Kat from BookThingo organized a tea to welcome me to Australia, and I sat down with her afterward to talk more about reading, reviewing and romance readers in Australia. She also shared some authors and book titles she was most excited about, particularly Australian authors.

Hi Guys, Really enjoyed the interview. As an aussie completely disagree regarding the expectations of romance (or my expectations anyway) – I expect romance to be romance and believe it takes away from Australian authors when they are classed as romance and then as a reader I find the story line to be more family saga/suspense orientated or whatever genre may fit. Despite the writing/story being of a quality if I am disappointed that romance was the genre promised but not delivered then I am hesitant to try the author again and sadly my list of Australian romance authors I enjoy is not very long. Lets hope that changes with time……well done guys, hope you enjoyed Australia Sarah and Kat I will continue to read bookthingo!
Thanks for the intro for Bronwyn Parry! I will be checking her books out. I love a goof romantic suspense in a setting I’m not familiar with. I learn so much from those!
Melina Marchetta!!!! I cannot recommend her highly enough and so love to hear her getting more recognition. I special ordered Quintana of Charyn from Australia because that trilogy is JUST THAT GOOD! Gah!
I finally finished listening to the podcast and I have to ask: Have you read Melina’s books? If not, you totally should because they are AMAZING.
The fantasy series has such a scope and even though the setting and plot are so well planned, the characters is what drives everything forward.
But her YA contemps are like on a league of their own. Each one of them will break your heart at some point or another, but will leave you asking for more.
Oh, and she has this really cool children’s book called The Gorgon in the Gully.
Also, I’m going to check out the Alpha and Omega series since you made it sound so good.

I want to support our local bookstores because some have closed down 🙁 but the prices are so much more expensive than buying it online or ebook. I’ll “splurge” now and then and buy from the stores. I love finding second hand book stores and buying them but Aus second hand bookstores are still pretty pricey…
