Hello Ireland!

October 07, 2011 | Friday | 16 Comments

Tomorrow at 2:30 pm Ireland time (I THINK - it’s 9:30 my time on the east coast if it helps you any. Have I mentioned time zones make me dizzy?)  I’ll be on Newstalk 106-108fm talking about Everything I Know About Love, I Learned from Romance Novels. YOU GUYS. I bought a new phone for this one. One that isn’t cordless, doesn’t hum or drop out at odd moments (like when the wind blows) and is plain and boring and plugs into the wall. It was all of $7, or, if you’re in Ireland, 5.25 Euro. The problem is, the… read more »

On the Air and On TV

October 04, 2011 | Tuesday | 10 Comments

Tonight! 7:31 PM to 7:49 PM CT/ 8:31 PM to 8:49 PM ET I will be on Dresser After Dark talking about EIKAL. For added hilarity, please know that this is just past bedtime in my house, so I’ll be hiding in the bathroom, avoiding the dogs, any nagging cats, and of course, bedtime shenanigans. AND THEN… Monday 10 October on the OWN Network, I’ll be appearing live (YES LIVE!) on The Gayle King Show. The Gayle King Show can be heard on XM 111/SIRIUS 204 between 9 and 11am, or at 10 am EST on @Oprah’s Network, OWN. If… read more »

HaBO-Bration: Douchebag-ish DJ and an Angel

April 16, 2011 | Saturday | 8 Comments

Randall is looking for this book: I’m having a really hard time finding this book…I know it came out in the past 5 or 6 years. It is a contemporary novel in which a radio DJ is kind of Howard Stern-ish. He gets knocked into a coma and meets an angel that tells him he has to do a good deed in order to live. He’s assigned to a woman who he falls in love with. Don’t remember much about her. I remember at the end he’s back on the radio and she’s drawn to his voice and goes to… read more »

Sunday on 744 ABC Melbourne

July 23, 2010 | Friday | 15 Comments

Heads up Melbourne, and Aussies with a web connection: I’ll be on 744 ABC Melbourne radio on Sunday. It’ll still be Saturday here, but I believe 8:30 pm EDT is 11:30 am in Melbourne the following day, right? Either way, 11:30 am in Oz is when you’ll likely hear me talking to Alan Brough about erotic fiction and erotic fan fiction. I believe the broadcast is streamed online at the ABC Melbourne website, so you should be able to listen in, even if you’re not in Melbourne. Got recommendations of your favorite, particularly erotic fan fic retellings? Which pairing rocks… read more »

Untethered: The Wrap Up and Drinking Game

June 21, 2010 | Monday | 35 Comments

Thursday 17 June I attended The Big Money’s “Untethered” conference, all about publishing in the tablet era (0_o). As predicted, it was high in unintentional comedy, with some sessions that I hope are made available online for their unparalleled awesomeness. Be warned: this entry is HELLA LONG but the sections about NPR (awesome) and the device panel where folks were dismissive of the consumer who asked a question about ebook pricing (me) are probably the juicy parts if you want to skip ahead. Don Graham, CEO of Washington Post, began the sessions by speaking from the perspective of a reader… read more »

The part of Robert Lovelace is read by Richard Armitage - which will send many hears a-fluttering. It’ll only be available until 21 March, so listen and enjoy while you can! read more »

Lord of the Romance Seduction, and Also Scoundrels

May 20, 2009 | Wednesday | 53 Comments

Back in March, Candy and I were interviewed on NPR’s All Things Considered, and oh, what a glorious thing. “Magic Hoo Hoo” and “heteronormativity” were said within moments of each other - on NPR? Win. The producer of the show that day, a marvelously savvy woman named Petra, is a romance fan, but alas, the host, Rebecca Roberts had never read a romance novel, and wasn’t sure what to think of them - aside from all the negative stereotypical things one usually hears about romances. When Candy and I recommended a few during the course of the interview, we weren’t… read more »

Australian Radio Didn’t Know What Hit It

May 14, 2009 | Thursday | 21 Comments

Back on 3 May, or 2 May if you were me or Candy, we were on the radio with a hilarious dude named Alan Brough in Melbourne, Australia. It was epic fun. If you missed it, ABC Melbourne was kind enough to get the mp3 online so if you’d like to listen, have at it. It’s too early for me to listen right now - I’d wake everybody up. read more »

