What Ever Happened To: Alison Richardson

Book Cover Diana writes:

I was happy to see you doing the great public service of helping find authors that seemed to disappear.  Maybe the SBitchery can help find Alison Richardson who wrote the Countess trilogy?

These shorty books are pretty well outside my usual reading comfort zone, but they blew me away with how good they are.  And yet . . . no website?  No publisher profile?  And worst of all – no more books??  I can’t deal.

There is this brief profile on eHarlequin, but alas, I find very little. Anyone have any info?

ETA: 12 January 2012:

Alison Richardson contacted me with a message for all of you:

Hi everybody,

I just came across this old comment thread asking for more information about me, and thought I would chime in with a quick, if belated, update.

I’m actually not an established author, and that short trilogy is the only thing I’ve ever published. I’ve got a few other things in the works – I just sent out another manuscript to Harlequin last week, and have a few more things I was hoping to pitch in the coming months.

It was really gratifying to hear that you guys would like to read more of my stuff!

All the best,
Alison Richardson

Wow, the title and the glowing comment grabbed my attention, so I went and downloaded a sample and now my entire morning is forfeit to reading. This lady is amazing! I can’t believe it’s her first work, the pacing is way too professional. My bet is that Alison Richardson is a pseudonym for an established author, which would be why it’s hard to find more information about her. I wonder who it could be? Because I totally want to read more of her (his?) books. Three isn’t nearly enough.

  2. Ooh, I also really enjoyed this trilogy. The second story was one of my favorite reads of 2009.

    @ Rachel Aaron

I totally agree with you. The pacing, plot, and prose all scream experienced author. I devoured these when they came out and hoped Spice would publish more books like this. They reminded me of some of the better Black Lace titles—envelope pushing sex and characters with solid storytelling—but I’ve been disappointed in their other offerings. Very ho hum.

Wow, these are cheap on Nook right now, I think I’ll download!  But the info online is very sparse.  Should they be read in any order?  Would someone mind giving me an idea of what kind of Romance these are?  How does the level of sexuality compare to other authors?
    Thanks!

eHarlequin shows an Alison Richardson story as part of a Spice Anthology that came out March 2011

  6. @Emily
Yes, read them in order. The stories feature the same couple, who meet and have a (mostly) sexual relationship. I think it’s erotic romance w/ happy ending but the sex isn’t that graphic or kinky IIRC. The heroine is a snob and not sweet or innocent in the least. I loved the wry voice.

  7. robinjn says:

What is the order in which they should be read?

  8. Sally says:

    @robinjn

    The order is:
    1. The Countess’s Client
    2. An Impolite Seduction
    3. The Birthday Present

  9. @robinjn: The story order is:

    1) The Countess’s Client
    2) An Impolite Seduction
    3) The Birthday Present

The story in the Spice anthology is one of the Spice Briefs (can’t remember which, probably the first).

Doesn’t look like she has anything else in the pipeline, at least not from Harlequin. Sorry folks.

    Has anyone considered emailing Harlequinn?
Sometimes they’ll tell you if she’s got another name or moved to another publisher.

  11. Diana says:

Thanks SBSarah so much for posting!!  Too bad the search has dead-ended.  I had the same suspicion that it was an established author.  If said author ever comes across this post . . . . more, please!
