I like big books and I cannot lie

Or, if you need a full-color extravaganza for your reading and wine:

Lolita Designs Book Club Wine Glass, $26

Designs by Lolita Book club wine glass painted in multiple colors with books on shelves and phrases like I need a page turner so I can drink my wine

What about you? Any items you’re excited to give or receive this year? Please share! Or, if you have ideas for the gift guide, or you want to tell me about an Etsy store or catalog you adore, please email me your ideas at sarah@smartbitchestrashybooks.com.

  1. Anna says:

I just have to say that if you have an oven or toaster oven, you ALREADY HAVE A SMORES MAKER! Just set out pairs of graham crackers on a tray, with chocolate on one side and marshmallow on the other. Put that under a broiler or just in the toaster over for a minute or so and voila!

(The realization that I could make smores at home anytime I wanted was a game changer)

  2. Kareni says:

Sarah, will your children read this column? If yes, they might purchase a Kaboost Chair Booster for YOU.

  3. denise says:

    great ideas

  4. Katie says:

OMG I need that chair booster for my 2 year old!

  5. Jennifer Vekert says:

Dude, if you have an unscented candle and bamboo skewers you have s’more capabilities. When bff’s last visit got extended due to airport fuckery (guys they misplaced a plane) I busted out the mini marshmallows, aforementioned fire supplies, graham crackers and the chocolate stash. Except I didn’t have proper s’mores chocolate so we had to make do with dark chocolate that had poprocks in it. A+ recommended.

  6. AJ says:

A gas cooktop makes smores just fine and it smells better than sterno fuel.
Stemless wineglasses with amusing things etched on them are always a good present though 😀
