Book CoverPlot Summary: Maddie Moore’s whole life needs a makeover.

In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington.

Starting over won’t be easy. Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too.

The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes-and mouth-are making it hard for her to remember that she’s sworn off men. Even harder will be Maddie’s struggles to overcome the past, though she’s about to discover that there’s no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.

And here is Libraryaddict’s review:

The only other books by Shalvis I remember reading were her firefighter Harlequin Blaze ones and Get a Clue, which didn’t really work for me.  But I had a Sony giftcard I vowed to use on Agency-priced books (which I usually avoid except for must-have-on-day-of-release-favorite-authors) and the blurb for this sounded good, so I bought it.  Even then the book languished a bit in my TBR pile.

Why, why, why did I think I didn’t like Jill Shalvis books?

This book had a lot of humor and a wonderful romance.  I absolutely loved the first three quarters.  It gets a bit bogged down in the last part and it irked me that the heroine got so mad at the hero without real cause.  Although that was a bit of a letdown, I still enjoyed the book overall and look forward to reading the next one.  Not sure about book three as so far I don’t really like the youngest sister. But I was intrigued by the short glimpses of the guy who will obviously be her hero so I will try to keep an open mind.

Since reading this one, I’ve been on a mini-glom.  I‘ve read her Wilder Adventures trilogy and Aussie Rules.  And I have 5 more of her books in my TBR pile.  I’m trying to space them out a bit to avoid author burnout, but she’s definitely on my auto-buy list now.

I don’t usually assign my books grades, but I would give this one a B+.

I never get sick of Jill’s writing. Sexy, funny, emotional is a great combo. I actually love the chemistry with smart mouth Chloe and staid cop Sawyer but I’m a rebel.

  2. Carin says:

I enjoyed the 2nd book in this series just as much as the first, and I’m really looking forward to the 3rd.  I think Shalvis does simple (not suspense, no villian character) contemporary really well.

  3. Diva says:

Yay! This sounds right up my alley. I can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the great review!

  4. Kathleen says:

My library doesn’t have this book, alas, but I’ve read all the Shalvis that they do have, and even when she’s not on her game she’s definitely above average.

  7. Jules says:

I loved the first two books in this series and can’t wait for the third. Like Mary G., I love the chemistry between the smart mouth sister and the taciturn cop. The Wilder series was also excellent. Shalvis is a definite auto-buy for me, with the exception of the suspense novels, and that’s only because I don’t care for the genre. For all I know, the suspense novels Shalvis has written are just as fantastic as her contemporary romances.

  8. Cakes says:

I really loved this book, too! Can’t WAIT for Chloe and the cop! I don’t usually read the teaser chapters at the end of other books, but I went straight to this one and gobbled it up!

    Woot!  Happy the book won.
