Digital Reader Review Week: The Sony Touch PRS-650

October 12, 2010 | Tuesday | 48 Comments

I think of the three Sony readers with the updated touch screens as the Lexus, the Mercedes, and the Hummer. The Lexus, or the Sony Pocket, is slender, trim, comes in pink and is luscious. The Hummer is the Daily and my gosh golly it’s huge. Built like a Zagat’s guide on steroids, with wireless and a touch screen interface and did I mention it’s huge? It’s like a reading sky scraper. The middle one, the Touch, I think of as the Mercedes. And I want to be clear here, the high-end car analogy, which I will absolutely beat into… read more »

Urban Fantasy Hits You At the Belt

June 30, 2010 | Wednesday | 70 Comments

Alert reader Robin N. sent me the following collection of images, asking, “I know you talk about the butt side vs the front side on covers, and the dismembered corpse. What I want to know is, what is it with this belt? Why do I see this belt on practically every UF book?” Belt? There’s an urban fantasy belt? Oh yes, yes there is. read more »

Bejazzled and Beefy Winners!

March 19, 2010 | Friday | 9 Comments

Oh, dear, oh, dear, I’m late too announce the winner of the Bejazzled and Beswimsuited title contest. So, without sparkly ado, here are the honorable mentions: Megs for Crotching Sparkle, Not-So-Hidden Wang. Cara McKenna’s  The German Sausage Merchant’s Shimmering Hairless Bride. The Romantic Suspense genre could do with a influx of more titles like Andrea’s: Snatching Diamonds could have some outstanding sparkly cover imagery! Bibiophile’s two entries: The Dick and the Diamond and Mining Mons Veneris. Becky totally made me snort with Vajizzled. But the completely over-the-edge, over-the-top, jewel-worthy winner: XandraG for The Bedazzlement of Duke Peepingdong. Way to go,… read more »

Friday Videos Are Just Over the Border

March 12, 2010 | Friday | 50 Comments

Em from Germany sent me this video and it’s hilarious on its own - it’ll take awhile before you figure out what the hell is going on: I like the shirtless firefighter myself. But according to Camryn in Copenhagen,, Fleggard is a German store owned by Danes who help the Danish save buckets of money: Just across Germany’s northern-most border with Denmark you’ll find an incredible superstore called Fleggaard. There, you can buy everything you need – tubs of gummi bears, cases of wine, industrial strength dishwashing soap – at prices 30% cheaper than you’ll find in Denmark. It is… read more »

Bejazzled and Beswimsuited, with Romance Titles

March 09, 2010 | Tuesday | 90 Comments

Ahoy from the Not Safe for Work department here at Bitchery HQ. I’m not kidding about the Not Safe for Work Part. Please. Think of the children. And yourself. From Melissa Marr, we have an amazing and dare I say brilliant link to what truly happens when you become Bejazzled. Bejazzling, if you’re not familiar, is when Swarovski crystals are applied to your waxed hey-nanner-nanner. Instead of a landing strip, for example, you have a sparkly strip. Wouldn’t that… chafe, should someone engage in some action with her actual and literal glittery hoohah? But then, nestled intimately alongside Melissa’s email… read more »

Sony 700 Review: by Test Driver Linsey

September 10, 2009 | Thursday | 9 Comments

I was waiting for the bus, reading The Virgin Secretary’s Impossible Boss on my Sony 700—finally HPs and I could once again indulge in our secret love!—when the guy next to me leaned over.  “Hey, is that a Kindle?” Sadly this was not the first time I’ve been asked this question during the test drive, and it wouldn’t be the last. Oh, Sony marketing fail.  “Nope,” I explained, “it’s a Sony PRS-700 ebook reader.”  I showed him the touch screen with its iPod like icons, and I showed him the catalogue function. I even did a little demo to illustrate… read more »

Sony Reader Accessories: A Shopping List

July 31, 2009 | Friday | 15 Comments

There are a few things I’ve used with my Sony Readers that I’ve found supremely useful, and it occurred to me that this list might be of some use to other folks, too. So, behold, a List! With Illustrations! Software: Calibre. I can’t praise it enough. I have a Mac, a PC, and Hubby’s PC, and Calibre loaded on all of them. By keeping my eBooks on an accessible external drive, I can access and load books from any location, regardless of operating system, and oh, how I love it. If I get another pet, it’s going to be named… read more »

Hunting for Don Mills: Sarah Tours Harlequin

April 13, 2009 | Monday | 38 Comments

Tuesday 7 April, I flew up to Toronto to hunt for the sheikh billionaire tycoon surgeon duke cowboy, who I’m told is named Don. Don Mills. Alas, even though I searched through several different floors of Harlequin Headquarters, Don hid from me, and I didn’t capture him on film. I did, however, have a ripping good time wandering all over the offices of HQN HQ. read more »

Earthshattering

December 16, 2008 | Tuesday | 30 Comments

In one small article on the AP newswire, and one giant rumble in the world of publishing, Borders is going to order books from HarperStudio with the agreement that they will not be returned. Under the decades-old arrangement, similar to consignment shopping, bookstores order titles with little risk. If those titles don’t sell, they send them back to the publisher for full credit AND without paying shipping charges. The publisher takes the books back, then often returns them to the bookstores at a discount for bargain shoppers. [Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong in my synopsis of the… read more »

Cover Models

December 02, 2008 | Tuesday | 12 Comments

In The SB Book, we take a look at the fact that romance cover models are the opposite of the rest of the modeling world: we know many of the men’s names, but the women? Not really. Until now! Thanks to some courtroom drama ker-brou-ha-fuffle, we now know Cindy Guyer’s name. And we also know not to fuck with her, lest we want our hair pulled. Ow.  [thanks to many, many Bitchery members for the link.] read more »
