: Nalini Singh

Surprise, surprise, Nalini Singh was in our hotel room, so we tied her to a chair and interviewed her. She's live, not on Skype, and it's a really fun and casual conversation because we didn't plan to do this. We had the microphone and a half hour to chat. We did attempt to get real answers out of her, and were totally unsuccessful, despite threats and stares of doom. You'll hear about how Nalini approaches her writing and her series, and we talk about heroines, reality television, reading romance, and Gwen Stefani, too. Here are some of the books, foods,…

The DABWAHA Final Four voting is on now!
From midnight to noon CDT, Courtney Milan's novella Unlocked is facing down Karen Marie Moning's Shadowfever. As of right this moment, it is terribly close. Like, every time I reload the page the tally changes - so this vote totally matters. Check your bracket, drive to various WiFI spots, and use your cell phone, folks. Every last vote will matter.
Then, at noon CDT, Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh wil face Julie James' A Lot Like Love. That race will also be close - so your vote counts today! Good luck and keep your brackets strong!

As I mentioned earlier, my recent email exchange with Robinjn following her re-examination of LaVyrle Spencer’s Years got me thinking generally about age differences in romance, and how reactions can vary depending on sub-genre, character, and conflict. In historical romances, the age difference is often expected, or at the least not worth noticing as a potential conflict. In many historicals, the women are younger and possibly virginal, and likely looking or staunchly not looking for a husband (except for that steaming attraction to that guy) (and maybe at some point she wears a pelisse or some boy’s trousers) (or both).…

This time tomorrow I’ll be figuring out the train schedules to head into Manhattan to do a live Q&A with Nalini Singh! How cool is it that Nalini Singh is going on a World Tour to promote Kiss of Snow? I know, supremely cool. I still say I need an ad with urgent-sounding voiceover, wouldn’t it? NALINI SINGH WORLD TOUR! COMING TO NEW YORK ONE NIGHT ONLY! WITH POWER POWER POWER! OK, I’ll stop shouting now. I will be interviewing Nalini Singh at on-stage at the 86th Street Barnes & Noble (Bet. 3rd and Lex) on June 2nd at 7…

Violet has a dilemma, and she needs your help. *** I have a problem that I hope the Bitchery can help me with. (Perhaps some of you have the self-same problem?) I call it the “What to read? What to read? The May 31st dilemma.” May 31st is coming, which ordinarily wouldn’t mean much. Just another day. But it’s a Tuesday this year, which means it’s a book release day. Again, ordinarily it mightn’t mean much. Maybe something interesting is being released, maybe something not. But this year, I have a problem. Two books that I really, really, really want…

Two interview events, one now and one coming soon! First, as I mentioned last week, this evening at 6:30pm, I’m interviewing Gena Showalter at the Apple store in Soho, New York City (103 Prince Street). The interview will be about 40 minutes with time for Q&A, and will be taped for a podcast to be released later. Also: Tuesday, 24 May at 10:30am in the Sourcebooks Booth, #4356, I will be signing advance reader copies of Everything I Know About Love, I Learned From Romance Novels. After that, I’ll be haunting the romance publisher booths. One year at BEA I…

About three-plus years ago, author Colleen Gleason emailed me to ask what folks meant by “dark romance.” I came across her question a few days ago while digging through my files (a text document called ‘Write about this stuff’ dated 2007 is hard to pass up, yo) and found that a combination of pondering, Twitter, wikipedia, and everyone else’s wisdom makes for a good exploration of what it means to write “dark romance.” So today’s column at Kirkus, The Dish Behind Dark Romance, explores the topic, because interestingly enough, it’s often easier to give examples of what constitutes ‘dark’ in…

Tis the season - it’s Valentine’s day, when media’s attention turns to romance authors for the scoop on all things Valentiney (or just tiny). Romance authors and the day of chocolate, flowers, and romance (and more chocolate) seem to go hand in hand this time of year. So here’s a brief round up of the good and the WTF. From the WTF: Oh, Canada. The CBC rounds up the most ‘romantic’ cities in the Great White North by analyzing which cities buy more romance novels, sex and relationship books - and CD’s by Michael Buble - on Amazon.ca. The winner?…

Rather than do a recap of 2010, which would probably break my brain because I’ve done a lot of high-impact computer work this week (no, really, not even kidding) and because I can’t remember what I was wearing yesterday, let alone remember what I was reading eight months ago, I wanted to look back on the authors I discovered this year that rocked my world. These aren’t debut authors, not all of them, anyway. I don’t actually think being a debut author causes any more of a ripple in my consciousness than any other author or book that catches my…

“Love, he thought as he held her to his heart, was an agony beyond compare.” -Raphael Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh There are two series I follow and cannot get enough of that focus on one couple in subsequent books. Rather than having related protagonists in each book, these series follow the same protagonists. Many of you are huge fans of J.D. Robb’s in Death series, which follwos Eve and Roarke. My two are Julia Spencer-Fleming’s Miller’s Kill series, which features Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne, and Nalini Singh’s Archangel series, with Raphael and Elena. While thinking about my…
