Friday Videos Let It Be

December 24, 2010 | Friday | 14 Comments

Big thanks to Hubby and to his friend Matt for this amazing bizarre video featuring ... well, I’m not actually sure what it’s FOR but it has a LOT of people in it. Just watch it. All six minutes. My two favorite comments, from Matt: “I never wanted it to end,” and from someone on YouTube: “This is what you see before you die.” Someday, you might be in a video for a Norwegian (I think) television station (I think) as a “spaghetti western filmer.” Because that would be excellent and winning awesome. Can anyone tell me what this is?… read more »

Election Day Videos Say Vote

November 02, 2010 | Tuesday | 10 Comments

It’s election day here in the US, as polls open at 6am and television news analysts start hyperventilating all over their new touchscreens as they surf the internet on camera so you can watch YouTube with them and they’ll feel less alone and alienated by the internet. Hey now! You can watch this absolutely bananas piece of PSA on YouTube with me and John Leguizamo right now! I think this is from the 90s but I confess, my MTV/Rock the Vote years get all mashed up in my head. If you’re in the US and you’re a registered voter, please… read more »

Friday Videos Like Shirtless Jumping

August 27, 2010 | Friday | 29 Comments

From Megan, a video of high jumping. Well, men doing the jumping usually performed by horses. And, as Megan says, “These guys are jumping 4-6 ft. without a pole or touching a single jump. Plus they are hot and take off jackets and pants along the way.” HORSEMAN A DRESDEN homme cheval babassUploaded by babass59. I couldn’t find this on YouTube, so I hope this video work for all of you - I believe it’s French. But it’s definitely jumping awesome. Hope your weekend gives you plenty of reasons to jump, shirtless or not!   read more »

Friday Videos Have Chills

June 04, 2010 | Friday | 11 Comments

From Laura Dawson on Twitter: According to the Mashable article, “American composer and conductor Eric Whitacre spliced together nearly 250 submitted YouTube videos to form an online choir” after spreading the word via social media. So truly beautiful it gives me chills. Have a truly amazing weekend. read more »

Email Marketing, Authors, and Possibilities: An Interview

December 01, 2009 | Tuesday | 16 Comments

One promotional feature that many authors use in various ways is email. And I know that there are some who consider the newsletter akin to communication from the devil, and some who adore having author news in a digest format. Some authors email exclusive deals, and some maintain a digital mailing list to sent out alerts about sales and appearances in local stores or writing groups. Email is ubiquitous - most of us have it, so it makes sense to use it, particularly if you’re looking for contact, customer cultivation, and promotion. I was pondering the efficacy of email, and… read more »

Social Networking: On Stage

September 26, 2009 | Saturday | 3 Comments

You never know where the hot topic of social networking will turn up. If it’s not a discussion on Twitter that’s posted to Facebook about either or both (mmmmm, meta) it’s contemporary dance. What now? From the OMGSOCOOL Department: part of the 2009-2010 season at Peak Performances at Montclair State University in New Jersey, Lula Washington Dance Theatre is premiering a new piece called www.connections.2010, which is dance about social networking: Washington’s newest work was inspired by the ever-challenging way people use socially networking the 21st century: Twitter, YouTube and Facebook to be sure! With Washington as its artistic voice,… read more »

Patrick Swayze, Dirty Dancing, and Romance

September 15, 2009 | Tuesday | 61 Comments

Last night when I heard that Patrick Swayze died of cancer at 57, a link went around Twitter from New York reporter Mandy Stadtmillerto the YouTube footage of the final dance scene from Dirty Dancing. I freely admit: I cried while watching it. I know a lot of people looked at the death of Michael Jackson as a loss from their childhood, of a person who was responsible for the soundtrack of their youth. For me, it wasn’t Jackson - it was Swayze, particularly Dirty Dancing. I was 12 when the movie came out, and I wasn’t, if I recall… read more »

Links about Blogging, Social Media and other stuff.

August 16, 2009 | Sunday | 9 Comments

Business Week updated their May 2005 article about blogging to talk about how “Social Media will Change Your Business.” Back in 2005, blogs were the focus. Now blogs are an older method of online communication and marketing, operating alongside photo sites like Flickr, video megalopoli like YouTube, and my personal addiction, microblogging options like Twitter. What I found neat about the article is that, even though I knew about much of the software, I didn’t know about the business adventures that created the blogs of the companies we know of now. Also, I’ve passed this link on to a few… read more »

Lady Jane’s Salon: Video Footage

March 03, 2009 | Tuesday | 3 Comments

I have three videos from last night’s Lady Jane’s Salon, starting with Lauren Willig reading from The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. Note: sound quality is not the most majestic thing in the world. I found it best to lower the volume on the YouTube player, but then adjust the tone and volume of my computer speakers. Sorry for the quality. read more »

Videomo Entries: The Final Group

February 08, 2009 | Sunday | 4 Comments

I intended to post the last of the Videomo entries on Friday, but things stylesheet and whatnot interfered. So here are the last five of the Videomo entries for the Videomo contest. Voting from the Bitchery will begin on Monday and continue through Tuesday, and the winner will be announced on Saturday 14 February. The winning video will be used all up and down the joint, and mugs will be geeked. So without further ado, here’s the final five. read more »
