First, I typed up the entry but it didn't go live - my apologies! I think the next technology I'm going to find is voice-activated blogging. "Post, go live, OK SUCCESS!"
Anyway, the winner of a free six-month subscription to Sourcebooks' new "Discover a New Love" community is Karen H Near Tampa.
Congrats Karen H, who is lucky to live near Tampa, since St. Pete Beach and the Tampa zoo are two very awesome reasons to live near Tampa!
And now, Links that are All About the Joy and the Beauty!

Interesting news from Sourcebooks this AM: they're launching an online reading club, "Discover a New Love" for romance fans. For $9.99 per montg for six months (my apologies for the misinformation), members get exclusive discounts off ebooks (up to 40% according to the site), and the books they buy are DRM-free on a trial basis. Plus, each month's membership yields one free ebook from a selection of four. The inaugural books featured are Mairana by Susanna Kearsley, Enraptured by Elisabeth Naughton, Lady Maggie's Secret Scandal by Grace Burrowes, and One Hot Cowboy Wedding by Carolyn Brown. There are four additional…

Tonight at 6pm I’ll be at the Baltimore Book Festival Ladies’ Night talking about Everything I Know About Love, I Learned from Romance Novels. This is awesomely exciting for three reasons: 1. There is Free Wine, y’all. Come drink with me. Me + wine + panel = good times! 2. Free admission! No charge, just come on down. Not that I can give you directions. I have no idea where I’m going. 3. Brand Spanky New Copies of EIKAL! Seriously. Danielle and Lara at Sourcebooks pulled off a minor miracle getting copies of the book to the book festival’s signing.…

Good morning! This post is all about the book I wrote that is coming out 4 October, and where you can pre-order a copy, should you be so inclined. Why Should I Preorder This Book? Well, if you’re at all curious and are on the fence, let me tell you something about EIKAL. I am so proud of this book. I know every author is proud of her books (at least, I hope so) but I am so very, very proud of this one, and I will tell you why. This book is much more than just me talking about…

To celebrate Georgette Heyer’s birthday, Sourcebooks has put their entire digital collection of Heyer novels on sale for $1.99. NICE. Ready to shop? Hope so! I struggled recently with The Grand Sophy, which I read last week, but Heyer’s books are, unquestionably, quite a legacy to the romance community. $1.99 is quite a nice price, too. The books should be at this price from 15-21 August at most major e-retailers, though sometimes there is a delay with switching the price. You may have to check back. Here’s a comprehensive list for you. I’ve tried to find links to many major…

Yesterday was day 1 of BEA, and I took a lot of pictures. I also took my shoes off to walk around part of the time because oh, my GOSH, do your feet get sore traversing the cavern of book booths that is the Javits Center. My day started off with a conversation at the Digital Book World booth, where I was asked about romance readers and digital reading, and because it was on camera, I can guarantee I probably had some sort of smudge on my face. Then I walked past the Kobo booth and got so excited I…

Tune in tonight at 9pm Eastern Time, when we’ll be discussing Susanna Kearsley’s The Winter Sea - or, if you’re Canadian, Sophia’s Secret. I will have to remember to ask which title people liked better. Either way, come on back at 9pm EST when the window below will be hopping with polls, mayhem, giveaways, and some really awesome book discussion. Seriously, I cannot tell you how much I love the book chats. I love hearing what you think of the books. Thank you to AllRomance for being the book club sponsor of excellentness. See you tonight! It was a Kindle freebie on Amazon. It was published last year, so it’s not totally new, but it’s not old school, either. But I have words. I’m finding a whole bunch of “not the usual Old West or Regency England or Victorian England setting” and this one is no different. It starts around 1742 in England- there are several background historical that inform the action and the author does a really good job of tying these in to the reality and the motivation of the characters. First is the house of Hanover and the succession crisis that brought the…

It’s not so much sizzling in northern coastal Scotland in the winter, but this book is amazing for it’s warmth, the strength of the writing, and the story-within-a-story. As I announced in the Book Club Chat last week, our April Book Club pick is Susanna Kearsley’s The Winter Sea. Previously published in Canada as ‘Sophia’s Secret,’ and a nominee for both a RITA and a RNA award, this book is emotional, historically fascinating, rich and worth savoring. Here’s the description: In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled…

We have the Winnahs for our Classic Romance giveaway: First: comment #34 from A.M.K. Also: comment #79 from Becca ETA: You know, two and five are TOTALLY the same number. I misremembered the total number of prizes (DOH) and was kindly reminded that OOPS THREE MORE WINNERS AHOY! (Seriously, this is about as boneheaded an error as I’ve made in awhile. I’ll be savoring this one.) Three more winnahs, drawn from the random integer! AgTigress Beccafoh cayenne (Sorry about that y’all. Seriously. Holy crap.) Congrats to the winners - please email me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOTcom with your names and addresses so…

Yes, yes, it’s the 15th. But awhile back, Hubby and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 15th, rather than the 14th, and not because the candy’s on sale, though that’s a perfectly good reason. So this year, I’m doing something similar: we’re celebrating on the 15th - with vintage romances. I recently had an email from a reader, DM, who found a Laurie McBain title she’d loved years and years ago on sale in the bookstore’s romance section - and she was so very happy to be able to buy a new one, as her old copy was…

I left my desk for an hour today, and came back to find Twitter had exploded with the news that Yes, I can has book deal. I’m going to be writing a book for Sourcebooks for early 2012 titled, “Everything I Need to Learn about Romance, I Learned from Romance Novels.” It’ll be nonfiction, timed for a near-Valentine’s Day release, I think. The book will look at different stages of relationships and how romance novels can serve as guideposts to people navigating normal relationship stuff. One thing that has always ticked me off is the accusation that reading romance novels…
