Tools of Change 2011

February 18, 2011 | Friday | 30 Comments

The highlights of the first day of ToC included Margaret Atwood, Indie booksellers speaking confidently and knowledgeably about building community, and two days of hot lunch. I love hot lunches like you have no idea. The opening keynotes of ToC were rather awesome, mostly. First was Theodore Gray, who discussed the creation of his periodic table table, and the book and then the iPad app that were inspired by his strange collection. The ipad app is jaw dropping - then comes the Outer Space one, and I about leapt off my chair to go home and get my iPad so… read more »

Ebook Survey Ahoy

February 04, 2010 | Thursday | 60 Comments

Jane from DearAuthor, Angie James from Carina, and I are on a panel at the O’Reilly Tools of Change in Publishing conference about what readers want, and I’m hoping that you have a spare 10 minutes or so to complete a survey about your reading habits, your buying habits, and, if you’re a digital reader, some of your pet peeves about that subject. The survey is online, is absolutely confidential (we ask you about piracy, and not the sexy puffy shirt kind, either) BUT if you complete it, you’re entered to win a drawing for $250 towards the ebook reader… read more »

Tools of Change in Publishing

January 18, 2010 | Monday | 70 Comments

Smart Bitches Trashy Books LLC is a media partner for the 2010 O’Reilly Tools of Change Conference (and if you’d like a discount off registration, click that ad over yonder and use the code toc10sb for 15% off the cost), and I’m preparing for two presentations at the 2010 conference. Nervous? You bet your sweet bippy. Why? In both cases, I’m talking about digital books and digital reading, and while these are subjects that I’ve learned a tremendous amount about, I remain convinced that those who drive the digital reading and digital publishing industries are not always listening to the… read more »
