As part of Operation Auction, Tessa Dare donated a book trailer video featuring her crafty handiwork and all the toys that weren’t nailed down in her childrens’ bedrooms. Maya Banks bid early and bid often, and was the winner - and the trailer, it is DONE. And it is HILARIOUS. Link? What, of course! LINK! Operation Auction was a community organized and sponsored benefit for longtime romance fan and blogger Fatin, whose husband was killed this past March. Operation Auction was one of many examples of the romance community’s strength and of its heart. High fives to Banks and to…

From Phyl comes this brilliant video celebrating Library Week in Ireland. Hm. Can I come to Ireland? I want to go to the library there! All of them! And, you know, do all those annoying tourist things. Happy Library Week, Ireland! And, not to feature only Ireland, but everyone else: it’s Read an eBook Week, too, from March 6-12. So, now, I want to go to Ireland AND read an ebook. Well, I pretty much want to read an ebook all the time, much like I want to eat Thin Mints and not wear shoes all the time, but I…

If actual physical gifts are not your cup of tea this year, you always have the option of charitable donations in honor of someone, anyone, or everyone. Charities are feeling the pinch as much as anyone in a tight economy, so every tiny bit helps. So while I’ve been doing goofy, silly, and ridiculously bizarre gift ideas, I also wanted to feature a few charitable organizations that I like, and ask which ones you direct donations toward. As Newark Mayor Cory Booker said on the Rachel Maddow show last April, too often we allow our inability to do everything undermine…

I’ve probably linked this video before but this is my favorite Hanukkah song. There’s the Adam Sandler versions, I, II, III, and maybe IV, but this one is my absolute favorite and I wish it was played on the radio. It’s hard to pick a favorite part. Maybe the attacking menorahs. But the BEST part is that the person who made this was making a video for the song with literally no knowledge of Jewish culture or what the song was saying, so there’s some hilarious unintentional comedy - ya mocha, for one. Just remember, whatever you’re celebrating this month,…

From Merry, a video that, as she says, “speaks for itself.” It started speaking to me, loudly, at about 0:18 in.
Where can I buy that shirt? Seriously?!
Have a operatically titty-licious weekend, vinyl or otherwise!

From Megan, a video of high jumping. Well, men doing the jumping usually performed by horses. And, as Megan says, “These guys are jumping 4-6 ft. without a pole or touching a single jump. Plus they are hot and take off jackets and pants along the way.”
HORSEMAN A DRESDEN homme cheval babassUploaded by babass59.
I couldn’t find this on YouTube, so I hope this video work for all of you - I believe it’s French. But it’s definitely jumping awesome.
Hope your weekend gives you plenty of reasons to jump, shirtless or not!

Last night I wandered the 2010 Literacy Signing making a music video. With Ke$ha. Not actually with me but playing on endless loop in my head. It is only fair I share the ear worm with you, right? Thank you to all the authors who let me film them (I’m sorry I could not use all my footage, as some of it was really wonky when I imported it) and who wrote all the lovely books I buy by the truckload every year. And congrats to everyone for raising over $62,000.00 in one night to fight illiteracy. That RULES. (My…

At the Untethered conference, one of the more thought-provoking presentations was from the founder of College Humor, who talked about how and why videos go viral. One of the major factors in encouraging someone to connect with and pass along a video is the “candy corn” factor- that common nostalgia centered on an object, moment, or common experience that you probably haven’t thought about in years. I had a “candy corn” moment earlier today when I was thinking about tv shows that I saw early on which fed my interest in romance, specifically Scarecrow and Mrs. King. This was definitely…
