Scrinnameless, who I call “Scrin” for short, is a 22 year-old geology student who is reading Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Sharing Knife: Beguilement. Bujold! Scrinnameless, who I call “Scrin” for short, is a 22 year-old geology student who is curious about romance, and at my suggestion has taken to reading Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Sharing Knife: Beguilement. Bujold! (snrk) We have an intermission and recap of the book. I’m halfway through the book, so I’m finding it appropriate that I recapitulate my views on the book so far. Scrinnameless, who I call “Scrin” for short, is a 22 year-old geology student who is curious about romance, and at my suggestion has taken to reading Lois McMaster Bujold’s The Sharing Knife: Beguilement. Here we have Chapters 4-10: Chapter 4 In which we find out about malices. And more about Dag. It’s a nice bit of monster-building, the malice. I could go on, but let’s say they’re thieves of life who start out small, learn as they grow, and can get nasty. Inherently evil, one might say. Found out where the title comes from. A few weeks ago, Scrinnameless sent me word of a wonderful used bookstore in Mobile, Alabama. Lois McMaster Bujold gave a Writer Guest of Honor Speech at Denvention 3 on 8 August about her experience as a writer crossing multiple genres, and it was full of awesome, puppies, win, and rainbow ponies. Her experiences with The Sharing Knife and her impressions of how romance and sf play nicely together and compliment one another are fascinating because her perspective is one from which we don’t necessarily see a lot of analysis: Romance and SF seemed to occupy two different focal planes, to steal another metaphor, this time from photography.
