First, the brainy and still making my head spin around with the ideas: Why there is no Jewish Narnia from the brand new Jewish Review of Books. The author, Michael Weingrad, examines why there is no Jewish fantasy author on par with Tolkein and Lewis, particularly given the depth and history of Jewish mysticism. His answers and ideas are so thoughtful and interesting I am still pondering, and I had to share. If you’re a fantasy or science fiction fan, this article looks at the genres from allegorical perspectives, and draws some conclusions as to why Jewish writers number very… read more »

Lauren Collins: An Interview

July 14, 2009 | Tuesday | 27 Comments

In the 22 June issue of the New Yorker, there’s a 10 page profile of Nora Roberts by New Yorker reporter Lauren Collins. I know many people haven’t had a chance to find it and don’t want to buy access. If you go to the you can subscribe in the upper-right corner to a “Digital Edition Free Preview” which includes archive access. From there, you can find the Nora Roberts profile by Lauren Collins. When I read the profile, and realized how much research she’d done into the backlist and history of Roberts’ work, I asked if she’d be willing… read more »

High Noon: a Giveaway!

March 30, 2009 | Monday | 103 Comments

Taking a break from the DABWAHA madness, Lifetime has offered a contest for y’all to further promote the Nora Roberts Suite of films. Now, between you and me and the rest of the internet? I don’t know how these things could be better promoted from where I’m sitting. I’ve seen the ads in the Port Authority Bus Terminal, the subway stations I travel in, both uptown and downtown, and on signs on the street. And the posters are definitely eye-catching, if not for the icy color schemes than for the bizarre expressions on some of the actors’ faces. Jerry O’Connell… read more »

Massive Links for Clicking Pleasure

February 03, 2009 | Tuesday | 20 Comments

Petty larceny time! I’m stealing an hour of your life by giving you the heads up about Literature Map. Name an author, see the orbit of other authors similar to that one. Keep clicking. Look up - it’s an hour later. Heh. Orbit has a new book available for one crispy American dollar, or one folded up, soft and fuzzy American dollar, which ever you have. This month: Iain M. Banks’ Use of Weapons. (Is it me or is the use of additional vowels in names like “Iain” and “Niall” somehow intriguing?) Visit Onedollarorbit.com for details. (And coming up in… read more »

Nora Roberts’ Tribute Comes to Lifetime

December 04, 2008 | Thursday | 15 Comments

According to eOnline‘s round up of industry news, Brittany Murphy has signed on to star in Lifetime’s Nora Roberts’ Tribute next year. Murphy will play Cilla McGowan, a former child star who ends up in Virginia rehabbing her grandmother’s farmhouse. Jason Lewis will play the hero, graphic novel artist Ford Sawyer. I have to say, the squeaky voiced Murphy makes a strange casting decision in my mind’s eye movie of the book, but it remains to be seen whether Locklear or Murphy will win the “Fangirl Ire” contest in 2009.
