Dear Bitches, Smart Authors Podcast

58. Buying Reviews and Gaming the System, Plus Books We’re Excited About

Sarah and Jane are back, this time talking about buying reviews and gaming the book recommendation and sales system. We talk about why authors might purchase reviews, and about the recent allegations that others have, even without proof. We also discuss why buying reviews can be a lucrative choice for someone trying to find their audience. Jane draws an apt parallel between authors buying reviews and athletes using performance enhancing drugs – and we try to figure out what this means for readers.

Then we talk about two books we're each really excited about that come out on 1 October 2013.

Here are the books we talk about in this episode:

Book Stir Me Up - Sabrina Elkins Book The Rosie Project - Graeme Simsion Book Something Like Normal - Trish Doller

Book All of You - Christina Lee

InterMix Books, our podcast sponsor, would like you to know about All of You, the emotional and sexy New Adult romance from debut author Christina Lee.

Nursing student Avery Michaels wants nothing to do with dating—she’s perfectly happy single.  Privy to too many of her mother’s bad decisions and even worse taste in boyfriends, all Avery can handle is a string of uncomplicated hookups whenever the mood strikes.

When she meets smoking hot tattoo artist Bennett, she wants him—for just one night. But he won’t accept a no-strings-attached arrangement. He lives by a straight-laced code of values based on his own troubled upbringing.

Bennett sees something special in Avery and he wants more from her. Way more. As Avery wrestles with her emotions for Bennett, danger and tragedy force them to open up to each other. And Avery must face the terrifying realization that she wants more from him, too.

So she needs to make a choice—let Bennett go or finally let him in.

Don’t miss All of You by debut author Christina Lee, available now for download from InterMix wherever ebooks are sold!

Fun podcast. Jane’s dog’s barking set my dog to barking, too. Rewind doesn’t work so well, so there was a good 5 minutes I listened to twice.

I have just listened to both this podcast and the previous two. Sarah – I was in the audience for your session at the Melbourne Writers Festival with Marjorie Liu and I really enjoyed it.  Secondly I want second the recommendation for The Rosie Project.  I am about two thirds through the audio book and I was laughing out loud on the train on the way home from work while listening to it. But on a more serious note I have a teenage son with Aspergers so I find the descriptions of the main character’s thought processes really interesting.  Thanks for the podcasts and for making it to Melbourne.
