This review was written by Phyllis Laatsch. This novella was nominated in the "Best Romance Novella" category. The summary: When law secretary Nell Rose is snowbound with a handsome stranger, keeping her New Year's Resolution becomes nearly impossible. Why swear off men when a romantic weekend with a reclusive writer seems to be the ideal way to ring in the new year? And here is Phyllis' review: A legal secretary gets stuck in a ditch in a snowstorm on New Year's Eve, just as she's making resolutions to avoid men, go back to school, etc. She trudges up to an isolated…

I have a lot to say about this novella, so let's get the plot summary part done - which is not easy as a lot happens in a short space. Serena Barton was fired from her position as a governess because she was raped by the duke of Clermont, but because she didn't fight back or shout when it happened, she holds herself partially responsible. Serena is determined to be heard and seen now that she's pregnant, and decides for her own sake and the sake of the child she's now carrying, she will sit outside the duke's home and humiliate…

Nik sent this request in, and I am betting someone remembers this one, although I have never heard of a Regency hero whose hangup was that he was losing his hair. I’m looking for an anthology that contained a story I really loved. I’m 99% sure the anthology was all Regency stories, and all the stories may have all taken place at the same house party (or not). So, in this story, the hero and heroine meet at a house party. She’s the daughter of a vicar or minor gentleman, and is totally a daddy’s girl. At one point, she…

Ahem. Squee commences… NOW. OMG OMG THIS IS AWESOME. GO BUY IT. What, that isn’t enough for you? Fine. I have to come clean ad admit I have not read “The Iron Duke.” I respect the opinions of those who have loved it every which way enough to recommend it to people who I know will love it (and they have). I know that it is likely something I will enjoy when I do read it. But my brain is overloaded at present and has been for awhile, and I know it is exactly the wrong time to introduce said…

This novella was submitted to me by the author, and based on her description, ” about a girl who decides to masquerade as her twin in order to get the attention of the guy she’s secretly in love with” I decided to give it a try. Viola Gardener is the quiet twin, and has a Secret Thang for a Hot Earl who has danced with her once. She decides, as the author stated, to attend the masquerade ball her family is hosting and pretend to be her twin, Olivia, who is much more socially vivacious and popular. She captures Hot…

This RITA® Reader Challenge review was written by Shari. This story is found in the That Christmas Feeling anthology, and is nominated in the Novella category. Plot Summary: A woman seeking refuge in a strange town during a snowstorm is taken in by a man who helps her discover that home is where the love is. Shari didn’t think the plot summary really captured the book, so she included her own summary: “Ken is a super-hot, fairly young retired NFL player. Cierra’s a spunky 25-year-old mail order bride from Guatemala who attempted to sacrifice herself to keep her and her…

Cleo reviewed this novella for the RITA® Reader Challenge, and despite a rough start ended up enjoying it. First, ye plot summary: Virginia Kantra continues the haunting tales of the Children of the Sea in her story of a wounded soldier rescued by an enigmatic young woman. And now, Cleo’s review: In chapter one, Jack and Morwenna meet and fall into bed immediately, with little conversation or foreplay. It’s initially from Jack’s POV and though it’s written in 3rd person, it reminds me of a regency era letter to Penthouse - “Imagine my surprise when a beautiful woman invited me…

Dust off those digital reading devices, because it’s Sizzling Book Club pick time, and I’ve picked a digital novella for your reading pleasure. This month’s pick is, I kid you not, a steampunk erotic paranormal wild west romance novella: Wilder’s Mate by Moira Rogers. I will have to re-read to see if there’s any mention of Almack’s in there because if it were also somehow Regency it would be INSANE. But I don’t think so. Unless, of course, one of the bordellos in the book is named Almack’s. I’ll have to ask the authors. If you’ve been curious about steampunk…
