As a rule, I recommend that every carbon-based life form online avoid the comments section of news sites, from newspapers to television stations to local blogs covering the farmer’s market, because the comments are usually overflowing with fresh awful crazysauce. In this case, I recommend everyone read the comments because they restore some sanity and hope for what is a truly disgraceful and frankly stupid news segment. Carina Press executive editor Angela James was on The Marilyn Denis Show this morning, which is a live national broadcast in Canada. Live. Also, national. And LIVE TELEVISION. Wowser! Last night I bumped into a tweet from Linda Holmes at NPR Monkey See about a PBS miniseries that was about to start. So I changed the channel. OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS. Downton Abbey is delicious television! If you’re a historical romance fan, or a historical drama fan, or you really like opulent British houses or early 20th century costumes, or outstanding acting, do yourself a favor and tune in. Big thanks to Hubby and to his friend Matt for this amazing bizarre video featuring ... well, I’m not actually sure what it’s FOR but it has a LOT of people in it. Just watch it. All six minutes. It’s election day here in the US, as polls open at 6am and television news analysts start hyperventilating all over their new touchscreens as they surf the internet on camera so you can watch YouTube with them and they’ll feel less alone and alienated by the internet. Gotta love it when I stick my foot in my mouth! Last night I did an interview with 744 ABC Melbourne about erotic fan fiction. During the interview with Alan Brough, he asked me about why erotic fan fiction so often pairs two characters of the same gender. What I meant to say was that in most countries, popular culture reveals a general discomfort with homosexuality, and that frank portrayals of homosexuality are not common. So imagine you’re a producer for CTV up in Ye Olde Canada, and you have this great idea for a telenovela featuring heavy product placement with Old El Paso, featuring a beautiful woman forced to marry the richest, most evilest evil man in El Paso Viejo. A nice person over on my Twitter feed asked my why I call my Kindle “Sir Kindle the Fusspot.” Well, the short answer is, Sir Kindle is very fussy and requires some delicate care in file transfer and management. I wrote on Twitter over the weekend about a popular song in which Ne-Yo croons lovingly about a woman who is so amazingly attractive because… she pays her bills on time.
