Friday Videos Have Suggestions
From Gry, our Norwegian Friday Video Correspondent, comes this commercial from Carefree in Australia about what to name your….well, you’ll see. You can see the full set of very strange ads at their site. I’d like to see all of those used in a romance as soon as possible. Especially glitter cannon. I hope your weekend is perfectly named!

Friday Videos Let the Cows In
From Gry, our Norwegian Friday Videos Correspondent, comes this adorable and slightly long but OH MY GOSH SO CUTE video of a 5 year old who let the cow in. Because sometimes you open the door and the cow comes inside. I think my favorite part is when the mom says, “This is so special. You have no idea how special this is.” I hope your weekend is full of unexpected warm moments.
Friday Videos Love Sweden
As RedHeadedGirl has said, there’s a pretty fierce, thousands-of-years-old rivalry between Norway and Sweden. Looking specifically at the musical exports of Norway in the past few years, we have Ylvis and What Does the Fox Say, which is almost a requirement at any dance party for children under 15 at this point. And there’s Nico and Vinz, also of Norway, who I really like and who got me to thinking I owed all Norwegians a … Continue reading Friday Videos Love Sweden
Friday Videos Like the Visualization of Sound
From Lysa comes this amazing video that shows what sound looks like in various media: Cymatics by Nigel Stanford. There’s also an entire behind-the-scenes post where the equipment and the experiments in the video are explained. As Stanford explains, cymatics is “the science of visualizing audio frequencies,” and the equipment they used is really freaking neat. I hope your weekend is filled with fascinating and wondrous things that make your brain happy.
Friday Videos Like Sweeping Foes with the Dust Pan
This is a bit of a long Friday Video at over 7 minutes, and it’s in Japanese with English subtitles, but it’s terrific. Fix yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy. This one comes from Castiron, who wrote: Hebocon — in spite of the name, not a Jewish SF convention but rather a Japanese robot-building contest for people who are crap at building robots. The parts you want to pay attention to, aside from the gleeful … Continue reading Friday Videos Like Sweeping Foes with the Dust Pan
Friday Videos Miss Robin Williams
PBS Digital Studios animated a never-before-heard interview from 1991 featuring Lawrence Grobel asking Robin Williams about the future, birth, funny faces, comic inspiration, and resolutions. It’s funny and touching and sad (I wish they’d have subtitled it because some of the audio is kind of muddy) but I found it inspiring. I hope your weekend makes you laugh, too.
Friday Videos Like Dear Kitten
These are commercials for Friskies wet cat food. The commercial part is understated and overshadowed by the dialogue that I don’t even care that it’s a commercial. Enjoy. They made me laugh (and sniffle) so hard I had tears in my eyes and salt spots on my glasses. I hope your weekend makes you laugh at all the right times.
Friday Videos Like Pythagoras Switch
Anna Richland forwarded me a link to a long video of Rube Goldberg machines built for a Japanese children’s show called Pythagoras Switch. I didn’t want to embed an 18 minute video – that’s like asking you to get caught at work not working, right? But they are SO COOL. So here’s a short one: And, should you feel like feeding your eyes and brain clever visual candy, here’s the link from Anna, which showcases … Continue reading Friday Videos Like Pythagoras Switch
Friday Videos Like Badass Teddy Bears
From Elyse, via Geeks are Sexy, via io9 comes this short animated film (~2 minutes) about teddybears battling monsters under the bed: Even the storyboards are fascinating: Storyboards from Tyler Novo on Vimeo. I hope your weekend is filled with friends who take care of you, and really, really good sleep.