Sarah and Candy on ABC Melbourne Sunday Morning

May 01, 2009 | Friday | 23 Comments

Sunday morning in Melbourne, Australia, Candy and I will be on the air with Alan Brough on 774 ABC Melbourne. I think we’re on around 11:30 AM there as part of the arts/books program, whereas it’ll be 9:30 Saturday night here, and like, a week ago last Tuesday in Oregon or something. Working out the time zone differences nearly did me in. It looks like there may be ways to listen in online, if you’re not in the Melbourne area. Seems Alan is way into the Bosoms, and wants to talk to us about romance novels. And since I’m a… read more »

Smart Bitches and Heaving Bosoms on NPR

April 10, 2009 | Friday | 17 Comments

Heads up! Our interview with NPR’s All Things Considered will air tomorrow, Saturday 11 April. Local airtimes vary but you can find your local NPR station and check their schedule as to when it’ll air. The interview was over 30 minutes long but I know we’re being edited down to about five or six minutes. I hope the good parts air but who knows? I do know that the sound technician with me in Connecticut was laughing, and the sound engineer with Candy out in Oregon gave up his plans to read a book while we taped and listened in… read more »

A Brief List

April 09, 2009 | Thursday | 6 Comments

I’m back in the States, full of the bread of oppression and taking a breather between Seder I: Yum! and Seder II: Electric Bugaloo, Still Yum! I don’t have a whole mess of time on the computer, but here’s a brief list: Item the first: Candy and I are going to be heading to radio studios in our respective locales (me in Connecticut, and Candy in Portland) to tape NPR’s All Things Considered Weekend Edition. I am told that it’ll air Sunday 12 April Saturday 11 April, so tune in or head over to their podcast to hear the rare… read more »

Missed Opportunity

December 31, 2008 | Wednesday | 12 Comments

Author Leslie Kelly wrote me with a bummer of a story: I just found out (too little too late!) that on Christmas night, Sirius XM radio had a 4 hour read-aloud of a Christmas story I did for eHarlequin last year! (This on top of finding out that the thing was offered as a free audio book from audible.com for the past month!) Anyway, I had no idea, would have absolutely loved to listen, and was just wondering if anybody out there in romance land actually heard any of it. Is there any teeny-tiny way you could ask on SBTB?… read more »

What a Scoundrel Wants: Giveaway Winners!

December 04, 2008 | Thursday | 8 Comments

Behold, the winners, after careful consideration, much giggling, and a great deal of snorting, of What a Scoundrel Wants giveaway”>the What a Scoundrel Wants giveaway. Well done with the poetry, y’all. Carrie Lofty and I had a nearly identical list of favorites. The winners are: Sarah F’s “Robin! Robin! Burning bright.” Because I’ve said at least three times, with varying degrees of volume and inflection, “What the hand dare seize the cock!” Tina C’s “A Really Bad Poem.” Because you had me and my abdominal muscles at “Fad dad glad mad schmad.  Oh, hell, schmad isn’t even a word!” It… read more »

Perusing the RWR

November 12, 2008 | Wednesday | 9 Comments

The new design for the Romance Writer’s Report, official publication of the RWA, is pretty freaking sweet. I’ve taken to calling the issues by the stock image used on the cover (which is usually overlaid with text from a female writer of romance literature, like Austen, or, in the case of this month’s issue, Bronte) so the following commentary is from the Fishnets Issue. There’s two articles of note that I wanted to give a hearty ‘WOO HOO!’ about. First, Carrie Lofty penned a rather lovely article entitled “The Trials and Triumphs of Unusual Historicals,” and aside form the general… read more »

Say All Seven? Sure, Why Not.

June 23, 2008 | Monday | 24 Comments

As I learned recently, you, or I, can say “bitch” on the radio and the FCC won’t come after you. But there are, as many fans of comedy know, seven words you can’t say. We Bitches are big fans of words you can’t say. From the mellifluous syllables of “cuntmonkey” to new and enjoyable derivatives of “shit” and “fuck,” we Bitches, we like the dirty language. I mean, come on. Our site title in and of itself is all about undermining the dominant assumptions about individual members of our lexicon. We love words, and we really, really love bad words.… read more »
