Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast

95. An Interview with Kate Noble and Kate Rorick

Sarah interviews Kate Noble and Kate Rorick, who are conveniently the same person, about her upcoming historical romance, The Game and the Governess, and her upcoming novel, The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet, which is connected to The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. We talk about the adaptable fluidity of Pride & Prejudice and other classics, and about her current work writing for an upcoming television series that sounds really, really cool. Plus, we ask the question that confounds us all: is July 22nd in July, or in August? Only publishing knows!

A note! Jane and I are working on a podcast episode all about book recommendations for young readers! So if you have suggestions, please call in, email us, yell out the window, whatever. We want to know what books the young people in your world are loving and might recommend to other readers.

Here are the books we discuss in this podcast:

Book Pride and Prejudice Book The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet Book The Librarian - Quest for the Spear DVD

Book Law & Order Criminal Intent Book Compromised Book The Summer of You

Book The Game and the Governess Book Please Ignore Vera Dietz Book Lady Windermere's Lover

Book Eleanor & Park Book Fangirl Book Yesterday's News

The show Kate is currently writing for is The Librarians, and you can read more about it at TVLine.

We also talk about the current retelling of Emma, called Emma Approved.

Book One NIght with a Quarterback

Our podcast sponsor, InterMix, would like you to know about One Night with a Quarterback by Jeanette Murray.

A one-night stand shouldn’t go into overtime…

She’s daddy’s little girl…or she would have been, had he known she existed. Cassie Wainwright thought her father—head coach of the Santa Fe Bobcats—ignored her purposefully. Come to find out, he had no clue she’d ever been born. Now Cassie is determined to meet the man who’s always been missing from her life. Her mother warns her, being the long-lost daughter of a well-known NFL coach won’t be easy, but Cassie’s determined to stick it out.

And before her life turns upside down, she wants one more night of fun.

Starting quarterback for the Santa Fe Bobcats, Trey Owens is tired of being in the limelight. Lucky for him, the beautiful brunette he meets at the club isn’t a local. She has no idea who he is…and she’s down to party.

Tomorrow, Cassie will think about her father. Tomorrow, she’ll think about her future. But tonight is for herself and the hottie she found on the dance floor. It’s a match made in heaven—if only for a night…

This hot title is available for download June 17, so look it up!

    This was fantastic! I am SO excited about Kate’s upcoming books (and TV show).

    Heather S says:

    I’m not really a fan of Kate’s books – her style just doesn’t work for me, which, hey, it happens, right? – but I think the Lizzie Bennet book can help bridge that gap. I enjoyed it so much – and have you guys seen the two extra videos updating us on the adventures of Lizzie and Darcy and crew?

    “Oh God don’t read that book, everything’s gonna kill you!” I am just at that part in the Podcast, and I am literally laughing as I type this; holy SHIT that was hilarious!

    @Jacqueline:

    Isn’t it so true though? EVERY OTHER ANSWER to a question in that book is, “And if X Y and Z go wrong, you’re gonna diiiiiiiiiie.

    Samantha says:

    I went out and bought Fangirl based on this podcast, tore through it insanely fast, moved on to Eleanor and Park (which I’m concerned broke me a little), and am now stuck.  What else is there that’s like this?

    Lea says:

    I just started listening to your podcasts, I think this was my second one, I really enjoy hearing about authors I’m not familiar with. I love P&P, so of course I am adding this book to my TBR pile. Thanks!

    @Sarah

    *Dies laughing!* You’re so right, Sarah! I mean, I don’t KNOW because I haven’t procreated as of yet but from what I’ve read in that book from my friends, freakin’ A! Talk about pants full of terror shits!

    Heh.

    In the past decade or so I’ve heard often about how horrible What to expect when you are expecting is, and yet, when I was pregnant with my eldest, four thousand or so miles away from family and pre-email (yes, the dark ages), it was the one thing that reassured me everything would be fine.

    No doubt about it, every reader reads a different book when they read the same book.
