The summary: Special FBI operative Samantha Trudeau's unique psychic abilities help her catch the most elusive criminals. They also put her in the path of a sadistic adversary when she discovers she's actually working for a rogue cell-and into the confidence of a handsome journalist with his own potentially dangerous secrets.

And here is Carrie's review:

Ladies and gentlemen, we have…amnesia!  True Shot is a fun thriller with some good snarky humor and a great male lead.  The plot moves quickly, the speed of the romance (three days) is both lampshaded and well justified, and the main couple has good chemistry together.  After reading a succession of books in which the romance was the weakest element, it was enjoyable to read something where the romance was the strongest part of the story.  I was rooting for Sam and Mac from the start and got all swoony at the end.  Mac is a great “nice guy” character, and although the book has a lot of dark and violent stuff, the occasional humor keeps things from being depressing.

I'm giving the book a B- for two reasons.  First, I find it irritating that Sam, who is supposed to be kick-ass with or without amnesia, is placed in a position of being dependant on a man to save her over and over again.  She's pretty weepy for a spy.  Secondly, the whole premise is pretty over the top, and riddled with plot holes and clichés.  At one point the villain makes a big speech in which he gloats and reveals all his clever plans, and Sam actually says to the villain, “You can't possibly think you'll get away with this”.  Despite, or maybe because of, the cheese factor, this was a fun and successfully romantic read.

Yes, but was a mustache twirled?

  2. CarrieS says:

Not literally, but he comes so close that I kept seeing the twirling of the mustache taking place in my head.  It was very distracting!

Ufortunately, the cover for this book kills it for me- I immediately thought, “Is she picking a wedge?” before I noticed the gun.
