The summary: Fifteen years ago, Garret Sorensen's family, trust, and heart were destroyed when Thea Celik betrayed him and married his brother. Now they are divorcing. Garret's ready to finally mend his relationship with his brother. But being back in Newport, Rhode Island, triggers a lot of memories-all leading back to Thea. Thea's not ready to let go of the Sorensens-even if it means being around Garret. As they cautiously circle around each other-finding themselves drawn together-they realize following their hearts could cast them adrift.

And here is Karyn's review:

I wanted to love Slow Dancing on Price’s Pier, by Lisa Dale, or even like it a lot, I just couldn’t.

The flashbacks didn’t tease and entice like foreplay, they nudged and annoyed like someone sitting behind you on an airplane that bumps and kicks your seat constantly.  I found myself saying more than once, “For God’s sake, get to the point.” And for all the dramatic build up, the “ah ha” moment was fairly benign and completely predictable.

That being said, the scenes are very well written.  I envisioned them all beautifully in my mind.  The characters were enjoyable, well described and developed.  On occasion I wanted to throttle them for their obvious stupidity, but that’s how I feel about real people too.  And I did like the chapter beginnings that gave interesting facts about coffee.  I liked how the tidbits tied in with the direction of each chapter.

The romance was okay.  The platonic love was described more satisfactorily to me than the passionate love.    I had a better sense of who Jonathan was than I did for Garret.    Yes, he was a smooth talking playboy who held his emotions at arms length because he was embittered by heartbreak.  But I wanted more growth from him.  For all his torment and hatred, he surrendered rather quickly, and without much self-scolding, which didn’t ring completely true.

Would I re-read it? No, but I would give it to my mom to read.  All things considered, I grade this a B-.

I have this book on my tbr shelf.. I read another one of her books and I could not finish it… I got through maybe four chapters, and then I had enough…. But I heard good things about his book, and I am going to try to read this one. Hopefully I will have better luck with this one.

I think that’s a great standard – would you give it to your mom to read?
