I have mixed reactions to Tools of Change 2012. One one hand, I attended several sessions that were flush with the data, the graphs, the charts, the multiple interpretations of the data, and the exploration of who exactly is reading books, what they're reading, and how and on what they're reading. This week's Friday Video is a classic, sent by Aziza, and how I missed seeing this, I have no idea. I love The Avengers, and have watched most of them. Emma Peel is amazing in so many respects.
Link!
As Aziza explained in her email, "John Steed and Emma Peel celebrate/demonstrate trope and formula...and look good doing so."
Yes, yes, they do.
Hope your weekend is full of style, rapier wit, fine vintages, and excellent chemistry!

Courtney Milan's "Unraveled," better known as Smite's Story, is on sale now. Unveiled and Unclaimed were both book club selections, and so many readers were clamoring for Smite's story - I had to make sure you knew it was available. Otherwise someone might have smote me. [ AMZ | BN | ARe ]
Also on sale now for $1.99: Teresa Medeiros' Yours Until Dawn. [Kindle | BN & nook]
...
Via many people: Daniel Abraham's Private Letter from Genre to Mainstream - it is sharp and hilarious.
My favorite part: the reply letters in the comments.

Jim L. sent me this video, and mentioned how much he wanted to attend DragonCon someday. I must confess, the sheer number of people would make me want to hide, but after watching this, I was totally charmed by the number of amazing costumed warrior women:

Here on the east coast of the US, we had an earthquake that scared the pants off people and maybe broke some tchotskes, but otherwise, we’re all good. To celebrate, let’s dance:
Shake that link!
Really, I just wanted to boogie, because this is my favorite Belafonte song, and it seemed appropriate for today. There’s a lot of sad and bad news around us, but there is also room to shake it - you know, in a good way. Stay safe!

More than a few of you have emailed me after having gone to see Harry Potter this past week - but not regarding Potter. You’re all talking about this commercial from the previews before the movie: Link? Link! So, what do you think? There’s a whole lineup of “Hail to the V” commercials, with a talking hand that’s snort-worthy the first time you see it. And I’m all for appreciating and celebrating all things vagina. But I was almost disappointed it was for a product I wouldn’t use, and one that I’m suspicious of, since it uses scents to mask…
