There, get that out of your head any time soon. HA! Fresh from the dentist, where I had tips put on my canine teeth because I grind them, so I’m extra more VAMPIRE now (WOO!), here’s the publishing news that exploded in my inbox today: First, Harlequin is rebranding, per a letter that was posted on e-Reads, and has a new logo. Plus they are eliminating the “Silhouette” name and consolidating under the “Harlequin”: brand: In April 2011 our Silhouette series will become Harlequin series. As you know, Silhouette Nocturne became Harlequin Nocturne in June of this year. Special Edition,…

It’s like a visit to Wonderland, folks: a photographic tour of some of the best of Heather Osborn’s romance collection. Seriously, it’s like a library of awesome up in here. Hi all, I’m Heather Osborn, editor of the Tor Romance line. But I don’t just edit romance – I’m a life-long fan of the genre. As such, I have amassed quite the collection, one that has followed me across the country from Southern California, to Ohio, and now to New York. Sarah asked me to give you a peek into my collection, so I’ve picked some of the…

After a full weekend of ZOMG on Twitter about the Macmillan/Amazon showdown, where Amazon did the hokey pokey with the buy links for Macmillan authors, I was having a hard time articulating why this didn’t send me into rage and ire. I’m horrified for authors whose books are no longer on sale from what I’m told is the largest independent bookseller in the US, and I’m sorry that people looking for books from Macmillan authors on Kindle will not find them and likely move onto something else. But I’m not angry at one party over another. Mostly I want to…

Heather Osborn, editor at Tor, and also individual of all around general awesome, likes to tweet her reactions to the upcoming Harlequin titles. She sent me the full list so those of you who aren’t on Twitter can enjoy, too. RIPPED! - He who smelt it, dealt it. THE SHARPSHOOTER’S SECRET SON - Proof he wasn’t shooting blanks, I guess. THE SHEIKH’S FORBIDDEN VIRGIN - Spoiler Alert! She’s 8. KEPT FOR HER BABY - But rejected for her sass. PROUD REVENGE, PASSIONATE WEDLOCK - PURPLEY PROSE. HIS HOUSEKEEPER BRIDE - Methinks a male fantasy slipped in when no-one was…

To promote her multiple projects across several genres, particularly the release of Darkness CallsMarjorie M. Liu has created a scavenger hunt of sorts - for a letter that will make you possibly weepy. The first part appeared two weeks ago at Romantic Times, and the second part appeared at Tor.com. We’re fortunate to host the third exclusive part of the letter, and the final installment will be online at Borders and BN.Com - links to come for the last part. The letter is from her urban fantasy Hunter Kiss (Ace Books) series. You won’t be able to find it in…

In Publisher’s Weekly, as I linked yesterday, there’s an article about paranormal romance, and how, to quote the title, the love affair with the supernatural continues. Trouble is, it doesn’t so much continue with me. I’m vampire exhausted. Were’d out. Utterly overwhelmed by the number of books released in a given month and not willing to invest time and mental energy embarking on yet another series with no visible end in sight. So, since Heather Osborn of Tor both (a) sounded smart as crap in the interview and (b) is a friend of mine, I asked her: can you bring…

From my experience with Gail Dayton’s Compass Rose trilogy, I know that Dayton’s hallmarks as a writer are vivid world building, seamless use of the senses in her writing, and some smooth character development. In this new series, she plays with the concept of power and control, and of mastery and slavery in relationships. Amanusa is a magically talented woman who lives on her own in the woods in the late 1800s, precariously “protected” by a local band of rebels in exchange for her healing talents. A man named Jax stumbles out of the woods, bound to her, unable to…

Five words that might save your life: Beware the Chocolate Willy Spread. Anyone else see an erotic suspense novel in the making? She’s trying to hunt down the criminal who poisoned her best friend; he’s the cop who has seen it all… until chocolate-dipped bananas were introduced to the menu. [Thanks to Becky for the link.] The BBC hosts a review of The Jewel of Medina by blogger Shelina Zahra Janmohamed, and it tests me sorely to move past her first sentence without putting my fist through the monitor: The Jewel of Medina is a chest-heaving, brassiere-busting book of outrageously…

If you get your books digital… Gimme an E or I’ll… OK, clearly my cold-medicine addled brain is not going to come up with something clever, but a recent kerfuffle online has revealed a rather interesting facet of the eBook revolution: once a devoted, glomming reader (such as myself) is introduced to the power and ease of the eBook, going back to paper is not as satisfactory. It’s true. I know there are some die-hard paper-lovin’ folks out there, and I’m not knocking your preference, but I know that once I got hooked on having the Kindle-Ade with me all…

Tor publishing, celebrating the whizz-bang woo-dads of its new website (nice job, folks, and congrats on making it through the redesign) is giving away all the novels it offered the last few weeks in one big gift, now through 27 July. Glom hard, glom often folks.
And don’t forget, all the gorgeous art-tastic wall paper is up there, too, including Mr. Super Man-Titty. Hope he’s taller than me and nearby next time it’s raining.
Thanks to Malin for the headsup.

I have a headsup from a publisher that free ebooks will be coming from their hallowed halls very soon, following in the footsteps of Avon’s online freebie of The Duke and I and Tor’s free ebook programs.
But do they help sales of other books? The Oprah/Suze Orman experience says so, since Orman’s book was on the NYT list shortly after the free PDF giveaway, but Simon Owens interviewed a few Tor authors who all said, resoundingly, “Oh, hell yes it does:”

Along with a free ebook every week, Tor offers wallpaper for your desktop in several sizes, including one for the iPhone. Cool!
Even cooler? Check out Captain Spectrum’s um, spectrum, there. I just got new bras and mine are nowhere NEAR that perky. So jealous of Capt. Spectrum’s chestal spectrum. (Also, if you’re shopping for bras and are well endowed like Capt. Spectrum, Fig Leaves is awesome in all sizes and is having a bodacious sale.
Thanks to Rebecca for the spectrum link.

If you haven’t signed up for Tor’s subscription program, prepare ye to enter the dark side of giving away your email address to yet another person. According to SonomaLass, this week’s free eBook is In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker. Sayeth the Lass, “It is the first full-length book of her fabulous Company series, an amazing mixture of science fiction and history, with elements of romance, that I can’t recommend highly enough.” The book has a Wiki page of its own, which signals to me that someone liked the book enough to spend time building a relatively worthwhile…

Free books? Hell, yeah! First, HarperCollins, in addition to posting the first three chapters of Julia Quinn’s next book The Lost Duke of Wyndham, is offering a free read of The Duke and I online as well. There’s a whole “Browse Inside” page for your clicking pleasure, should you wish to start reading. But, wait, there’s more! We’ll sell you the whole seat, but you’ll only need the edge… no, wait. Not Monster Trucks. Books. Even better than monster truck rallies! Tor, who fully embraces the entire monster truck rally economics of twelve trucks for twelve bucks (That’s a buck…
