56. An Interview With Awesome Australian Readers

After my session at the Melbourne Writers Festival, I found myself hanging out in the festival area with a few readers and a book seller — an altogether awesome group of people who were nice enough to stand still while I asked them nosy questions. I asked them each who they are, what they do, what they're reading, and why they're awesome.

The sound is a bit uneven (I'm sorry!!) and I apologize for that. The handheld recorder was struggling with the location, the wind and the different voices, so I am sorry for the odd quality. That said, I wanted to share with you the discussion of some excellent romance fans in Australia.

Thank you to the lovely ladies who hung out and subjected themselves to my interviewing.

Here are some of the books we talk about during this podcast (get ready – this is a long list!):

Book Sarah Mayberry - Her Favorite Rival Book Jennifer Echols - Going Too Far Book Graffiti Moon - Cath Crowley

Book Jellicoe Road Book Looking for Kelibrani - Melina Marchetta Book Saving Francesca - Melina Marchetta

Book Zoe's Baby - Alison Roberts Book A Lady Most Willing

Book At the Duke's Wedding Book Kate Noble - The Summer of You Book The Trouble with Flirting - Claire Lazodnik

The music you're listening to was provided by Sassy Outwater. This is Caravan Palace, and this track is called “Cotton Mouth,” from their album Panic in the USA, available at Amazon, iTunes, and wherever you like to buy music.

Book Deception Cove This podcast is brought to you by Jove, publisher of New York Times bestselling author Jayne Castle’s newest paranormal romance, Deception Cove, available wherever books are sold:

As a light-talent, Alice North has the rare ability to make things disappear, including herself—a gift that comes in handy during her magic act with her dust bunny Houdini.

Business mogul Drake Sebastian is day-blind, since his sight was nearly destroyed in a lab accident. But he’s the one man who can see Alice when she disappears—and he needs her.

On Rainshadow Island, two dangerous Old World crystals are missing, igniting a paranormal storm. Drake thinks Alice is the key to finding them, and proposes they head there, but only after a Marriage of Convenience.

Alice’s honeymoon on Rainshadow is guaranteed to be memorable, as the island—and the passion between her and Drake—is about to explode…

I’ve been a longtime reader and lurker, and I was so sad I couldn’t go to the Writer’s Festival to see you Sarah! But I’m so glad I got to hear this podcast, because it made me feel a bit like I was there! And I get so aware of just how Australian our accents are compared to your accent 😛

I 100% second the recommendations for Melina Marchetta, she’s an incredible author, she took me all throughout my teens and is still an author I turn to now in my early twenties.

Also really loved all the recs for Australian romance writers, I feel like I’ve got so much more reading to do now!

  2. Kaetrin says:

I totally want to read that book about the couple who go invisible by having sex and having to have sex to escape dangerous situations.  That would be made of win!

  3. Kat says:

Penises and orgasmic super powers! I’m so sad I missed MWF. 🙁 And yes, I want to read that book, too!

  4. lakaribane says:

I am really intrigued by the Batman reference at 9:14. Any chance for a link? TIA!

  5. Jen says:

@lakaribane here is a GIF set of the Batman video I was referring to (it also has a link to the video too, which you must then watch!): http://dumblydore.tumblr.com/post/61090363789/while-all-the-boys-can-always-save-the-day-no-one
