This book has it all, and by "all" I mean All The Cliches That Will Drive Me Nuts. Some of my recent ranting about cliches? Largely inspired by this book, I am sad to say. The story starts out so cool, and I was anticipating something truly different and amazing. In the heroine, I got some of that. In the hero and the plot, I got All Of The Cliches. All of them. I am NOT KIDDING. So please be aware, This Review Is Most Spoilery. I couldn't present the depth of amazing cliche without explaining them, so there is…

As a follow-up to the earlier discussion about where the hell the hymen is, here's a link to something truly fascinating that I read via Jane Litte and a few others on Twitter this weekend. The museum of sex has a truly amazing article on the size and shape of the clitoris. No, it is most certainly not a button. Or a nubbin. There's a lot more to it than that: The scientific name for the external “little button” or “bulb” is glans. Not to be confused with glands, glanssimply refers to a small circular mass. This little structure contains…

Time for “Good Shit vs. Shit to Avoid,” with special guest PK, who is looking for a particular kind of heroine: Oh baby, talk nerdy to me. There was a great ad for some sort of high end kitchen appliance years ago that featured a very cute lady with naughty librarian glasses and lab coat standing next to a male model in a designer suit and it said “IQ meets GQ” and it always made me smile. I love smart girl protagonists, I love quirky geniuses! I love sexy doctors/scientists/academics/etc. I am looking for books with heroines like that. Geeks,…

I received an email alerting me to this novella, and since I’m in a novellaly kind of reading mood, I grabbed it from Liquid Silver. According to Liquid Silver CEO Tina Burns, the distribution to all ports of sale hasn’t occurred yet, but it will soon. So for right now, it’s only available from the LS website. I read the excerpt on the website, and couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I bought it the following day. It’s a quick read, but a good one, of adventure, action, kickingassery, and hot attraction. Weightlessness holds a LOT of curious appeal, all…

Jill Shalvis (whose books I love like things that I love a lot) has an entry on her blog that’s full of warm fuzzy awesome: What terms of endearment do you love? And which do you love reading? Me, I’m totally up for calling Hubby “schnookums” or “thunderpants” but I doubt I’d read that in any romance novel. Second, from John, who rocks it hard in this blog entry, a cover. What do you think that erect tree in the background means? That THIS MAN is MAN ENOUGH to BREASTFEED? This link is a bit older - a week or…

Grab your lasso and your chaps, because we’re going back to college to round up some romance in academia links. First: on 23 February at 12:30 pm at Brandeis University, documentary filmmaker Laurie Kahn, who directed Tupperware!, a documentary about Tupperware and the women behind it, for PBS’ American Experience, will be talking about her new work-in-progress, “Creating the Popular Romance.” From the press release, sent to me by awesome reader Michael: The world of romance novels (who writes them? who reads them? who publishes them? why are they so popular? and what do they say about our culture?) is…

Chris sent me this jaw-dropping amazing video that’s a feast for the ears, the brain, the eyes and the imagination: “We Are All Connected” was made from sampling Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, The History Channel’s Universe series, Richard Feynman’s 1983 interviews, Neil deGrasse Tyson’s cosmic sermon, and Bill Nye’s Eyes of Nye Series.
Dude. Awesome. May you have a weekend full of wonderment.
