31. RWA Interview with Molly O’Keefe and Stephanie Doyle

This is the final interview from RWA. I had two more brief interviews but alas, the background noise made it very hard to distinguish the audio, so I apologize that I can't add them to the podcast. The next time I see WahooSuze, I'm dragging her to a quiet place to chat with the small digital mic.

This interview with Stephanie Doyle and Molly O'Keefe took place on the day of the RITAs, and they were kind enough hot provide Coronas for all. So it's a very relaxed and candid interview. We talk about romance and how it deals with sex and sexuality — and the ways in which romance sex is both powerful and also completely unrealistic and at times utterly bizarre. I also talk to both authors about their books that are coming up, and what unique ideas they're including in the story.

Here are the books we discuss in the podcast:

Can't Buy Me Love - Molly OKeefe Can't Hurry Love - Molly O'Keefe

One Final Step Stephanie Doyle Her Best Worst Mistake - Sarah Mayberry A Lady Awakened - Cecilia Grant

Many huge thanks to Harlequin for sponsoring the podcast. They have things to tell you! Here's one:

  1. StarOpal says:

When you got to the part about heroines all I could think of was this line of I Will Repay:

“Is it love to worship a saint in heaven, whom you dare not touch, who hovers above you like a cloud, which floats away from you even as you gaze? To love is to feel one being in the world at one with us, our equal in sin as well as in virtue. To love, for us men, is to clasp one woman with our arms, feeling that she lives and breathes just as we do, suffers as we do, thinks with us, loves with us, and, above all, sins with us. Your mock saint who stands in a niche is not a woman if she have not suffered, still less a woman if she have not sinned. Fall at the feet of your idol an you wish, but drag her down to your level after that- the only level she should ever reach, that of your heart.”

  2. I just read A Lady Awakened, so I’m looking forward to hearing the discussion!

  3. Can you please increase the volume of your podcasts? I really love listening to them while I’m cleaning and I can’t hear them over just the background noise of my apartment.  I have to put on headphones just to hear everything that is said and this isn’t a problem I have with other podcasts.

Loving the increase of them during RWA and I always enjoy listening!

  4. SB Sarah says:

@Summer: of course! I can try to make them louder. Will pump up the volume a bit on the next one.

  5. Molly says:

My laugh makes me sound like Beavis. I am horrified. That aside – great conversation Sarah! We had a great time.
