Whatcha Reading?

An open book with a field and a tree in the pages against a backdrop of the sky I love hearing what you're reading right now. Not only am I incurably nebby, but my TBR list gets longer because you have good taste in books (dang it).

Right now, I'm both reading and listening to books. I'm reading Never Deal With Dragons by Lorenda Christensen, and even though I'm barely into it, I like the silliness of the opening scene. The heroine, Myrna Banks, is a mediator between humans and dragons, and when the book begins, she's attempting to mediate a dispute between a very pregnant and hungry dragon, and a farmer who is missing several head of cattle. The opening line:

It's amazing how often my day begins with a three-legged dragon and an enraged dairy farmer.

I'm in!

I've also been listening to Darynda Jones' First Grave on the Right read by Lorelei King, and holy crapdamn hell is it awesome in audio. I had some Audible credits to spend before I suspended my membership for awhile, and knew I'd have to drive Baba O'Riley to meet his grandmother during rush hour – meaning me and the Tappan Zee would be hanging out for an hour or so. I forget how much I love driving with audiobooks until I drive with them in traffic. I can't remember where I first saw the recommendation, but after our discussion of good audiobooks after a recent podcast, King does a wonderful job with the narration, and the story as a narrative performance is kickass.

So, what about you? What are you reading this weekend? Are you listening to a book? Share, share! Let's make each other buy books, put books on hold, and otherwise extend the power of our collaborative TBR!
