RWA 2011: Food & Restaurant Guide

June 13, 2011 | Monday | 49 Comments

First: This entire guide will be available as a PDF download, in large size and wallet-sized, for your convenience. Right click and download any PDFs, por favor! Let me begin by cluing you in on the TRUTH about New Yorkers, as best described by Meg Cabot: New York isn’t like Indiana. Well, you probably knew that. But I mean, it’s REALLY not like Indiana. In the town where I’m from, you don’t walk anywhere…. In New York, you walk everywhere. Nobody has a car - or, if they do, they don’t use it, except for trips out of the city.… read more »

Can’t Stand the Heat by Louisa Edwards

September 26, 2009 | Saturday | 27 Comments

If this book were portioned out and divided into thirds, two of the thirds would be so outstanding, so fun and awesome and interesting and innovative that I could go on for awhile on the things I enjoyed about them. The remaining portion dulls the sparkle and joy of those other two, because the flaws are contained in a character and in the structure of the tension. June 27, 2008 | Friday | 40 Comments

I’m building a Google Map for RWA’s conference in San Francisco, plotting out 3 and 4 star restaurants, coffee shops (required by law for Sarah to be human), pizza joints, liquor stores, and stuff nearest to the hotel. View Larger Map Note: I do not know why Google:maps defaults to Whole Earth view, so zoom in. There’s pizza for cheap eating, coffee, and a few nicer restaurants on there. Any additional recommendations, lemme have ‘em! read more »

A Rough-Sketch Guide to Pittsburgh Eateries

April 15, 2008 | Tuesday | 15 Comments

Back when I was growing up in Pittsburgh, there were scads of lunch places but few places to dine out downtown, with the exception of the theatre area near Heinz Hall, and some places in the big hotels and up on Mount Washington. Now? There’s a ton of places. Holy crap. I need a few more days to just devote to restaurant crawling. So this is a rough sketch of a few places I know of, and that have been recommended. Also, check out the comments section of the original entry for raves about varying places in and around Pittsburgh.… read more »
