HaBO: Presents with Impoverished Red Hair

August 17, 2010 | Tuesday | 53 Comments

Sarah (not me, though my whole reading history is one big HaBO in my brain what with my inability to remember titles) asks for your help with a Harlequin Presents: I’m trying to find a Harlequin Presents, which was used when I bought it at least fifteen years ago—-since this is like trying to find a specific needle in a needle factory, I need help! The heroine ia a young girl with long, bright red hair (this is important). Impoverished of course (the girl, not the hair). She somehow bumps into a rich man who thinks she’s a wild, irresponsible… read more »

HaBO: Carrots!

March 24, 2010 | Wednesday | 50 Comments

Hannah writes: I’m looking for a book that I believe might have a rather generic title, like “Rogue” or “Rake” or something broad like that. The hero and the heroine are childhood pals, even though he’s 10 years older than her. She has (you guessed it) red hair so he cleverly nicknames her carrot then gives her golden carrot charm for her charm bracelet. Then, when he’s 18 and she’s 8 or something like that, she gets mad at him for some reason, throws the carrot charm at him and he keeps it on a gold chain around his neck… read more »

HaBO: Riverboat ahoy!

January 28, 2010 | Thursday | 14 Comments

Romantic girl is searching for one of her first romances. She writes: Unfortunately, I don’t have very many details but would love to find it again.  It was among the first romances I ever read. It is a western historical. I remember that most of it was set on a riverboat owned by the hero. The heroine might have been abducted by the hero, but not exactly sure on that point. I remember there was a painting that was important to the heroine. The hero had it in his bedchambers. Her finding the painting was a big deal, but I… read more »

Accidental Cinderella by Nancy Robards Thompson

October 06, 2009 | Tuesday | 22 Comments

Lindsay Bingham is a small town girl who finds herself in St. Michel, a small European country similar to Monaco, as a bridesmaid to her friend Sophie, who is marring the crown prince of said country. At the wedding, she meets the gaze of one hot celebrity chef, Carlos Montigo, and the attraction is immediate. As Carlos goes off to fetch champagne for them both after a short but charged conversation on the balcony, another man, a television producer, asks her to dance and drops an amazing opportunity in her lap: television show hostess for his newly-purchased cooking network. Sophie,… read more »

Sony 505 Review: A Report from Anita

September 19, 2009 | Saturday | 14 Comments

My background in ebook reading is online with my laptop which I don’t like because I can’t get comfy and also with my iPod Touch which is small but allows me to read in bed. I’m looking for something between the two so I jumped at the chance to test drive a Sony eReader. I received the Sony eReader 505. The whole family stood around and oohed and awhed. The only rule I told them was not to touch it since it didn’t belong to us. Inside the box with the eReader was a folded poster-size pictorial manual, a USB… read more »

Sony 505 Review: A Report from Theresa

September 18, 2009 | Friday | 10 Comments

There are few things I like doing better than reading. Which means it’s surprising I haven’t picked up an e-reader of any kind until the SBTB Sony e-reader test drive challenge. Up until now paper books and I have had a die-hard lovefest. In fact there are times when my husband is jealous of my books taking up so much of my time and having to share space in the house with them. Enter the e-reader. When I first opened the e-reader I didn’t bother reading the directions. I wanted to see how organically I responded to the device. I’m… read more »

When Everything is Twilight, Even Your Bosoms

September 14, 2009 | Monday | 71 Comments

Twilight, you may have noticed, is everywhere, especially now that UK and US editions of Wuthering Heights have been rereleased. This is the UK version: And this is the US version: both, obviously capitalizing on the fact that this is Bella and Edward’s favorite book in the fictional Twilight universe. Never let it be said that the iconic red on black imagery isn’t effective. Those books are gorgeous. But the redesigns got me thinking, especially with the use of other people’s names to market different books and similar marketing hijinks, that it’s time I did Simon & Schuster a favor.… read more »

Sony 505 Review: A Report from De

August 29, 2009 | Saturday | 4 Comments

I think I’m a little different than most of the other test drivers. I’ve had an eBookwise reader for 5 or 6 years, that I used to use constantly. In December 2007, I bought an EEE PC 701 4G, the first of these new fangled ‘netbooks,’ and switched most of my ereading to it. Going into this test drive, I didn’t need to be convinced of the gloriousness of ereading, I was looking for a chance to convince others. My initial impressions: The quick start guide is a mess. Also, it’s not really useful. Or quick. It is a starting… read more »

June 02, 2009 | Tuesday | 1 Comments

After a weekend of commenting fun, it’s time to pick two winners of the Big Bag of Harlequin Swag. And yes, I totally stand corrected, that the gentleman in the red serge is NOT a mountie. My bad. I don’t know how the giant furry hat didn’t tip me off. I was distracted by the twinkling orbs of gas mask man, I suppose! So here are the random integers: Which means the winners are Christine McKay and Lil’ Deviant!! .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with your mailing info, and I and the Post Office shall do the dance as old as time… read more »

Lady Jane’s Salon: Video Footage

March 03, 2009 | Tuesday | 3 Comments

I have three videos from last night’s Lady Jane’s Salon, starting with Lauren Willig reading from The Temptation of the Night Jasmine. Note: sound quality is not the most majestic thing in the world. I found it best to lower the volume on the YouTube player, but then adjust the tone and volume of my computer speakers. Sorry for the quality. read more »

ARRC Bushfire Silent Auction: Donations Requested

February 16, 2009 | Monday | 2 Comments

I received an email from a very sleep-deprived Juleigh, who alerted me that she needed more coffee (I hear you) and that a silent auction has been created for this coming weekend’s Australian Romance Readers Convention. Aside from piles of signed books, critiques, and other clever prizes—one lucky winner will go see Chris Isaak in concert in Melbourne, Australia, with author Alison Stuart. The silent auction was organized by Stephanie Laurens and the conference Organising Committee in the last few days following the Victoria Bushfires that have killed over 200 people. 100% of everything raised from the silent auctions is… read more »

The Honeymoon is Over

February 09, 2009 | Monday | 50 Comments

A nice person over on my Twitter feed asked my why I call my Kindle “Sir Kindle the Fusspot.” Well, the short answer is, Sir Kindle is very fussy and requires some delicate care in file transfer and management. The longer answer is, I’m embarrassed to say, the honeymoon of me and Sir Kindle is over, and I’ve recognized some serious flaws both in the unit itself, and in the way Amazon is electing to do business as a purveyor of ebooks and ebook readers. First, the Kindle itself: I like the unit, I’m used to holding it in a… read more »
