True Romance: Eric and Marian
by SB Sarah | November 18, 2005 | Friday at 8:43 pm | 5 CommentsI love stories of true romance as much as I love the fictional ones. Enjoy and try not to picture the movie version, because over-production would suck all the joy and beauty out of the simplicity of this story.

I haven’t gotten the whole story, but my grandparents were definitely in a similar situation. They were married for over fifty years, and they were still obviously in love up until my grandfather died. If only we could all have that.

Thanks, Sarah. I needed that.

How lovely. My grandparents celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. They still act like sweethearts. We should all be so blessed.

Oh man that made me cry. Anything like that brings me memories of my beloved grandfather, who died four years ago. He met my grandma during the war through letter-writing and it is such a beautiful story. My aunt gave my grandma one of those little books to write in each day of the year about their life together and she loaned it to me last year. She was 4’6” and my grandfather 6’4”. She thought she was useless, her mother made her feel retarded (literally). He thought he was a mutant and he had an incredibly sad childhood. They loved each other SO much, he told her he was beautiful every single day of their life together. They made each other beautiful and just better in every way. It was just as marriage should be and I just feel blessed to have known their marriage and to come from their lineage. You could just feel the love they had for each other, it was so strong.
This is a mess I know, I am totally drugged up on nyquil right now, but damn that made me weepy. As Angela said, we should all be so blessed.

Oh man, Raina, that made ME cry. That’s beautiful. Second only to being in that kind of love is being able to witness it so you know for sure it exists.
