The Texan's Bride - Linda Warren - HER shirt is undone and half off and so is his! Awesome. This review was written by Marika. This story was nominated in the Best Contemporary Series Romance category.

The summary:

Sheltered her entire life, Jessie Murdock has rarely gotten her way. Until her dying father makes a deal with Cadde Hardin. Cadde will get shares of Shilah Oil on one condition—marry Jessie. In love with him for years, Jessie doesn't hesitate to sign the papers. But she didn't sign up for a completely absent husband.

Now Jessie has a counter offer. She'll give Cadde controlling interest of the business if he'll give her a baby…the natural way. Only he has a few caveats of his own. When life refuses to follow their written plan, Jessie and Cadde have to decide which is more important: their unspoken love or the family business.

And here is Marika's review:

The Texan's Bride has everything in it, love, passion, secrets and a hero and heroine worth rooting for in the end.  I loved hearing Cadde remember with fondness about his friendship with the Belle sisters in High Cotton, TX.

Cadde Hardin is either the most patient man in the world or the most hardheaded.  When he went into the agreement with Roscoe, he never once thought about why Jessie went through with it.  For over eighteen months, they lived apart, only seeing each other at board meetings.  Only when he loses her does he realize what she means to him and how much he loves her.

Jessie Murdock has been sheltered all of her life by her overbearing father and housekeeper.  She grew up without a mother and never questioned why.  She went into the agreement with her eyes wide open because she is in love with Cadde.  When she finally has enough with Cadde and wants a real relationship, she is unprepared for the passion and the heartbreak that will follow.

I cannot say enough about The Texan's Bride.  Ms. Warren brings two unlikely characters together as they fight against each other and ultimately fight for each other's love.  Ms. Warren handles some of the tougher issues with Cadde and Jessie with a deft hand and emotional depth.  I cried when they cried and felt the love between them in the end.  Ms. Warren has always tackled some major issues in her books but it is never heavy handed or preachy.

Ms. Warren definitely deserves her RITA nomination for The Texan's Bride.  She covers all the bases that I like in a romance and I encourage you to read the entire series and check out her other series, as well.

What I liked about the book:  The honest emotions that Cadde and Jessie had for each other.  They were stubborn and sometimes hardheaded but in the end, they truly did love each other.

What I did not like about the book:  I thought that the caretakers at the house and even her best friend were a bit heavy handed and smothering.

Sensuality:  Medium

Grade:  A

Thanks Kary.  🙂  I’m still smiling.

  3. Suzette says:

Great review, Marika! I’m so thrilled you loved this one too! I think that the emotional honesty of the story is what truly sets it apart for me. Can anyone recommend any other titles by this author?

  4. Arloa says:

I’m assuming the hero’s name is pronounced to rhyme with “made,” but because of the two Ds, I can’t help but hear “cad” (to rhyme with add) in my head. Not the most auspicious name association.

  5. Marika Weber says:

Here are the other brothers books:

    Chance-The Texan’s Secret-book 1
    Kid-The Texan’s Christmas-book 3

The sisters/friends that I mentioned here are their books and they are wonderful.

    The Belle’s of Texas:

    Caitlyn’s Prize
    Madison’s Children
    Skylar’s Outlaw

Check out her American Romance books, too.  You can actually get one free at http://tryharlequin.com.  Once Upon a Cowboy is the title and its a hoot to read.

  6. Marika Weber says:

It does rhyme with “made”.  🙂

Okay, I’m hooked, and luckily the LinkIn libraries associated with mine have all three of the Texans books. Would I like to reserve? Why, yes, yes I would.

I’d thank you, but geez, my reserve list at the GBPL is already gossip worthy with the librarians.
