Book Rants: Killer Temptation

April 04, 2012 | Wednesday | 70 Comments

Every now and again, I receive exceptionally irate and often hilarious email messages from readers who are in the middle of a romance that is so WTFCRAZY they cannot keep it to themselves. And then my inbox is splodey with the awesome, and I love it. The book rants are epic. When we romance fans pick up a book that drives us bonkers with the WAT?, it can get ferociously funny. So I have a new feature for those of us who love the WTF books so very much - and there's absolutely an audience for crazysauce books. I know… read more »

What are you reading?

March 24, 2012 | Saturday | 143 Comments

So, what are you reading this weekend? I love hearing what you're reading, and hate how many books it adds to my "I want to read that!" list. A lot of you like to growl at me for being an expensive book recommender, but I promise, you guys are just as bad for me.  I will tell you what I'm reading but I feel a bit bad about it. I have an ARC of the new Nora Roberts romantic suspense, The Witness, ( A | BN | K | S ) and so far I am surprised at how much I'm enjoying… read more »

HaBO: WhatsHisName gets Shot

Vixenbib is looking for a book that's been plaguing her for awhile: I'm looking for a Harlequin/Silhouette? contemporary romance which I read at least ten years ago but the book was second-hand and could've been at least a couple of years old when I picked it up. The book is one of a series. The hero (some kind of special-ops government agent, possibly named Dan or Sam or Tom - or maybe not) spends most (if not all) of the book confined to a wheelchair, as the result of an injury sustained in an undercover special-op-gone-wrong, in the first chapter… read more »

Classic Romance - Which One First? Julie Garwood Edition

November 10, 2011 | Thursday | 64 Comments

Julie Garwood is a romance author whose books often are mentioned along with my very favorite noise, “Good Book Noise.” There are MANY of them, too! She used to write historicals, and now her focus in on romantic suspense. So if you’re looking at Garwood’s books and trying to pick one to read, it can be daunting. My favorite Garwood’s are all historicals. I love The Bride like nobody’s business, and could re-read that book any time, even when I have 2 minutes before the world ends. My copy is in two large pieces. I think it might be time… read more »

Pamela Clare, Romance, State Law, and Women’s Rights

November 09, 2011 | Wednesday | 95 Comments

I was having a completely unrelated email conversation with author Pamela Clare this past week when I learned something rather amazing that she did, and I wanted to share this with you. Here’s another answer to anyone who says that romances are all the same, and they are all meaningless fluff. Romance novels can and have had an impact on the real world, and Ms. Clare’s an example of that. A journalist by profession, she’s the author of the I-Team romantic suspense series. Last year, she wrote a law that passed in Colorado last year banning use of shackles on… read more »

What Ever Happened To: Claire King

August 10, 2011 | Wednesday | 3 Comments

Anne enquired after an author whose novels she enjoyed a great deal: Knight in a White Stetson, The Virgin Beauty, and Renegade with a Badge were written by one Claire King for the Intimate Moments line. They’re awesome, and as nearly as I can tell, she’s dropped off the face of the earth. I’d love to know if she’s writing under another name, or joined a nunnery, or what! Well, Knight in a White Stetson and Renegade with a Badge are both available on Kindle, with “White Stetson” as part of Harlequin’s new “Treasury” collection - so these must be… read more »
